Why do I dread that 1st day back after Xmas / New Year.
Difficult to sleep. The walking in the door, turning the computer on, seeing 100 emails all being urgent..
Knowing I won't be able to catch up.
Being older..

I can't bear the thought of it. I'm returning after 2weeks in north America..

YANBU
I dread it too, Wednesday for me

TrickorTreacle · 03/01/2023 00:18

YABU.

The people who are dreading going back to work tomorrow (3rd Jan) are mostly those in 09:00-16:30 council jobs who get 33 days annual leave and out of the office by 16:30.

Some people over here work on the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

Justdontbejudgy · 03/01/2023 00:19

Move to Scotland, you get an extra day here...the dread is still real though!

Jimboscott0115 · 03/01/2023 00:19

Same here OP though wouldn't say it's dread but currently can't sleep as know what's waiting for me when I log on tomorrow. I've gradually come to realise that taking leave causes almost as much stress as it alleviates work wise!

Not sure if that's good or bad.. prolongs the inevitable. Bit like those you take a few more extra days off.
I feel its worse the longer your away.

Indeed, anymore than 10 days and I can't cope.

You could get one of those jobs if it's preferable to your current job.

Bit being tired is never good. Yet a habit I can't seem to break.

Eh? It’s also the people who work 100 hours a week in corporate law or investment banking. It’s also those who work on minimum wage and unpaid overtime even though it’s illegal in NGOs or charities to help people. It’s also huge swathes of the healthcare, policing, military and education sectors. But, you’re right, everyone should shut up because you work shifts 🙄

Spck · 03/01/2023 00:28

@TrickorTreacle stupid pointless post - trot on

AmazonianAvatar · 03/01/2023 00:30

This is why I deliberately took AL for the beginning of Jan! Back on the 12th. Minor win against my horrible, slacker colleague this year who insists on taking the period between Christmas and NY off so I have to work. The services who generate our work were mostly closed in that period so it was very quiet for me but there’ll be a nice big backlog for her to deal with for the rest of this week (mwah ha ha).

mrsfollowill · 03/01/2023 00:30

My work has been closed and reopens tomorrow - but I have the day already booked off as annual leave. Something has always gone wrong- it's a shitshow of a day and I have done it for 32 years. So I'm on leave and will go back on Wednesday! - I'm no-one important by the way and there are a lot of other people paid way more than me to sort it out.

OnlyFannys · 03/01/2023 00:30

I'm also in the unable.to sleep with back to work dread boat. The dread has been slowly creeping in for the past few days and now I feel really fed up. @

Babymamamama · 03/01/2023 00:37

I’m feeling the same way and so is DD. It took ages to get her to bed tonight after two weeks of lie ins her body clock is all off track. My one saving grace is that tomorrow is a WFH day so I’m trying to see the positives. And only six weeks till half term. Not that I’m counting or anything. My sincere thanks to anyone who worked over Christmas. I appreciate you. 🌺

I feel your pain. Even taking a random half day can be a total mare, death by email. I wish we'd use Teams more effectively....nope, I'll just stick it in an email, cc the world in or reply all (they will be first against the wall, BTW).

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 03/01/2023 00:49

😣

Starseeking · 03/01/2023 00:51

I'm starting a brand new job tomorrow, so feeling excited rather than dread...looking forward to the challenge of getting me up at 5.30am then the DCs up at 6.30am, instead of the 8.30ams and then some we've all got a little bit too used to over the past 2 weeks 😬😳😬

Dreading it too. Binge watching Netflix instead of sleeping.
