For a five guys? I'm really craving a five guys, said to my daughter we could go tomorrow night for dinner but she thinks driving 30 miles just for a five guys is ridiculous. I don't 😂. AIBU?

It's my time of the month and I also plan on starting healthy eating on Monday so I feel I'm having lots of unhealthy cravings the past few days.

i would make a day of it

Christ. Can’t you see that it’s these sorts of decisions (I want it now!!) that are fuelling the climate crisis?
fuel clearly needs to double in price.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/01/2023 07:26

This has prompted me to google map Five Guys ….. 23 within 15 miles 😳🤣

Oakbeam · 06/01/2023 07:37

fuel clearly needs to double in price.

But only for fast food addicts.

I looked it up, it's on the Castlepoint estate. About 40 miles for me, but we do go to Castlepoint occasionally as it's the only M&S we can get to big enough to stock DHs weird suit size. Maybe we'll sample this exotic delight next time 🤔

Wagamama's, on the other hand, is only 15 miles away, which is positively local.

I had no idea there was one in Castlepoint! How exciting

Get it delivered?

Nobody's going to deliver fast food 30 miles away

If I want a burger you can double the price but I'm still going.

No single choice is feuling the climate crisis

the total miles you drive a year does matter
I seem to recall 5000 miles a year being seen as a useful target

Bytrgrewd · 06/01/2023 09:17

My nearest is over two hours drive away! 30 mile round trip I would. 30 miles each way I wouldn’t.

Devoutspoken · 06/01/2023 09:21

I have lived all over uk, rural and urban, there is no way I would drive 30 miles for a flipping burger

Stay at home, make your own

LadyFlumpalot · 06/01/2023 09:46

Much like previous posters - I live in rural Somerset and regularly drive 30 miles for a Wagamamas, or to go clothes shopping. Go for it!

Devoutspoken · 06/01/2023 09:50

Ladygflumpet - that's crazy, surely there are closer noodle joints

yetanothercleverusername · 06/01/2023 09:54

TerfOnATrain · 05/01/2023 19:11

Absolutely not.

I’ve had two in my life and I was bitterly disappointed both times.

+1. Tasteless and overpriced and greasy.
I'd rather have 3 maccy ds.

However, distance wise, sounds fine if there is nothing closer.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/01/2023 09:58

London - fifteen within 2.5 miles😊
Couple of branches that I walk past frequently - they don't look that amazing, what's so fabulous about them?
I do like the rosemary fries at Honest Burgers.

Nope. There are not. We also don't have taxis, phone reception, public transport or any sort of food delivery service. It's quite nice honestly, as it means there is still something special about getting fast food or going to a restaurant.

zingally · 06/01/2023 17:29

You're an adult so you can do what you like! I wouldn't personally, but you're not hurting anyone by doing it!

MugginsOverEre · 06/01/2023 19:16

@LadyFlumpalot we do have phone reception, taxis, okayish public transport (buses are 2hrs and last is around 4 or 5pm) and only the local rubbish takeaway food delivery and we still don't have noodle bars or the like anywhere near us. Funny how people only see through their own experiences and don't believe things can be different for many others.

winningeasy · 06/01/2023 21:16

I'd drive 30m for five guys 😉

saltinesandcoffeecups · 06/01/2023 21:27

Sounds like fun outing for you and your daughter… I would do it! Not everything needs be logical.

Magenta65 · 06/01/2023 21:33

I’d do it, have done a 50m round trip to visit a doughnut shop and it’s always worth it on a lazy Saturday as a treat. I think people forget not everything is on the doorstep or on delivery. I’m 5 miles for a McDonald’s but can’t get delivery from there and we don’t live rurally just the Welsh valleys. My nearest 5 guys is a 30m round trip to a city

Talipesmum · 06/01/2023 21:36

dorindasinger · 05/01/2023 17:50

Funny our five guys is right next to a wagamamas. I tried wagamamas for the first time just before Xmas and wasn't a fan unfortunately.

Is that the one in Guildford? Go for it. It’s really nice. And you can potter round the shops when you’re there!

pd339 · 06/01/2023 21:37

I live in Devon and drive 80 miles return for a good pizza.

ChickenBurgers · 06/01/2023 21:39

Me and my friend did a 200 mile round trip to get Taco Bell on more than one occasion before they started popping up everywhere. This was pre-children for me I wouldn’t do it now I’m too tired, but I definitely don’t think YABU 😂

ILoveeCakes · 06/01/2023 21:49

I would drive 500 miles and I would drive 500 more just to taste those sweet five guys burgers smothered in sauce..............
