And it's WONDERFUL. They must have had the elves in over the last couple of days because in both the Asda and Waitrose I was in this morning had no decorations, no festive aisles full of tat, no screeching Noddy Holder on the tannoy.

Fabulous. At last back to normal.

I saw someone taking the decorations down in the window of JD Sports on Christmas Eve!

Fraine · 27/12/2022 13:23

Praise be!

Thelnebriati · 27/12/2022 13:23

Be nice if they could hold off til mid December next year.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/12/2022 13:25

The nursery my son goes to had the Xmas tree down and laying at the gate on the 23rd lol I took that as a "hoorah we are on holiday" sign. :D

SocksAndTheCity · 27/12/2022 13:25

I worked in a department store over Christmas many years ago, and the staff had to stay late on Christmas Eve to take down the decorations and put up the Sale posters, tag the Sale stock and hang it all out. I remember I didn't get home until 8pm and I was by no means the last to leave.

Needless to say, most of those working were women who will have then spent most of Christmas Day on their feet running around after others. At least back then the shops didn't open on Boxing Day.

yesthisprobablyisaboutyou · 27/12/2022 13:26

I saw mini eggs & cream eggs on Christmas Eve in Sainsbury's & Tesco. They are already moving on to the next thing.

I'm not unreasonable. I wouldn't have a problem with "festive" decorations starting 1st December.

Just not September with the start of the chocolate. The Asda by me has had a countdown to Christmas tree in the foyer since about 10th Nov - or maybe earlier as i'm sure the first time I saw it, it was showing 50 sleeps to Santa which is over 7 weeks.

Our local Asda packs it all up on Xmas Eve.

They made a big fuss a couple of years ago about being 'closed' on boxing day. Yes the shop was shut but none of the staff were allowed the day off. They all had to come in and pack up the Christmas stuff. For single time.

MyBooksAndMyCats · 27/12/2022 13:27

Yes but now the aisles are full of Easter eggs! No joke either.

Krakenwakes · 27/12/2022 13:28

It’s still Christmas - it’s only just started -so I’d expect to see Christmas stuff still up.

BashfulClam · 27/12/2022 13:28

The Easter eggs will be up now.

CharityShopChic · 27/12/2022 13:29

Didn't spot any Easter Eggs. The aisles which were wall to wall tat and decorations last week have a small section of the remaining tat they couldn't shift, along with "sale specials" like bedding.

Yes when I worked in retail all Christmas decs and signage came down Christmas Eve and Sale POS would come out. We would be there for a couple of hours after the shop shut getting ready for the sale and then in early at 6am after Christmas to finish things off before we opened.

IreneJones · 27/12/2022 13:30

Morrisons had a small Easter egg display today.

Good point.

It goes in a cycle, New Year, Valentines, Easter, summer, bank to school, Halloween, Christmas…..

shuttheblindsintheevening · 27/12/2022 13:31

They're just making room for valentines, mothers' day and Easter 😂

Coasterfan · 27/12/2022 13:31

@CharityShopChic we were in devon in the heatwave the first week of august this year and Tesco had their tubs of sweets out! Now I m an early celebrator, we had Heart Xmas playing from 1st October but tubs of Xmas sweets when we were on our summer holidays and it was over 30 degrees, just no!!

MN is the only place I come across this attitude that Christmas starts on 24th/25th December, and goes right through to 6th January.

This is not something I see reflected in my life or my friends' lives, "Christmas" is basically 1-25 December with parties, nativity plays, shopping, planning, pantomime visits etc, all culminating in Christmas Day.

By now, it's over.

DS1 stayed there until 9pm Xmas eve pricing up for Boxing Day sales and removing all the xmas tat.

Crunchymum · 27/12/2022 13:33

Valentines cards in Paperchase. Now that's depressing.

I worked in a clothes shop when I was young and we'd often be there until 10pm getting it prepped for the sale on 26th.

Same!! I worked in retail in the 80s, I hated taking the Xmas displays down on Christmas Eve and puting up Sale posters. At least I got 2 days off together, some staff don't even get that now. And yes, it's mostly women running after other people, on crap wages as well. That's why I'm not in retail now. And the bad tempered, rude customers!

Luckydip1 · 27/12/2022 13:54

I think it's a shame.

At least in the US they wait until after Thanksgiving, so end of November. It still feels like eternity. I expect to see valentine's stuff the next time I go to the shops though🙄

Trudij123 · 27/12/2022 13:59

I bought my best friend a crème egg for Christmas 😁
