That should keep me going from breakfast to lunch?

  • coconut milk
  • blue berries
  • strawberries
  • peanut butter
  • chia seeds

@ChildcareIsBroken you do know that's a myth right? You don't destroy fibre by blending fruits. By juicing you absolutely do but not by blending.

Sorry, i stand corrected.

(Leaving to make that smoothie as it sounds delicious).

Are you sure? Im looking for high calorie (sugars and/or fats), medium-high protein and low fibre smoothie recipes for my ds. Would this one be suitable then?

depends how low-fibre you need? You should take out the chia seeds and replace the coconut milk with full-fat dairy milk (unless your son is dairy intolerant).

There will still be some fibre in the strawberries and blueberries, but it is broken down in the blending process which makes it easier for the body to digest.

You could also consider adding something like vanilla ice cream?

You don't actually remove the fibre but by breaking down the fruits, rather than allowing your digestive system to do it, you make it easier to digest and thus less likely to 'keep you full' if that is what you are aiming for.

QueefQueen80s · 09/01/2023 11:36

It's not technically low carb as in strict keto where people eat eggs cheese meat etc. barely any fruit.

But I class my diet as low carb and would have a smoothie like that.. with unsweetened coconut milk it's very healthy.. I eat loads of fruit etc. just don't eat bread, pasta, rice, potato and junk.

Janieread · 09/01/2023 11:53

Isn't protein powder particularly high in carbs though?

No, you can get protein powders with zero carbs.

Fraine · 09/01/2023 12:07

How much peanut butter are you using?

Almond butter or cashew butter would be better as peanuts are high carb.

How many blueberries and strawberries? General allowance is a small handful.

On the whole, it doesn't sound very low carb.

You'd be better off with a bowl of Greek 10% yoghurt with 5-6 berries and 5 almonds/cashews.

Why ask a question if you're then going to argue with everyone giving you answers 🙄

Dairy milk is high in carb. Unsweetened coconut milk is lower.

I know that. I was responding to a poster who wants a high sugar high fat recipe for her son
I quoted her post in mine.

Yes and thank you @BloodAndFire Have just got back from the supermarket with whole milk, ice cream and blueberries all set to go. 🙂

@marathonrunn people are being a little short because you're in AIBU. AIBU isn't a lovely place in the main. And your question isn;t one for this topic.

There are lots of topics you could try. Exercise, Low Carb etc. They will be less brusque. However, MN is fairly robust. I needed to grow a thicker skin to post.

Stop attacking me

I don't think you understand what attack means.

This thread is bonkers.

I have this smoothie

2 tablespoons of Kefi passion fruit yoghurt
small handful of frozen mango
big handful of spinach
big handful of kale
tap of cayenne pepper
fresh ginger
fresh tumeric
splash of apple juice
splash of fizzy water
small scoop of protien powder

AutumnScream · 09/01/2023 15:43

Sounds yummy but not very filling to last breakfast to lunch on its own.

User963 · 09/01/2023 15:47

Fat is actually good though if you don't want to spike your blood sugar and will keep you full for longer. I wouldn't try to replace peanut butter with something with less fat. However, as others have said blended smoothies remove all the fibre so you will spike your blood sugar more than if you ate them all unblended.

PlinkPlonkFizz · 09/01/2023 19:13

ChildcareIsBroken · 09/01/2023 06:10

Nothing if you eat them whole. But by turning them into smoothie you remove fibre which makes it no different to adding sugar, that's why it's recommended to drink max 150ml of juice per day. So depending how many blueberries and strawberries that might be within this limit.

The smoothie sounds tasty but I'd rather have more than a smoothie for breakfast.

That sounds like Slimming World nonsense!

A large black coffee keeps me going from breakfast to lunch 😐

Cool story

scottishnames · 09/01/2023 21:50

Just to everyone saying 'eat more protein': we all need some, but really not a lot. For an adult approx 50-60g per day; elite athletes and older people may need more. Too much can be unhealthy.

Scrambled eggs and veg is one of the most filling high protein low carb breakfasts out there.

However I would have 4 eggs scrambled on 2 bits of toast - carbs aren't bad!

really? When was the last time you found eggs for sale in UK?
