Why are you asking? Has someone moaned?

It wouldn't be what I'd want for Christmas dinner but I wouldn't have left you to host if you can't cook/were moving/hadn't booked anywhere.

Ragwort · 27/12/2022 16:14

If I genuinely couldn't cook then I think I'd offer a plate of cheese, deli meats, salad etc would be nicer than microwave pulled pork ... but if your guests were happy with it then there's no point worrying about it.

Years ago I had a very unusual Christmas dinner with friends of friends, it wasn't really to my taste but I ate it politely.

What do you mean though 'we can't cook' .. what do you normally eat?

Rubyupbeat · 27/12/2022 16:14

If it's what the person enjoys, then great. Food is a personal thing.

Madeyoulook · 27/12/2022 16:15

I’m not fussy but it doesn’t sound very nice.

why couldn’t someone else have hosted?

Beachsidesunset · 27/12/2022 16:15

We had roast in the tin chicken, gammon and pigs in blankets. Aunt Bessie's roast potatoes, tinned peas and carrots, ah Bisto gravy. I did peel and boil the sprouts. One week after major surgery and it was bloody lovely!

Overthebow · 27/12/2022 16:16

It’s just a bit sad with only one veg, frozen potatoes and frozen Yorkshires for Christmas. If you usually pay for everyone to go out for dinner then surely you could have got some nice fresh prepared food from M&S which would have been just as easy and so much nicer!

ColdHandsHotHead · 27/12/2022 16:16

A bit basic on the veg front, but nothing wrong with it?

eatdrinkandbemerry · 27/12/2022 16:16

It wouldn't bother me 🤷‍♀️
If it meant I was fed and someone hadn't spent hours alone in the kitchen and actually had time to socialise with their family/guests I'd be happy.

SerenaTee · 27/12/2022 16:16

My reaction would be where are the pigs in blankets? It does sound a bit rubbish for a Christmas dinner, I’d not be bothered by the frozen veg, yorkies, bistro, pudding or custard but frozen potatoes and meat means it’s essentially a ready meal.

FarFlungFlamingo · 27/12/2022 16:18

Everyone knew the menu and pulled pork was decided by everyone.

In which case it's fine. In this situation I'd offer to cook even if it wasn't my turn.

Andsoforth · 27/12/2022 16:19

I’d rather have a mediocre meal in great company than an exquisite one with mediocre company.

AnybodyAnywhere · 27/12/2022 16:19

If someone invited me to Christmas dinner I would be very grateful for what I was given, enjoy it, and genuinely thank them.
it may not be what I would choose but if someone has bought and prepared a meal for me then that’s a lovely thing to do 🎄💐

DuplicateUserName · 27/12/2022 16:19

It's not what I would choose if I was lucky enough to have a choice, but it seems like you didn't OP.

Curios as to why if there were 9 of you, someone else didn't do the booking or were the others all children?

Always4Brenner · 27/12/2022 16:19

Well I’m sorry but my Christmas dinner was made up of all things frozen pigs in blankets stuffing balls. I’m sorry I no long do the high standards but crippled with arthritis so easier for me to do veg frozen. I eat well as well plenty of vegetables back to casserole tomorrow.

Munches · 27/12/2022 16:20

That sounds fucking shit

MyBooksAndMyCats · 27/12/2022 16:20

Maybe make it your New Year's resolution to learn to cook?

I'm sorry but there's no excuse to why a grown up can't cook unless there's an disability there.

pharaohrocher · 27/12/2022 16:21

Shereturnsforonemore · 27/12/2022 16:06

So time for context.
We can't cook so when its our turn we normally pay for going out for xmas dinner.
We moved house less then two weeks ago and with all the faff we forgot to book anything for 9 people so thats why everyone had a frozen xmas dinner this year.

Everyone knew the menu and pulled pork was decided by everyone.

Hosting 9 less than a fortnight after moving house is good going in itself. You did well and I hope there were no horrible remarks about the food.

Ericaequites · 27/12/2022 16:21

Frozen veg is often cheaper and as nutritious as fresh.

Shereturnsforonemore · 27/12/2022 16:21

No one cared and everyone mentioned how nice this year was as there was no pressure to finish it all as it had zero effort.

It was our turn to host and we wanted everyone to see our new house.

It really doesn't matter whats on your plate.

Tiltedandwilted · 27/12/2022 16:22

I’d have left, not worth the effort even chewing that crap

Thank you my freezer is well stocked with veg in fact must get more sweetcorn and roast potatoes and frozen mash is a godsend as I can no long mash the spuds.

Emmamoo89 · 27/12/2022 16:23

People need to stop being so judgey. I'd eat that x

CurlyTop1980 · 27/12/2022 16:23

I usually host Xmas Dinner for about 16 people. Loads of extended family and my "cheat" is Iceland Xmas food.i get everything ready apart from the meat ( not usually turkey). So frozen veg, Yorkshire puddings, frozen potatoes. Ready desserts etc.

So your meal sounds fine to me.

Well that is great, sounds like a successful day and that you and your guests were happy. Mission accomplished.

But why are you asking us?

OldTinHat · 27/12/2022 16:24

Sounds far better than my microwave chicken dinner for one that ended up in the bin!
