To think this is selfish?

Next door neighbours have installed a hot tub directly beneath my bedroom window. They are incredibly noisy at the best of times so this is pure hell.
At 12AM this morning, they filled it up and were having a loud conversation, staying in it for over an hour. This morning, back in it and shouting loudly again. Aibu to be losing the plot and to be angry that my day off is being ruined? Not to mention that I am highly irritable as had just a few hours sleep due to it all.

Contact your local asbo team for advice or put up CCTV that'll make them move the hot tub

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 27/12/2022 12:49

YANBU. Guessing if they have form for this, there's no point in speaking to them about it?

SunlightInParis · 27/12/2022 12:52

I don't think there are laws saying they can't install it close to a neighbours window but honestly it is pure hell.
If its like this now then can only imagine how awful spring and summer will be. 😔

Get a window box and water it using a hosepipe when they are in the tub ... oops, sorry, didn't mean to spray you with freezing cold water 😉

SunlightInParis · 27/12/2022 13:02

I think I have no option but to move house. They won't listen and are so selfish. All about them and their enjoyment. They are massively self absorbed and the gobs on them have to be heard to be believed.

You might find they seriously moderate their use of it when their next electricity bills come in.

Tilllly · 27/12/2022 13:19

I'd get a blink camera or similar

They might move it if they know you're capturing them

Frazzledmummy123 · 27/12/2022 13:19

Noisy, selfish and inconsiderate neighbours are thee worst 😖

Even although you are getting the worst of it, are there other neighbours hearing it too? Sound travels and I am sure others will be hearing it and being kept awake. Surely someone will say something.

Could you maybe type a note out asking them to be more considerate of the time of night they use the hot tub sign it off from 'a neighbour' and post it?

NoelleSnowman · 27/12/2022 13:22

Given that it’s the festive season and it was likely a Christmas present I would leave it for now and see how it pans out.

SunlightInParis · 27/12/2022 13:31

They got it in November, then we had the cold snap so they only used it very spadorically but it's pretty mild here now so I have a horrible feeling they will be in it constantly and as I mentioned before the spring and summer will be unbearable. They seem to get off on making as much noise as possible and act like it's their right to do so. 12AM this morning was an absolute pisstake but they think it's perfectly fine because their enjoyment trumps everyone else's.
I really hope their heating bill is astronomical. It's the least they deserve.

I wonder how much food dye it would take to make it turn blue?

KillerRobotCompetition · 27/12/2022 13:46

At that time of the morning I would find it incredibly difficult not to lose my shit and pour a bag of quick cook rice or something out of the window into it.
Selfish arses!

Loics · 27/12/2022 13:50

Sounds awful, it's no help but my only stipulation when we buy a house is detached with no immediate neighbours due to people like this. Definitely YANBU, they sound nightmarish.

Or turn yellow

nzborn · 27/12/2022 14:23

Code Brown

Fraaahnces · 27/12/2022 14:35

Fertilizer might fuck it up.

SunlightInParis · 27/12/2022 18:21

Lots of ideas here....
Thankfully it's raining now so should stop them doing it again tonight. Selfish to the core they are

You have my sympathy.. I used to live in a holiday area, and, while my cottage wasn't near any of these monstrosities, I knew people who did have holiday cottages next door to them with hot tubs, & it nearly drove them out of their minds.
I do hope someone will post who knows the law & whether they can be made to only use hot tubs at less damn annoying hours.

Judgyjudgy · 27/12/2022 18:29

I really feel for you OP. Nothing worse than selfish neighbours disturbing your enjoyment of your house

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/12/2022 23:29

12 AM as in midnight? That would be quite maddening, as would very early in the morning.

As a short term solution, do you have good earplugs?

Fizzadora · 27/12/2022 23:32

Chamber pot out of the window. Don't think it's illegal😃😃😃

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/12/2022 23:35

I used to love next door to people that did exactly this. It drove me nuts. Especially when I asked them to keep it down one night and they asked me why

Alici · 28/12/2022 00:26

Open the window and pop your head out. Just stay there enjoying the fresh air and looking off into the distance. It may make them feel uncomfortable about continuing their own conversation, especially so loudly. If they ask what you are doing say you can't sleep so are getting some fresh air.

CoorieInByTheFire · 28/12/2022 00:45

Motion sensor security lights aimed downwards so they shine full blast on them? Or a bucket of something smelly right by the fence.

RandomPerson42 · 28/12/2022 00:49

drop yoghurt in the pool and tell them the birds are going crazy and keep doing it.
