AIBU To Think Joey Maynard (Of Chalet School Fame) Was Insufferable

TheShellBeach · 28/12/2022 17:11

.............with her eleven children, infuriating husband and bizarre tendency to move house (and country) to live next door to the school her sister inexplicably started when Joey was a child.

She also managed to write (at least) two books a year, have a series of multiple pregnancies and poke her nose into the Chalet School's business on a daily basis.

How's this for a theory? Feel free to give critiques as I'm making it up as I go along, but it has occurred to me that Joey is actually the AntiChrist, having been supernaturally swapped at birth for Mrs B's real daughter. This explains the black eyes and black hair and the fainting at the Passion Play (similar to the demon yelling "IT BURNS" whilst being doused with Heiliges Wasser in the Exorcist.

Unbeknown to all, the catastrophic accidents visited on each of the school's locations are all the work of Joey the AC, but nobody suspects her because she spends her life pretending to be a delicate, God-fearing Christian.

Only 2 of her children - Margot and Michael - show signs of being the spawn of Satan, so as to put everyone off the scent by assuming they are just naughty and/or difficult.

This is very likely. Also explains why bad things happen to anyone who doesn’t worship her, her sinister fecundity (filling the world with the Spawn of Satan), how she keeps reappearing at the CS wherever it tries to hide from her etc.

I've had a rather sad ambition to get a whole collection of the GGBP editions of the CS books.

So anyway, I spent most of today bidding on eBay for them. I spent £89.01.

I am not willing to confess to last month's CS book bill on eBay

How many did you get?

I like your thinking! 😁

How many did you get?

Three of the rarest titles.

Can I ask, is there a way of transferring the dropbox transcipts to my Kindle? Or do I have to read them on lappy/PC?

Just finished reading CS in the Oberland (book, not transcript!) and was livid with oh-so-perfect angelic Peggy for the way she treated Edna - enforced makeover accompanied by the words "I can't have you walking around looking like a freak" or similar.
But then, her auntie is the Anti-Christ so I shouldn't be surprised.

Which are the rarest GGBPs?

You can download them by clicking the download menu and then share. Kindle is one of the options. If you have the kindle app on your phone/tablet, it will then transfer across

Yugi · 16/02/2023 17:59

Although it seems that kindle is changing the formats it accepts so I might need to go through and convert them all again.

Laineythenomad · 16/02/2023 18:28

Thanks Yugi, I'll give it a try.

Which are the rarest GGBPs?

I've got those ones already. I haven't made a list of the ones I haven't got yet. It might end up expensive.

I've tried to buy them as they come out but GGBP don't seem very good at telling me about new releases.

Are you subscribed to their tedious weekly email? ROFL.

By the way, my list of the rarest titles was not exhaustive. I couldn't think of all the ones I haven't got yet, which is loads of them.

Seriously, if you're interested in the health problems of the women at the vicarage, and what's being planted in their garden, sign up.
It's beyond tedious but you do find out what they're going to publish next (and how many copies Anne still has to post).

I used to love the Chalet School books! My nan used to scour charity shops for them.
My mum got rid of all of them after she had a clear out without telling me.

If anyone can send me links to PDF's or anything else I'll be eternally grateful.
About to go in for an op with 6 weeks recovery time. Anything to help the time fly past!

sueelleker · 16/02/2023 21:43

fadedpage.com have some of her books, which can be downloaded or read on-line.

You've made me count now! There's 9 I haven't got I think, but I don't know if they've all been published without checking the website.

I have got a full set of Armadas.

I've got them all in Armada, and quite a few hardbacks.
