These aren't the same boots are they?!

OK so I was looking at brown doc martens with my Christmas money.

THERE WERE THESE ON DM WEBSITE

AND THESE ON SCHUH

Now the ones on DM website, the chunky sole and tag is black.

The ones on SCHUH have a brown sole? And a brown tag

I like them much more but they've just arrived and the sole is black.

Am I going mad or are these two different shoes and SCHUH have sent me the ones that are the same as the DM site?

They are not the same!

Pamparam · 05/01/2023 13:57

I think their website people have added a brown cast to the photos which is why the laces and tag look brown, I don't think that the tag is generally any other colour than black except in very specific situations like brand collaborations etc?

Pamparam · 05/01/2023 13:58

Which is why the yellow is an odd shade too

I have 20 pairs of DMs and have all sorts of tags. Pink. White writing. Smiley faces on it etc...

Its not unusual for them to have different coloured tags

If you look on the DM website the souls are black no doubt..

www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/sinclair-milled-nappa-leather-platform-boots/p/27338626

They will not have made a brown souled version it will be a filter

They've lost of different versions of the sinclair from cream to ones with flowers on.

They're also listed as Jungle boots on schuh. So sounds like a different version.

Ah ok well I'm wrong about the tag then, but my theory would suggest why this specific issue has happened here? Some crap photoshopping by Schuh making everything a different colour.

Stranrahh · 05/01/2023 14:11

Maybe! Very off of them to do that though if so. Why would they do that though? Every other pair I've gotten from SCHUH have never been photoshopped. Very weird.

I've emailed Dr Marten themselves to ask their opinion, see if an all brown sinclair boot does exist

I am 100% in agreement that the boots in the pictures are two different colours. There’s a brown pair and there’s a black pair. They are not the same!

notawittyname1954 · 05/01/2023 14:34

They certainly don't look the same to me.

Definitely different colour soles.

Allsnotwell · 05/01/2023 14:43

If you want then DM broken in - taken them to a show repairer and they charge under £5

OliveWah · 05/01/2023 15:02

Definitely NOT the same OP!

@Allsnotwell - I didn't know this was a thing, DD has a pair she's had for over a year and they still "eat her feet" (her words, not mine) each time she wears them. She has tried the different lacing and various different socks and sock combinations, so this might be the answer! I'll have a look and see if anywhere locally does this, thank you for the idea!

WindUpPenguin · 05/01/2023 15:05

I'm going to say that they are not different and the Schuh picture has weird lighting. I would hypothesise that the picture came out dark, so and have compensated for this by turning up the red to better represent the colour of the majority of the boot (the leather) and this in turn has made the sole and label look brown instead of black.

Good luck with your search OP! Best case scenario I am wrong and Schuh can replace them but I hope at least DM come back and tell you an all-brown boot does exist so that you can buy it.

Isn’t the sole on the ‘brown’ ones thinner, too?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/01/2023 15:12

Definitely look like two different pairs of boots to me OP, so you're not going mad! I really hope DM get back to you, their answer would surely add weight to your argument with Schuh if they insist they're not wrong.

They say burgundy which I've always thought is red!

I’ve got a few pairs of burgundy docs that are definitely brown.

How do they do that? (genuine question). I’ve tried to ‘break in’ docs a few times without wearing them and its never worked.

diddl · 05/01/2023 15:40

I think on the Schuh site-the pic with the zip next to it looks like black laces & sole.

MistyRock · 05/01/2023 15:44

If you look on the customers photos of the boots someone us wearing a, pair of the burgundy and they have black soles and black laces. Quite a few photos in. 3rd from last or thereabouts.

MistyRock · 05/01/2023 15:45

Schuh website.

But I don't think anyone disagrees they look different - quite clearly one is black and one is brown. That is not to say both pairs definitely exist though. We've all bought things that look nothing like how they were advertised.

Mirabai · 05/01/2023 15:48

When I bought my last pair of DMs (which was about 1986) - I brought brown tasselled loafers and they either came with a black sole or a brown sole.

I also had a pair of black brogue lace ups that came with a black sole or a red sole.

They’ve always done different versions of the same shoe.
