To go out anyway?

LosAmigos · 29/12/2022 13:20

I was due to go out with a friend tonight for food and a few drinks but they've bailed. I was so looking forward to the night out. Would I look like a dick sat there on my own? I like people watching so I wouldn't be bored on my own.

I frequently take myself out. I love it. Go have a good time, OP! 🥰

WeAreAllLionesses · 29/12/2022 13:23

I wouldn't - because for me the evening would be about seeing and chatting to my friend - but there's nothing wrong with you going!

Changingplace · 29/12/2022 13:23

Not at all, do it, enjoy! Nobody else will take the slightest bit of notice anyway.

InFiveMins · 29/12/2022 13:24

I'd still go! Go and enjoy yourself x

DairyDiary · 29/12/2022 13:35

If you’d enjoy it then definitely go. Take a book or something though - staring at other people for your entertainment is rude and will make other people uncomfortable, it’s not really fair.

I'm not going to stare! I'm just going to observe the room ever so casually!

Thank you all for your encouragement. I think that I will also go and watch something at the cinema too.

Do it! This is the start of a romcom.

DuplicateUserName · 29/12/2022 13:51

Oh come on for goodness sake.

People watching does not mean staring 🙄

It literally does though. That’s exactly what it means.

You don't know the difference between watching and staring?

Really? 😂🤓

What’s the difference genius?

DuplicateUserName · 29/12/2022 14:19

I'm assuming you're an adult and can at least Google the difference even if you didn't learn it at school.

But eyes have this amazing feature, where they can move from left to right and up and down and everything.

Try it in front of the mirror. They don't stay in the same position if you learn to move them.

Yeah, it's only ever ok to notice other people if you are dining with a companion.
Obviously, OP's solo dining status means that any knowledge of basic social etiquette will be wiped from her brain, & she will be unable to stop herself from staring conspicuously at fellow diners.

Thank you for this valuable public service announcement.

This is very true.

OP, may I suggest you leave your binoculars behind on this occasion?

Tempyname · 29/12/2022 14:31

Go for it, a film is alone is fab, no having to dissect it after with someone, and just 2-3 hours of peace.

StarCourt · 29/12/2022 14:38

i used to do this a lot when in my 30's it got easier as time went on

Teapot, don't be naive. Binoculars are FINE if deployed under cover of a broadsheet newspaper. Rookie reminder - ensure newspaper not upside down.

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 29/12/2022 14:41

Do it! I love taking myself out for the evening, whether it be a pub, restaurant or concert.
Doesn't get to happen as much nowadays but love it when I do get the chance!
Had a great night out a couple of months ago, a few wine bars and then onto a concert

KettrickenSmiled · 29/12/2022 14:42

OK, more seriously now - Nope.
You will look like a woman who values her own company & is enjoying her leisure.

Leave the car at home, have a few festive drinks, & let the waiting staff look after you, book you a taxi etc.

It's called people watching. It won't make people weird or uncomfortable.
