Has anyone been?
is it *Very pricey, is it worth it?

It’s my dream to take Dd, 4, we live in a hot place so unlikely she’ll see snow for a long time.
Sat here thinking I’d just love to get away somewhere next year and escape all the *Stuff of Christmas.
But, is it a pipe dream?
If I save really hard each week/month, is it doable or are we talking thousands and thousands? 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's about a grand and half for a day/night trip alone but I know the people who have paid that said it is worth it and the most magical place on earth

Nearlychristmas123 · 23/12/2022 20:31

Recent trip of a work colleague, 3.5k for 2 nights all inclusive (food and all activities)

Wouldilietoyouismint · 23/12/2022 20:32

@Cas112 Per person?

I went 10 years ago with DS. We went on 23rd December and returned boxing day. It was an amazing holiday and worth the £2000 it cost.
I wouldn't recommend it for under 4 year olds, toddlers seemed to be struggling with the cold. DS was 8 and loved it.

Wouldilietoyouismint · 23/12/2022 20:33

@Nearlychristmas123 Is that including everything-flights etc? For how many people? 2 nights isn’t long 😬

upfucked · 23/12/2022 20:34

I assume it will depend where your flying from? Surely you can just do a few searches and have some idea of prices.

Wouldilietoyouismint · 23/12/2022 20:35

@fairgame84 Was that just you and Ds? Did that include flights etc?
My Dd would be 5,5 by next Christmas, there would be her, me and Dh

We went 8 years ago on 23rd December. It was -35 degrees. Too cold to be enjoyable. The warming huts were full of screaming children and the food was frap. It was a day trip and my dad paid. It was an experience but I wouldn't pay these prices for it.

RandomMess · 23/12/2022 20:38

Recent day trip from the UK £1k each.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 23/12/2022 20:40

Wonderful. My dc really want to go back. But we did it in Feb and did it ourselves so no santa stuff and plenty of freedom. We did lots of walking in the woods in the snow, skiing, reindeer sleigh ride and saw the northern lights all for a fraction of the cost of an organised trip and we had a lovely self catered lodge with a fireplace, plenty of logs and a private sauna.

FlamingoSocks · 23/12/2022 20:41

We paid 7k for three nights last year for 4 of us
Absolutely worth every penny. Some truly magical moments.
I would say around 8 is the ideal age to go.

Yes it was a package with tui. Half board from Manchester to saariselka. Included a trip to see santa in his village.
Just me and DS.

Slightlydustcovered · 23/12/2022 20:48

We have just done it DIY, early December, 2 adults 2 kids, flight direct from London to ROV air band b , huskies, reindeer, Santa saw the northern lights even went to the polar museum. We self catered. Had a blast. Total cost for everything £1470. It can be done cheap but it takes lots of time hunting out deals.

That was for 3 nights

@Slightlydustcovered That’s a great price!

We paid around 3.5k for 2 adults and 1 child for 3 nights / 4 days . That included flights , half board and a day at Santas village . It was so so magical and we done loads in them 4 days including a husky safari , reindeer slay ride , walk in the woods and having a look in the local town . I'm so glad we done it . My DD was 6 and was just mesmerised . We went with Inghams.

Manchestermummax2 · 23/12/2022 21:06

7 years ago I went, so price will be different but ours cost 7k, 5 adults & 3 kids (9,7 &6)
3 nights/4days.
All inclusive, santa Village, huskey sledge pulling, reindeer ride & snowmobiles all included. Saw northern lights but was very foggy!
Was approx -20
Best experience of our lives & probably a pipe dream to do it again but the memories we have will last forever, it was so magical that even I believed! 🎅🌟
We had a fab time sledging to the shops, falling in huge 5ft snow drifts... of & make sure you're on the right side of the pavement! It was split in 2 for pedestrians & snowmobiles! 🤣

Only downside, which was negligible really, was good wasn't amazing (though perfectly edible.... no fresh food as everything has to be bought in, nothing grows in the snow!

I do think 4 is a little young, it's a lot of faff kitting up all the time, I had to help my 7 year old & it got tedious!

Yes I got an utter steal on the flights which were just over £100 per person rtn. That really made the difference.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 23/12/2022 21:25

We went in January 2020 - €1500 for 4 of for flights and a week in an airbnb. It was absolutely amazing and unlike anywhere else we've ever been.

thecatsthecats · 23/12/2022 21:27

I went alone last year, stayed 6 nights, self catering just outside Rovaniemi.

For a grand, I had a beautiful woodland cabin, flights via Helsinki (with an overnight in Helsinki airport), trip to Santa's cavern and spent a day in the village, plus a nighttime skimobile trip. I went late November, instead of peak time.

Chickpea17 · 23/12/2022 21:31

We went to Lapland in Finland 10 days ago cost 4k for 4 nights. We did diy holiday that included everything. We did loads and i do mean loads also hired a car.

Tickledpickle · 23/12/2022 21:32

We stayed in Levi from 23rd to 26th December. It was incredible! Children were 14 & 12. Lots of sledging, husky rides, saw the Northern lights and visited Santa too of course! We plan on going back maybe next year. Flew with Tui.

Tickledpickle · 23/12/2022 21:32

This was last year and cost around 6k

Wouldilietoyouismint · 23/12/2022 23:07

Such a variation in everyone’s prices, interesting

It’s either there or Disney Paris, but I’ve never been that keen on Disney

Going off-peak is the way forward - days are also incredibly short in December.

We were looking into it and thought we would go at Easter if we were going. Sunnier, warmer, but still plenty of snow. Helps that DS doesn’t really believe in Santa, so won’t mind going outside of December.

Going on a day trip on Dec 23rd sounds like hell on Earth - I am glad the people who have done it enjoyed it, but way too stressful and expensive for me.
