Raging sore throat

Sothatsthatthen · 01/01/2023 14:27

Anyone else had this?

Was ok yesterday morning, although a little tired. Started to become really cold in the afternoon, that shaking sort of cold where nothing will warm you up. Got into bed, slept from 4 pm until this morning, such a sore throat, hurts to swallow, aching body and hands (?) head pain but not really a headache
Is it just a cold/flu? Stuffy but not runny nose
My throat is so sore

This was how covid started for me

Blowyourowntrumpet · 01/01/2023 14:30

Do you have a high temperature? What's the AIBU?

gamerchick · 01/01/2023 14:31

Could be COVID or flu. Flu tends to put you on your arse over hours rather than colds taking a few days.

stillsmilingtoday · 01/01/2023 14:35

Sorry to hear it. Could be anything - I’ve had those symptoms with covid and what I think to be flu and a bad cold. If you can get lemsip max it might help - I find dosing up on that kind of medicine daily is the best way to get through. I can feel the stuff wearing off after a few hours of feeling somewhere nearer normal so it definitely makes a difference. Hope you feel better soon.

Blanketenvy · 01/01/2023 14:36

Thats how covid started for me this time, now been in bed for a week.

nocoolnamesleft · 01/01/2023 14:36

How my Covid started too

Axahooxa · 01/01/2023 14:36

I have this and it’s covid.

Moonlightsonatas · 01/01/2023 14:38

Urgh I’ve got the sore throat too; it’s strange it’s like a burning sensation rather than a normal sore throat. Feel like death.

Warspite · 01/01/2023 14:39

There’s a lot of it about.
It’s ruined my Christmas & New Year.
I've been poorly just as you describe for 3 about weeks.
I used Difflam gargle for my throat. Got thru an entire bottle. Resorted to salt water gargles and sniffed salt water to ease the catarrh.
Im stretched out on sofa. No energy. Washed out. Hot one minute, cold the next.
Night time cough, ergo lack of sleep, is exhausting me too.
Its taking ages to recover from.
Covid tests are negative.
Just gotta power through it.
Get well soon fellow sufferers & OP.

OnlyFannys · 01/01/2023 14:41

You can get numbing spray from supermarket/pharmacy that might help with the sore throat

MintsPi · 01/01/2023 14:47

If you can get some Ultra Chloraseptic spray. It's the best thing I've ever used for a sore throat.

MistyQuigley · 01/01/2023 14:48

I've got covid at the moment and the main symptom has been an awful sore throat (along with tiredness, chills and a bit of a cold).

PritiPatelsMaker · 01/01/2023 14:51

I've got Covid and sounds like you have too.

Newyearhappy · 01/01/2023 14:52

I had this and not Covid (two negative tests) but was just as ill (sorry OP) just getting over it now 8 days later.

Sorry OP, it’s so fun

NeverTooLateToSing · 01/01/2023 14:53

Could be either, but it's how my flu started last month. Raging sore throat, chills, blocked sinuses. Unlike other flu which hits you like a truck, this variant seems to creep up more stealthily.

Iamthewombat · 01/01/2023 14:54

I’ve got it too. Not covid. Get Difflam throat spray and keep a glass of water by your bedside for when you wake up in the night with a dry painful throat.

Daydreamer22 · 01/01/2023 14:54

Covid started like that for me. But to be honest flu is just as rife so it could actually be proper influenza (not a heavy cold type illness)

Thelnebriati · 01/01/2023 14:55

Second the numbing spray and gargling. If you wake up in the night with a dry mouth and throat try gargling with water before you have a drink.

Nat6999 · 01/01/2023 14:58

Covid started for me with a raging sore throat & toothache, I was just at the point of thinking of ringing the dentist when I did a test & it was positive.

JuneOsborne · 01/01/2023 15:00

It could be Strep, Covid, the flu or any other virus or illness doing the rounds.

Have you got paracetamol, a comfy place to be and plenty to drink? It sounds like you need some looking after. Have you taken your temperature?

Hope you feel better soon.

SchoolCountdown · 01/01/2023 15:01

Gargle with Oraldene or corsodyl mouthwash.

KangarooKenny · 01/01/2023 15:02

Strep throat ?

OngoingCrisis · 01/01/2023 15:08

In my experience, this is how (bacterial) tonsilitis started

purpledalmation · 01/01/2023 15:10

Could be strep A. Test for covid first

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 01/01/2023 15:16

Had this too

Was flu
