To go out anyway?

LosAmigos · 29/12/2022 13:20

I was due to go out with a friend tonight for food and a few drinks but they've bailed. I was so looking forward to the night out. Would I look like a dick sat there on my own? I like people watching so I wouldn't be bored on my own.

What’s the difference genius?

For your own learning journey, I shall forbear from providing you with any clues. Utilising the compelling images below, see if you can work it out, Dairy.

You should go out for something tonight, cinema as you suggest is a good idea.

Loics · 29/12/2022 14:53

I hate when I'm out on my own and can't stop myself from staring at people, without a companion to focus on you're just not going to be able to stop yourself, OP. 😉

What is op fits herself with a blindfold, just in case the urge to stare comes upon her?

If OP can manage to resist she might have a great evening so long as the anti stare police don't catch her.

Maybe some kind of giant paper hat/mask combo would help?

It will be safe to remove it once ALL other diners have departed, & then she can use it as a handy doggy-bag.

But the waiting staff

Won't someone think of the poor waiting staff being stared at, due to the diners leaving?

Those bastards. With their minimum-wage attitude & shifty ways with bar mirrors? Don't give the shady fuckers another thought.

This thread has been the first thing to put a smile on my face all day 😅

What kind of buffoon can't tell the difference between people watching and death staring 🤣🤣 must be a very intense person if you glare at any poor soul in your line of vision!

OP definitely still go, maybe take a baseball cap so you can blend in like Joe does in the 'You' series 😂🕵🏻

I've backed out. What sort of pathetic loser goes out alone when their (only) friend lets them down yet again. Looks like another night in front of the television desperately wishing that life was different.

WTF?

If you fancy going out - you go out. Like an adult.

Not like a child who is stuck in the playground, unable to have any fun because her friend isn't around ...

Why are you allowing your friend's decision to spoil your evening, then exacerbating that by cutting off your nose to spite your face like this?

You need to try and change your mindset (easier said than done, I know!)
There's nothing wrong at all with going out by yourself, it's liberating. Love going out by myself sometimes!
You say you "desperately wish life was different " well it never will be, will it if you mope in front of the telly waiting for other people to prop you up and hold your hand . .

WeAreAllLionesses · 29/12/2022 13:23

I wouldn't - because for me the evening would be about seeing and chatting to my friend - but there's nothing wrong with you going!

This. It wouldn't be the same for me. Plus I don't like to eat alone. But I admire those that go out and do things alone.

I go out on my own, if someone has cancelled or even if I fancy going out and no one’s available and I’m sure as shit not a pathetic loser!

Go out and enjoy yourself, people watching and dinner sounds awesome!

DuplicateUserName · 29/12/2022 17:33

Nooooo!!

Honestly OP, try again tomorrow.

Go the cinema, that's a place where scores of people actively choose to go alone.

Then if you don't fancy a restaurant on your own, order a nice takeaway when you get home, to round off the night.

Small steps.

LosAmigos · 31/12/2022 21:15

Thanks so much for all your encouragement. It was just what I needed. On the day that I wrote the original post I ended up going out. I didn't feel stupid sat there alone and in fact someone came over to talk to me, which was lovely! I got rather drunk on too many glasses of wine and stumbled home. It was fun.

Last night I got myself to the theatre. I used to go to the theatre a lot on my own but lost confidence in recent years. It was a brilliant night and I retired to bed in a lovely hotel afterwards with a pizza. It was sublime.

I desperately need to get myself back on the dating scene now but that will take far much more work before I am ready. Small steps.

Excellent news OP!

So glad you enjoyed it.

limitededitionbarbie · 31/12/2022 22:01

Good for you op. I quite like sitting on my own people watching. I usually take a good book aswell though

LunaRegis · 31/12/2022 22:11

DairyDiary · 29/12/2022 13:35

If you’d enjoy it then definitely go. Take a book or something though - staring at other people for your entertainment is rude and will make other people uncomfortable, it’s not really fair.

Take a book? So they can hide behind it & keep popping up over the top of it to stare & cause discomfort 😆

People in the bar kept getting up, shaking their heads at me and leaving. Was it because I was staring so much?! 😂
