That should keep me going from breakfast to lunch?

  • coconut milk
  • blue berries
  • strawberries
  • peanut butter
  • chia seeds

Whether it will keep you going til lunch depends on the volume & proportions of each ingredient.

Merryoldgoat · 08/01/2023 18:42

No. Coconut milk has about 13g carbs in a cup. Peanut butter can be fine but combined with the coconut milk you’ve got too many carbs for that to be considered ‘low carb’.

Anothersoddingname · 08/01/2023 18:42

Peanut butter is calorific and the protein to calories ratio is quite poor.
how many g of chia seeds?

are you not managing to last?

Have some Greek yogurt, hemp seeds & chia seeds for breakfast & a veg smoothie with chia seeds mid morning maybe

Hermione101 · 08/01/2023 18:44

There’s not enough protein in there, you will have to consume relatively large quantities of peanut butter and chia seeds to get a decent amount of protein. Good fat sources though. I would add a scoop of whey protein powder. And swap the strawberries out for spinach.

Lbnc2021 · 08/01/2023 18:52

There’s hardly any protein in that. People need to stop saying peanut butter is a protein, it’s not, it’s a fat.

BloodAndFire · 08/01/2023 18:57

That is a high fat, high sugar, high carb recipe. And by blending into a smoothie you're getting rid of the useful fibre, and making it easier for your body to absorb all of the calories.

You'd be better off just eating an egg or two.

Absolutely - fantastic recipes on there and they even have videos for the more complicated ones.

It's unsweetened coconut milk

Which ingredients do you think are low carb/high protein?

mathanxiety · 08/01/2023 19:21

What are the ingredients of the PB?

mackthepony · 08/01/2023 19:22

Scrambled eggs with spinach and mushrooms will keep you going

MassiveSalad22 · 08/01/2023 19:22

Far healthier to just eat those things unblended. But yes berries are the lowest carb fruit.

EatYourVegetables · 08/01/2023 19:24

A large black coffee keeps me going from breakfast to lunch 😐

Janieread · 08/01/2023 19:25

Peanut butter is a good source of protein. It would be lower carb if you swapped the coconut milk for unsweetened almond milk.

Krakenes · 08/01/2023 19:28

Well there is certainly a lot of fat and calories in it so should sustain you until lunch. I wouldn’t say it was high protein and low card though.

bellac11 · 08/01/2023 19:30

Its impossible to say whether its high in calories without knowing how much of each ingredient you are using, you need to weigh it all out and break it down

DistantSkye · 08/01/2023 19:33

Peanut butter isn't a high protein food. It's a fat, and absolutely fine to eat but 1tbsp has about 4g of protein. I'm not 100% sure how much protein chia seeds have tbh.
I'm not a low carb-er but a fairly filling smoothie I have is almond milk, berries, greek yoghurt and a scoop of protein powder.

It has about 25g of protein per 100g so it's fairly high in protein.

Highhi · 08/01/2023 19:38

Yabu it’s high fat, medium carbs, minimal protein.
coconut milk, berries = mostly carbs
chia seeds, peanut butter = mostly fat

Some Greek yogurt and protein powder would add protein

bellac11 · 08/01/2023 19:38

I eat nuts for my protein intake (among other things of course)

Yes but it's about 600 calories as well, so in relative terms it's not high protein due to the small amounts it's eaten in. It's not high protein compared to whey protein or chicken breast for example.

You're unlikely to eat 100g of peanut butter though 😂😂 that's like 1/3 of a jar. I mean it's undoubtedly got some protein but I've certainly never come across anyone who advises it as a high protein food, if you look at the actual quantities you're likely to eat.

Janieread · 08/01/2023 19:54

Oh well, it's delicious!

HikingforScenery · 08/01/2023 20:33

Sounds delicious. I’ve had similar lots of times. I’d rather stay away from overly
processed stuff like protein powders and just stick to whole foods. I sometimes add nuts instead of the butter
