Naked or not naked?

Please settle an argument between DH and I about nakedness when having a professional massage...

YABU - Of course you should be completely naked when having a professional massage, the towel covers your bits. The massage therapist has seen it all before and doesn't need clothing getting in the way and it's not like they're gonna be massaging your bits anyway

YANBU - Of course you don't get completely naked, you keep your underwear on underneath the towel. The massage therapist does not want to accidentally touch your bare bum/genitals as they work their way up your legs

I have NEVER taken my knickers off for a massage, aromatherapy, sports, whatever.

Woahtherehoney · 30/12/2022 22:14

Why would you need to take underwear off? They don’t touch that bit, keep it on!

ILoveMyCaravan · 30/12/2022 22:15

I have regular professional massages. I keep my knickers on, otherwise when he's massaging my legs he would get an eyeful and there's a huge risk his fingers could slip somewhere they shouldn't! He simply tucks the towel inside my knickers and moves them out of the way so he can massage my buttocks. Completely comfortable and not awkward at all. No way would it be possible completely naked!

ltappleby · 30/12/2022 22:16

I always go naked. You can’t get a proper massage otherwise.

Todaynotalways · 30/12/2022 22:17

They provide papwr pants where I go. I guess in case the pil gets in them.

I choose to keep my own knickers on. I'm just more comfortable that way.

Trudij123 · 30/12/2022 22:18

Bra off but pants still on here

NeverHadANickname · 30/12/2022 22:18

Always keep my knickers on as instructed.

Amazing typo.

Catoneverychair · 30/12/2022 22:41

You keep knickers on.

DuplicateUserName · 30/12/2022 22:43

I've never had a massage but surely you do whatever you're both comfortable with?

LadyLolaRuben · 30/12/2022 22:49

Knickers on. Theres no need for that area to be uncovered

cushionfiend · 30/12/2022 23:27

I've had lots of massages and it's always pants on.

NoDairyNoProblem · 30/12/2022 23:29

I usually have a massage after using spa facilities. Therapist normally says to remove robe and swimsuit and pop up on the bed covered with a towel.

Judgyjudgy · 30/12/2022 23:32

I think it would feel weird with no undies! I'd feel so vulnerable Grin I don't get why you need to take them off, but if you want to I guess it doesn't matter because that's covered. I think of you're getting the glutes massaged then you probably should or wear a g string

ViburnumFarreri · 30/12/2022 23:35

It’s totally up to you - both are fine.

Doggiky · 30/12/2022 23:37

I just asked DH this. We each get a sports massage every other week - same slot each day and time with the same therapist but we alternate which one of us gets it. I keep my pants on and assumed he did too but after seeing this, I thought I’d check. He said he keeps his jeans on!! 😳

Depends on the massage. Neck back and shoulders, all off the top half. Full body, just knickers, but I go by whatever they say. I like places that provide paper knickers. I've had massages working the upper thighs and lower back where they definitely worked on the glutes, too.

OnTheRoadAgain1 · 30/12/2022 23:50

Can I ask what a sports massage is? I've had an aromatherapy and Swedish one before, found the Swedish one a bit painful tbh! Is a sports massage putting hard pressure on like that?

VikingLady · 30/12/2022 23:51

DM used to be a masseuse. She said to ask the masseur if you aren't sure.

An aromatherapy massage is usually gentler and more relaxing, only really working the superficial layers.

A deep tissue massage is as if says, deeper and can help to relieve muscular tension and reduce stress. It can also help disintegrate knots in the muscles and improve blood circulation. Most often performed as a full-body massage.

A sports massage targets specific regions of the body in need of rehabilitation or comfort eg it focusses on the muscles most worked according to the sport the individual does. So for a swimmer focus would be back and lats. For a runner it would be hamstrings, calves and glutes. For a cyclist it would be quads.

Going by the poll MN has at least 26 people who are fairly comfortable with themselves 😂

Thank you! I have really bad posture so often have a sore back/shoulders but I found even the Swedish massage uncomfortable so not sure what to get next time. Also find parts of the aromatherapy one ticklish which I also don't like so perhaps I'm just too fussy lol!

27 if you count me who hasn't voted! Just think it's a professional thing (like going to the docs) so I'm not too concerned on how I look Smile
