AIBU To Think Joey Maynard (Of Chalet School Fame) Was Insufferable

.............with her eleven children, infuriating husband and bizarre tendency to move house (and country) to live next door to the school her sister inexplicably started when Joey was a child.

She also managed to write (at least) two books a year, have a series of multiple pregnancies and poke her nose into the Chalet School's business on a daily basis.

Oh!!! google tells Cologne used to be part of France up until WW2, I never knew that, I thought EBD'S Geography was at fault

I believe Google is wrong there. It was occupied by the British army post WWI until 1926, which would fit with the back story.

Multiple birth, drugged hot milk, hairstyles, ink on hands, creamy sauces and fancy pastries, getting lost in a snowstorm just outside the school fence, obscure crafts, deadly dull play or tableau, colds, pneumonia, measles, chicken pox, TB, dead parents, fatal car crash, fatal train crash, dainty flowered dormy curtains, learning to ski, bad drains, Irish brogues, slang, bad/poor girl comes good.

Have I missed anything?

I love the CS books!

Can we add doctors (lots of doctors), going to the dentist, kerrazy evening entertainments, trilingual, and matey

Just reading flight of a chalet girl (Katherine Bruce) about Elizavettas escape from belsornia. Ties in Jack being 'lost at sea/Betty Wyn being expelled and the highland twins second sight .)

It's very good but all her infills are excellent.

I think Anna is actually the heroine of the series.

Jo sprogs habitually snd has (as no woman ever) triplets and two sets of twins!!! Christ that pelvic floor I only have 4 and I dare not sneeze in public.

Anna must pray no please god no more sprogs no more!!!

I don't need to 'see it's a day for a fucking expedition and pull lettuces and make cakes at 5am as I was awake ' no no equally Rosli! She's too young for this shite. :)

I know there are lots of in-fills for the missing terms and Bettany Press published some prequels but did GGBP publish any books that would have come after prefects? I do wonder what would have happened next had EGB been able to continue.

Just read new beginnings with lens wedding and Con engaged to roger. It also includes Joe car accident.

Hated merryn Williams book though. Just spouts rubbish and hate at the characters snd utterly ridiculous.

Today in my re read the girls, Joey, miss Wilson, and miss Stewart are trapped in the charabanc in a thunderstorm. The girls seem to be in that coach for 24 hours but thankfully not one of them needs to pee!

I heard or read somewhere that women who’ve had one set of non-identical twins have an increased chance of having more non-identical twins. Something to do with natural hyper-ovulation I think.

You do occasionally see real life cases of women who’ve given birth to several sets of twins, so something like Joey’s scenario would be possible, although extremely improbable.

And of course, Joey has no need to worry about her pelvic floor, as characters in the Chalet School books are immune to ever needing a wee.

Any girl (or teacher) who can’t hold their wee in for days on end without discomfort or complaint is simply not Chalet School material 😉
