Name changed for this as my other threads are quite outing. Sorry its long!

Me and partner are away for a few days over Christmas, our next door neighbour has a spare key for our house for emergencies (we have their spare house key as well). We are not close friends just normal neighbours, They have had family visiting over Christmas/new year. On boxing day they text me and asked if some of their family could sleep in our home as more of the family had arrive unexpectedly! We said no because beds need changing and heating not on etc.(also I dont want strangers in my home)Well since then we have had text after text asking over and over again! I have also repeatedly tried to ring them but they are not picking up! The last one was very late last night (I was already in bed asleep)asking again and saying the family who they want to stay's car has broken down! I feel like packing up here and going home now as so worried they will just use my house anyway! I dont have any friends or family nearby who can check on my home. My partner has said they surely wont just use our house but I'm not sure they wont. 😥

Need to go to bed but worried if I do this will be deleted or exposed as troll 🙄

I hate how mumsnet do that. I mean- let people have their fun. Does it really matter if it's just silliness?

Does this happen a lot then? People submitting entirely fictional concerns? Seems like a pretty pointless exercise!

ThePastafarian · 28/12/2022 22:28

There's a moderate chance the OP came back, saw a bunch of troll accusations and thought "sod you guys".

You must not go to bed until the update, if you do the thread will disappear and I will hold you personally responsible...

PuppyPerson · 28/12/2022 22:30

I really don't want it to be a troll, but I also really don't want it to be real - surely no one is really cheeky enough to do what we suspect the neighbours have?! 😱

I’m utterly fascinated because I cannot conceive of any way I’d manage to deal with the situation, were OP’s fears realised. Speechless doesn’t touch it: I’m sure I’d be frothingly apoplectic and turned to stone, both at once! As for progressing past such an outrage, well I’m stumped.
It’s definitely a most gawkable tale.

Haha! I’m picturing an implacable and definitely not-to-be-messed-with trio sitting on the sofa in the dark, with rifles across their knees like a deleted scene from Fargo. May the good Lord have mercy on the souls of the house-invaders.

😂😂😂

NewHopeNow · 28/12/2022 22:55

How can there not be an update on this?

Notimeforaname · 28/12/2022 20:53

Ah...and again. When will people stop with the troll hunting

When people stop giving them reason to I guess? 🤦‍♂️

The neighbours and their extended family

The people doing the same thing with their neighbours homes?

HairyMcLarie · 28/12/2022 23:11

I think everyone needs to go to bed and stop waiting for updates! We all know what happens. It's like CF parking threads. Everyone waits for a big showdown with both sides arguing their case and instead it's a damp squib.
I predict that they've gone round and nothing has happened and neighbour has politely kept away as they should!

I’m one of them. For giving a key to some arb next door and not updating the thread all evening.

I agree. Can't believe I'm still up!

Jenasaurus · 28/12/2022 23:25

I too am waiting for Ops update, from the comfort of her home having spent a nice evening with her neighbours waiting for Ops family to leave so I could go to bed

2 in 100 chance of that according to the poll. Thats 1 CF on every street Confused

If you hire a car for Monday - Friday, but the hire car company don't collect it til the following Monday, it doesn't mean you can use it over the weekend too!

so this hire car is on your property. For a weekend. But not actually your responsibility in any shape or form because the contract of your hire runs from Monday to Friday? How the heck does that work?

That's a separate issue (in that you could complain and try to invoice them for "renting" your drive space). You are no longer responsible for it (but good luck proving any damage etc happens after it went off hire) and can't drive it. I know I had to call them once when I had a hire car through work to get explicit permission to move their car off my driveway so we could park the family car there when my husband got home from work.

It could be as simple as the OP has forgotten how to sign in to MN with their new name

You don't need to sign in with a new name.

You don't need to sign in with a new name.

You just need to type the name change into the "username" box where you post.
