Back to work tomorrow!

Why do I dread that 1st day back after Xmas / New Year.
Difficult to sleep. The walking in the door, turning the computer on, seeing 100 emails all being urgent..
Knowing I won't be able to catch up.
Being older..

YABU.

The people who are dreading going back to work tomorrow (3rd Jan) are mostly those in 09:00-16:30 council jobs who get 33 days annual leave and out of the office by 16:30.

Some people over here work on the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

If you don’t like your job or working hours, change your career.
Just because someone has time off over the festive period doesn’t make their feelings less valid.

TrickorTreacle · 03/01/2023 02:28

@Deathbyfluffy

That's easy for you to say.

Have you tried to change your career?

Furries · 03/01/2023 02:31

Obviously, 2023 is going to proceed with no change - always obtuse and arsey responses.

bibbif · 03/01/2023 07:32

Have you tried to change your career?

I have, because I wanted better hours & to not work over Christmas etc. once I had a family. Involved a pay cut though.

indie123 · 03/01/2023 07:56

I start work in an hour.

absolutely dreading it

ive been off for 3 weeks and past week has been awful due to personal reasons. I just don’t feel up to it.

I’ve also realised just how unhappy I am with my job and been applying for another one. Just hope something comes through

Of course.

No “of course” about it, plenty of people from outside the UK on these forums. I happen to be British but I never assume.

but I did guess you are.., because of the “let’s all wallow in the shit together and say how crap life is” tone of voice of the post

It’s why I love that my job means I work with people from Singapore, Hong Kong, India, USA, Europe etc. the mindset is so good, folk are interesting and energised, they don’t think coming into work with a positive mindset makes you “irritating” or “not one of us”.

Oysterbabe · 03/01/2023 08:18

I'm considering faking my own death.

Ravageur · 03/01/2023 08:27

Good luck @Starseeking

XelaM · 03/01/2023 08:29

I'm so with you OP! Absolutely hate hate hate the end of holidays.

I work to live not the other way around like a couple og posters on this thread appear to 🤷‍♀️

bottledgrapes · 03/01/2023 08:31

It's because we've had a few days of doing as we please and now have to go back to doing as we're told.

Justdontbejudgy · 03/01/2023 00:19

Move to Scotland, you get an extra day here...the dread is still real though!

The English get a BH later in the year that Scotland doesn't get though. DP works for an English Company and gets a "schools day" off.

Having a decent mindset around work doesn’t make me “live to work”… I just don’t sit here moaning about it like every other bloody Brit I have had to work with, all holding up an arm so they can drag you to the bottom with them

Flumo · 03/01/2023 08:42

Started my weeks annual leave yesterday after working the whole of Christmas 🤷‍♀️ but I love being a nurse.

Or they are teachers working 60+ hours a week and putting up with huge pressures from leadership teams and huge amounts of abuse from the children they are attempting to teach.

Scottishgirl85 · 03/01/2023 08:46

Starting 1 year of maternity leave today - I'm actually sad not to be logging in today and catching up with my colleagues!

PeonyRose80 · 03/01/2023 09:06

Year end bonkers starts for me today, but I love it! Also a brit, who works to live…..but the craziness is about to start and whilst I find it hectic, everyone comes together.

However, I have the dreaded back to work feeling around the routine and back to school shenanigans.

healthadvice123 · 03/01/2023 10:06

@SavoirFlair but racist and stereo typical isn't it
Do you want a medal because you don't moan
Lots of people love their jobs and lots hate it , some just find the first day back hard as getting back into it
You can always scroll on by rather than act all high and mighty

Yeah the August one....weather's cold by then here anyway 😂

Some of our more nationalist local authorities/parts of the civil service also have St Andrew's day here.

Also we'll all get an extra one this year for the cornation.....

But moaning about people moaning is ok? 😂

Starseeking · 03/01/2023 14:22

Thank you @Ravageur...going well so far, and can tell I will really enjoy it as there's lots to do. Hope you get on ok today too!

2chocolateoranges · 03/01/2023 14:25

I worked in hospitality for 18years and never had that dread as we worked constantly over Christmas and New year. However I now work in early years , I love my job but still have the dread.

I don’t sleep properly, feel miserable , worry about welcoming the children in, dread that I’ve forgotten to plan properly etc..once these 3 days have been worked it will be business as usual.
