And hung it out.

Are we doomed (YANBU)? Or is it Superstitious claptrap (YABU)?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/01/2023 09:47

Is what superstitious claptrap?

RampantIvy · 01/01/2023 09:48

Outside? Isn't it raining where you are?

wizzywig · 01/01/2023 09:48

He's up to something

blackheartsgirl · 01/01/2023 09:48

I didn’t do any washing on New Year’s Day in 2021 and it turned out to be the shittest year of my life so far

so who knows 🤷‍♀️

marmitegirl01 · 01/01/2023 09:49

Most women on here would give their second born if their other half did this!!! 🤣

PritiPatelsMaker · 01/01/2023 09:49

Outside? The rain is coming in horizontal here!

DillDanding · 01/01/2023 09:49

I’ve only ever heard this daft superstition on MN.

Of course it’s claptrap, just like all superstitions.

BernardsBum · 01/01/2023 09:49

I've just put some out. Is this a bad thing?

AmberGer · 01/01/2023 09:50

Superstitious nonsense

My nan used to say, if you did laundry on new years day you were washing your luck away

User478 · 01/01/2023 09:52

It's unlucky for him, lucky for you! (Just to be on the safe side he'd better do the laundry for the rest of the year anyway)

AuntieStella · 01/01/2023 09:53

DDOOOOMMED!!

Of course I don't really believe it, but I still wouldn't do it

blackheartsgirl · 01/01/2023 09:53

it is apparantly an ancient myth.

id actually never heard of it until I read it on mumsnet however 🤣

Sunflowersinthewind · 01/01/2023 09:53

Is it just laundry? Are you allowed to clean? I cant remember. I know it's superstitious claptrap but who cares. I still ask every magpie how his wife is and idgaf.

BloaterW1 · 01/01/2023 09:53

YABU because I have no idea what you are on about.

This

SuffolkBargeWoman · 01/01/2023 09:54

Believe what?

ListenLinda · 01/01/2023 09:55

Superstitious claptrap, but I still aren’t doing any even though there is a full load ready to go.

it’s a reasonable excuse to be lazy today 😂

DurhamDurham · 01/01/2023 09:56

I don't really believe it makes one iota of difference to luck but I still wouldn't wash laundry on New Years Day. It's just something that absolutely must not happen while I was growing up and I've carried it on.
To be fair I never really get the urge to do laundry on New Years Day, usually relaxing in my pjs or off out on a nice walk.

BlueThursday · 01/01/2023 09:56

If I had the weather to be putting a washing out I wouldn’t waste a minute!

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2023 09:57

I have a load in the machine. Superstitious nonsense!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/01/2023 09:59

AmberGer · 01/01/2023 09:51

Thank you for explaining!

Workinghardeveryday · 01/01/2023 10:03

I have done a load every nyd for a few years now.

had a few shit years, so, think I won’t bother today and see how it goes

poefaced · 01/01/2023 10:05

I’ve put some washing on.

Looks bright outside and the forecast is no rain until 5pm, a dry day is not to be sneezed at.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/01/2023 10:07

My washing machine is on. Didn’t even hit my radar…
