Christmas Decs

When do you take down your Christmas decorations? Ours went up the first weekend of December and I can’t remember when we usually take them down.
Would I be unreasonable to take them down tomorrow?

Seems joyless to me, it's still Christmas.

TimBoothseyes · 27/12/2022 13:36

Most of mine come down after Christmas Dinner (I leave a few up...I'm not that mean), as Christmas Day is also my birthday and the afternoon is when Christmas stops and my birthday begins. The rest comes down New Year's day.

CosyScentedCandles · 27/12/2022 13:36

New Years Day if we are home or hosting for Xmas eve. New Years Eve if we are away for NYE because I hate coming back to it when it’s over and seeing the decorations they look sad

NoelleSnowman · 27/12/2022 13:37

Considering we’re still in the 12 days of Christmas then yes, YWBU.

MassiveSalad22 · 27/12/2022 14:02

I don’t really see how it’s joyless when we spent the whole of December doing Christmassy stuff. My parents didn’t even get a tree this year! But they certainly had a very joyful Christmas.

FourChimneys · 27/12/2022 14:33

Our decorations were put up for the Solstice on the 19th. Down yesterday apart from the wreath which stay a few more days until the greenery starts to dry up.

Not bothered about timings for Christmas, it doesn't really feature much here.

gogohmm · 27/12/2022 14:35

6th

Blueberrypeapod · 27/12/2022 14:42

Sorry to be pedantic but twelfth night is actually Jan 5th

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 27/12/2022 15:52

They went up shortly before Solstice and are down and back in the loft today. I’m all clean and decluttered and fresh.

Don’t understand having Christmas decorations up in January. It’s January…

But I feel the same about having them up in November. It’s November…

We also have NY celebrations, family to stay, meal/party, of course we want the lights and decorations up for that.

I think it's odd to take decorations down before NYE - surely decorations should still be up when you celebrate the new year? Confused I used to be strictly 12th night for the tree to come down, because that's what my parents did, but now I like to take the decorations down for the start of term, so this year it will be the 2nd January. I will celebrate epiphany though.

catsonahottinroof · 27/12/2022 22:24

I'm not sure exactly but it will be some time in early January. There seems to be more and more people taking them down early this year which is sad. Either don't put them up in the first place or put them up on Christmas Eve so you aren't sick of the sight of them by Christmas day evening.

luxxlisbon · 27/12/2022 22:26

I can’t imagine a NYE without the Christmas tree still up.

80sMum · 27/12/2022 22:27

I decided to cut out the middle bit this year. To avoid the faff of taking down and putting away Christmas decorations, I never bothered to put any up in the first place!

Coxspurplepippin · 27/12/2022 22:28

Up weekend before Christmas, down 12th night although it'll be a couple of days earlier this year because I'm starting a new job on 3rd and want it all sorted before then. Love these quiet days between Christmas and New Year, evenings with the tree and a fire and all the cheese, and the wine and a good book.

Alanisadick · 27/12/2022 22:30

I usually hate Christmas but I actually had a really lovely one this year so I don’t want to take the decorations down yet. I have been known to drag the tree out to the garden first thing in the morning on Boxing Day though.

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/12/2022 22:31

Ours went up on the 20th and came down tonight.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 27/12/2022 22:46

Think I will be doing mine tomorrow

bloodyplanes · 27/12/2022 22:47

Mine will come down on new years day.

OoooohMatron · 27/12/2022 22:51

Usually new years day, hangover permitting! Definitely before kids go back to school.
