Not something I'd cook myself on Christmas day. But as a guest I would gratefully receive and have likely cooked at some point in the past. Maybe the host had very little time or money and it was more for cost or convenience? Maybe whoever was ungrateful should remember many people didn't get any form of roast dinner and count their blessings?

StephanieSuperpowers · 27/12/2022 16:04

Well, I think I would be nonplussed. I don't know what microwave pulled pork is, I hate gravy and couldn't manage pudding with custard, although some like it, I know.

I can't visualise it looking too appetising.

Suzi888 · 27/12/2022 16:05

It doesn’t sound very nice in all honesty, but I would graciously accept the offering. Perhaps they can’t cook, don’t have the money or time.

It’s more than some people get.

TheChosenTwo · 27/12/2022 16:06

I’d be gutted to have to eat that any day of the year (frozen roast potatoes 😩) but especially at Christmas…
However, I’m polite enough that if that was placed in front of me I’d both eat it and be appreciative.

Also. I am a lone parent of a 3 yo awaiting diagnosis of asd, so very little time or motivation for myself. Therefore my family kindly host us mostly. Due to my child's differing needs and food aversion, it is likely to be what I would cook if I was hosting because I'd have said 3 yo hanging off me and leftovers would go to waste.

ShornTheSheeep · 27/12/2022 16:06

I wouldn't eat any of it but if the people eating it enjoyed it then meh. Doesn't effect me

Shereturnsforonemore · 27/12/2022 16:06

So time for context.
We can't cook so when its our turn we normally pay for going out for xmas dinner.
We moved house less then two weeks ago and with all the faff we forgot to book anything for 9 people so thats why everyone had a frozen xmas dinner this year.

Everyone knew the menu and pulled pork was decided by everyone.

Doesn’t sound good, why all the frozen food and microwave pulled pork is not something I ever want to eat.

Needmorelego · 27/12/2022 16:07

Don't see a problem with it.
I don't eat roasts so I wouldn't eat it anyway but as a roast dinner for people that eat roast dinners that looks fine.
My daughter loves pulled pork. Pulled pork and roasties is one of her favourites.
A bit more variety of veg maybe cos sprouts are rank.

mrsbitaly · 27/12/2022 16:07

If it was a free meal being offered then no I wouldn't think nothing of it I would be grateful. Its not something I would do personally when giving a xmas meal but everyone has their own budget

Cherryblossoms85 · 27/12/2022 16:07

Tbh given the insane effort of dinner this year, part of me finds this really appealing. Christmas eve meal from scratch, complicated jelly dessert, made mince pies myself. Iced my home made Xmas cake. For the day I made some savoury scones as snacks, then roast goose with stuffing, glazed ham, ref cabbage, roast potatoes and parsnips, extra stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, bread sauce, own gravy and carrots and sprouts for 10 people. Boxing Day another full spread of duck soup I made in advance, cheese and leftover ham. Then home made pudding and white sauce. Just me and DH because all the other adults are losing their memory and can't even lay the table. I've actually binned all the leftovers because I can't be arsed fashioning any more meals.

WildCherryBlossom · 27/12/2022 16:09

I'm reasonably competent in the kitchen but I tend to keep it simple at Christmas. I do peel and roast the potatoes but I don't do anything overly elaborate. I would rather enjoy the day. In the past I made fancy terrines or soufflé for starters etc etc. Nowadays I do cut corners - eg use instant gravy (a vegan one so everyone can have it. I'm so glad I do.

Dacadactyl · 27/12/2022 16:09

@Shereturnsforonemore well don't worry about it then! Sounds like everyone knew what they were gonna be getting. Did someone make a comment, is that why you posted?

cestlavielife · 27/12/2022 16:10

Presumably it was not frozen when you ate it
But cooked
So no issue
Who could tell ?

It's fine.

Ignore all the MN food snobs who think that anything frozen is the Devil's work.

BusySittingDown · 27/12/2022 16:10

Someone didn't want to spend Christmas Day chained to the kitchen. Fair play!

As long as there's good company and a tin of Quality Street doing the rounds then I'm not arsed. I'll eat any old crap though!

Flapjackquack · 27/12/2022 16:10

I view cooking as a life skill. I am always confused when adults say matter of factly that they can’t cook. Use a recipe, start simple and build up. Better than living off processed food all the time. No one is born knowing how to cook, you have to learn. Yes I expect to be flamed for saying this but there you go.

ZuckerwatterMaus · 27/12/2022 16:11

I had turkey , triple cooked chips and bisto . Loved it ! Ds won’t touch a roast so why force the matter ?
As for your post , I was brought up to be gracious and thankful for all hospitality and I am still
like that today . I could never be in a program like “Come Dine with Me” as I would not dream of criticising a meal cooked for me .

Feduperika · 27/12/2022 16:11

I'd eat it if that is the christmas social gathering this year, family and friends being more important than food. But if I knew in advance then I'd order in all the ingredients to cook my own christmas dinner another day.

OoooohMatron · 27/12/2022 16:11

I'm sure it was perfectly tasty OP. Its not what I would cook but if you were with your family and everyone enjoyed it then who cares. I stressed myself out this year making everything from scratch and far too many sides and as a result have decided to scale Christmas dinner back next year and buy more ready made stuff.

Snoken · 27/12/2022 16:11

Yabu

rainbowstardrops · 27/12/2022 16:12

Firstly, surely it's the company that's the important thing and secondly, why didn't someone else sort the meal out this year?!
Sounds fine!

GAH3 · 27/12/2022 16:12

Sounds like a better option than slaving away all day in the kitchen prepping a huge turkey and a million sides 🤷‍♀️

BusySittingDown · 27/12/2022 16:13

Ah sorry, just seen your explanation! I wouldn't care that it was frozen at all.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 27/12/2022 16:13

I would be fine with all the trimmings there it's the pulled pork I would struggle with ( a little)
