Name changed for this as my other threads are quite outing. Sorry its long!

Me and partner are away for a few days over Christmas, our next door neighbour has a spare key for our house for emergencies (we have their spare house key as well). We are not close friends just normal neighbours, They have had family visiting over Christmas/new year. On boxing day they text me and asked if some of their family could sleep in our home as more of the family had arrive unexpectedly! We said no because beds need changing and heating not on etc.(also I dont want strangers in my home)Well since then we have had text after text asking over and over again! I have also repeatedly tried to ring them but they are not picking up! The last one was very late last night (I was already in bed asleep)asking again and saying the family who they want to stay's car has broken down! I feel like packing up here and going home now as so worried they will just use my house anyway! I dont have any friends or family nearby who can check on my home. My partner has said they surely wont just use our house but I'm not sure they wont. 😥

I hope you've arrived back from your trip @Castleontheisland and you've been able to work out whether your home was stayed in without your permission or not.

I really hope that they haven't trampled all over your trust.

ReallyTryingTo · 30/12/2022 20:34

Who the hell are the 2% saying OP is being unreasonable!?
I would never ever want strangers staying in my home - especially if I was not in the house let alone not even in the area!!!
Surely they won't have the audacity to just stay. Make a comment that you've got someone going to your house. Call their bluff. Hopefully be enough to scare them into letting anyone into your house.

I would LOVE that @GCAcademic!

I just don't understand their mentality. It's like being at a party - hearing the first part of story then wandering off (perhaps to the buffet table) then returning 10 minutes later to give the person advice when you've not even bothered hearing all that they have to say.

Baffling!

secular39 · 30/12/2022 23:51

Change your lock and don't give anyone your house keys (apart from trusted friends and family) ever again.

AdobeWanKenobi · 30/12/2022 23:55

best crack out the gin and the nibbles @HauntedAbbey because I feel this party is going to be going on for some time, especially at @secular39 post is a mere 5 below your rather fitting cartoon…

HauntedAbbey · 31/12/2022 00:04

@AdobeWanKenobi I'll take any excuse to break out some snacks before dieting in January!

What's so funny about three dots??

vvvvb · 31/12/2022 00:30

Please could someone on android app tell me how to read all of the OP posts?

The 3 dots gives me BOOKMARK REPORT or QUOTE

I have followed this thread from the beginning so not relevant to this thread but would be useful to know on other threads please that I haven't read in real time iyswim

I'm on Android, I don't have the app though.
In the original post there should be a "see all OP posts" option - if you click on that it should show all OPs posts

vvvvb · 31/12/2022 01:20

Thank you for the help

I have just gone back to the beginning and it doesn't give that option on OP post

REPORT & QUOTE are the only things that appear on OP first post on 3 dots

It must be my phone

or the android app

or most likely me being dim and not clicking in the right place

I will ask MN towers HQ tomorrow

HauntedAbbey · 31/12/2022 01:26

@vvvvb AFAIK the "see all" feature is not yet available on the android app. I can't 100% confirm as I'm on iOS. However, if you access Mumsnet via the website rather than app you should find the see all feature is there.

vvvvb · 31/12/2022 01:29

Thank you so much for the information 🙂🙂🙂

Yep - but then given you didn’t add any indication that it was more than a genuine question it’s hardly surprising!!

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 31/12/2022 09:20

Yeah the android app doesn't have the read all OP option, I ended up deleting it just for this reason

That's why I don't use the app. I just use the mobile version of the website.

CrazyLadie · 29/12/2022 23:33

She said she didn't have any family or friends near by, asking a cop from the area she lives in to drive by and see if her house is safe is not wasting their time, it's part of their job

Good luck getting the police to attend that. Round here, they don't come out for actual crimes, so trespass which is a civil offence (unless criminal damage or theft involved) you would have no chance. Hmm

Abi86 · 31/12/2022 21:06

Another story without an ending. The unanswered questions… did the neighbours use the OPs house as overflow accomodation or in any other way. Has the OP spoken to the neighbour?

The story had an ending if you had read the thread.

No they didn't

rollingwiththewind · 01/01/2023 09:30

@BoganKiwi
How did it have an ending?
The OP said she needed to check everything was ok when she gets back. But didn't message on here again after that.
