Eat some proper food.
That'll see you through from breakfast until lunch

AnxiousPancreas · 08/01/2023 20:43

I wouldn’t consider it high protein or low carb. Whether it’ll see you through until lunch would depend on what your body is like and is used to, as well as the quantities of each ingredient in the smoothie. If you’re looking for low carb, high protein and filling, this isn’t a good option.

Goldpanther · 08/01/2023 21:34

Scrambled eggs and veg is one of the most filling high protein low carb breakfasts out there.

However I would have 4 eggs scrambled on 2 bits of toast - carbs aren't bad!

marathonrunn · 08/01/2023 22:20

Please stop attacking me.

noworklifebalance · 08/01/2023 22:41

I don’t think anyone’s attacking. You asked a question, which was answered constructively with good advice and food ideas.

MaverickGooseGoose · 08/01/2023 22:42

No one is attacking you. It's neither of the things you asked.

Nimbostratus100 · 08/01/2023 22:43

Thats a huge hit of sugar which is going to cause a big insulin spike, so no, it isn't low carb and it wont "keep you going"

Where's the sugar

That is a high fat, high sugar, high carb recipe. And by blending into a smoothie you're getting rid of the useful fibre, and making it easier for your body to absorb all of the calories.

You'd be better off just eating an egg or two.

Are you sure? Im looking for high calorie (sugars and/or fats), medium-high protein and low fibre smoothie recipes for my ds. Would this one be suitable then?

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/01/2023 23:15

Where's the sugar

Blueberries and strawberries.

Oh FFS what's wrong with the natural sugar in blueberries and strawberries?

mathanxiety · 08/01/2023 23:27

Sugar is sugar is sugar is sugar...

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/01/2023 23:27

Nothing. But it is in fact sugar. Which was the question.

noworklifebalance · 09/01/2023 05:41

Tbf strawberries and blueberries have a low glycaemic index but much better to eat the whole rather than macerated.

Divamuffin · 09/01/2023 05:54

Sounds delicious, although not filling. The chia seeds will stop blood sugar spiking from the berries.

If you want high protein I’d suggest adding some Greek yogurt or protein powder in (will make this more calorie dense however) In addition, to really keep you going to lunch id suggest adding a banana or some oats.

if the above isn’t viable, and you’re keen for something low carb then maybe an omlette or eggs & spinach?

what is your objective here, low calorie or low carb? Then we may be able to help more :)

Nothing if you eat them whole. But by turning them into smoothie you remove fibre which makes it no different to adding sugar, that's why it's recommended to drink max 150ml of juice per day. So depending how many blueberries and strawberries that might be within this limit.

The smoothie sounds tasty but I'd rather have more than a smoothie for breakfast.

geekone · 09/01/2023 06:18

I think it’s a good start but it might not keep
you full. There isn’t enough protein.

I would recommend adding some protein powder and if possible changing the peanut butter to peanut butter powder and adding some Greek yogurt (full fat).

A really nice one would be

banana
coconut Milk
chocolate protein powder
flaxseeds
coco powder (just a little)
greek yogurt
peanut butter powder.

good luck op

Motorbike311 · 09/01/2023 06:44

This will fix it for you.

coconut milk - Swap for low fat Greek yogurt
blue berries
strawberries
peanut butter - Swap to PB2 - one tea spoon - much lower fat
chia seeds
Add 1 scoop of banana protein powder

Now it's low fat high, protein and it'll be filling.

marathonrunn · 09/01/2023 08:54

@ChildcareIsBroken you do know that's a myth right? You don't destroy fibre by blending fruits. By juicing you absolutely do but not by blending.

OP posts:
squashedalmondcroissant · 09/01/2023 09:12

You don't remove/negate/erase fibre in food by blending it into a smoothie!

EndlessRain1 · 09/01/2023 09:14

No, it's not. As others have said there won't be a lot of protein in there unless you are adding LOADS of peanut butter.

Add some protein powder and some veg to it (it is full of sugar from the fruit obvs) will keep you full for longer.

When you say coconut milk do you mean tinned coconut milk or a coconut-based milk drink such as Alpro? I'd avoid the former in a smoothie personally as it's high in saturated fat.
