Christmas Decs

When do you take down your Christmas decorations? Ours went up the first weekend of December and I can’t remember when we usually take them down.
Would I be unreasonable to take them down tomorrow?

Chickpea17 · 27/12/2022 12:44

We take ours down Boxing Day night always have.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 27/12/2022 12:44

Mine went up pretty early this year. I have grandchildren and theirs went up at the end of October! I followed suit in November ! !

I will slowly start removing the each day so I do not have to do the whole lot in one day and that way the lights will be put away tidily although for some reason they always seem to be tangled when I want them again.

Elphame · 27/12/2022 12:44

They'll be up until Jan 6th but we don't put them up until the weekend before Christmas.

I can understand those who put them up in November are sick of them before the turkey is cold though!

Sparklesocks · 27/12/2022 12:45

My birthday is 1st Jan so I tend to take them down a few days before as I like my birthday/Christmas to have a separation.

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/12/2022 12:47

Ours generally go up fairly late so we've only had them up a week. They usually come down early January but it will probably be next Saturday and then into the garage etc on Sunday.

lunar1 · 27/12/2022 12:56

New Year's Eve here. I like to put them away and have a good clean so it's nice when I wake up on the new year.

LindaEllen · 27/12/2022 12:57

Ours will be coming down probably the 2nd this year.

I find it depressing to have it up when everyone is back at work/school/uni (and I already know how lucky I am to have a job that allows such generous time off, don't worry).

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/12/2022 12:58

I took the cards down today and had a tidy up and tree comes down NYD.

RoseAndRose · 27/12/2022 13:03

Take them down whenever you like

I think it’s rather sad to take away the lights and sparkle before Christmas finishes (Twelfth Night) - especially as it’s about to be dreary for weeks

But if you want to celebrate for only the first 48 hours of a 12-day festival, then of course that’s fine

imnotthatkindofmum · 27/12/2022 13:05

When the bags I've ordered to put the trees in arrive!

bumblefeline · 27/12/2022 13:05

Twelth night.

MassiveSalad22 · 27/12/2022 13:06

Yes I used to be a twelfth night person but realised I much prefer a fresh start to the year and the decs piss me off once Christmas is done 😄

Ramsbottom · 27/12/2022 13:06

I think if you know you get fed up of them, then maybe don’t put them up so early? It’s your home, you can take them down when you please. No permission is required

Els1e · 27/12/2022 13:08

Probably 2nd Jan. I love them but always feel ready to take down, pack away and have a good clear up after new year.

Gliere · 27/12/2022 13:09

It is completely reasonable to to do whatever you want in your own home!

I will probably take mine down on Saturday (NYE).

I've put them up before on Christmas eve and taken them down on Boxing day!

sandgrown · 27/12/2022 13:11

6th January.

Pointlessuser · 27/12/2022 13:11

Doesn’t feel right to take the decs down in December for me but January is so busy for me and DH with work, it’s our busiest time of the year and stressful so normally they don’t come down till February

Mommabear20 · 27/12/2022 13:12

Ours are coming down today. We prefer them up early and down before new year, so we can start the new year without that mammoth task still to do!

Loics · 27/12/2022 13:15

Today, we've had them up for almost 2 weeks now.

Curiosity101 · 27/12/2022 13:17

We did ours today cause we've got two young children and today just happened to be the most convenient time as we're both off work.

We tend to put them up early though. Normally the last weekend in November 😁

DappledThings · 27/12/2022 13:18

Never before Twelfth Night. And I will continue to judge anyone who does bring them down while it is still Christmas. We are only up to 3 French hens today.

AdelaideLane · 27/12/2022 13:20

I keep mine up until 12th night. I was brought up to think that later than this is unlucky.
I love the post Christmas and into NY break, when we can relax, eat good food, play board games and sit around the fire, Christmas lights on, candles lit. All the stress of Christmas gone! This is the best time.

Krakenwakes · 27/12/2022 13:22

We are nowhere near 12th Night yet, so the Christmas period has barely begun, but of course you can do as you like. I keep some stuff up till Candlemas.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 27/12/2022 13:23

Ours always comes down on the 29th as we go away on the 30th for New Year and I hate coming back to it still up.

Im sick of the sight of the bloody thing and can’t wait for it to be gone.

KimberleyClark · 27/12/2022 13:23

6 Jan. Went up 15 December.
