Turkey at Christmas

To not particularly enjoy Turkey. Never have it other than Xmas.
To only like the first slice carved?

Don't have it - when I was young we were a family of big meat eaters so we would have some of: beef, pork, pheasant (if dad had been able to get one), duck and chicken.
You could also have the much wondered-about (on here) three bird roast as a compromise, or go completely off-piste with salmon, takeaway etc.
Do what suits you.

Cap89 · 22/12/2022 18:42

Agreed. We do two chickens. Much prefer chicken cooked well to any version of turkey!

BigFatLiar · 22/12/2022 18:43

When I was little chicken was a treat. Never had turkey at Christmas till I was in my late teens.

Aquarius1234 · 22/12/2022 18:45

Turkey leg might be ok..

We usually have goose at Christmas. It's more traditional where we live now.
We also have a duck for new year's...

TolkiensFallow · 22/12/2022 18:47

I’m into a rolled stuffed turkey breast, cooked in a bag. Total game changer.

fancyacuppatea · 22/12/2022 18:48

We used to have a combo of chicken, beef and gammon - it lasted for days and days and days...

Chickenkeev · 22/12/2022 18:49

Chickrn here. Turkey is manky.

MissyB1 · 22/12/2022 18:50

I can’t eat it, makes me gag! We have beef on Christmas Day and Gammon on Boxing Day.

TruffleShuffles · 22/12/2022 18:53

We do a chicken and porchetta joint. I tried turkey for a couple of years but I just really don’t enjoy it. I find it pretty bland and it doesn’t taste as good for leftovers as chicken does.

Pansypotter123 · 22/12/2022 20:03

Beef Wellington here 🤗

Aquarius1234 · 22/12/2022 20:23

Turkey Crown is awful.

lovemelongtime · 22/12/2022 20:24

Rabbit for us.

tickticksnooze · 22/12/2022 20:26

It's a very recent "tradition". If you don't like it then don't bloody have it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2022 20:26

I really like it once a year. It’s like the blanket on which the rest of the deliciousness sits

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2022 20:27

Aquarius1234 · 22/12/2022 20:23

Turkey Crown is awful.

With you on that

Blocked · 22/12/2022 20:27

I can't believe people like chicken more than turkey. I think chicken tastes horrible, really strong.

DarkNecessities · 22/12/2022 20:28

You’re buying the wrong turkey and you’re also cooking it wrong!

IntentionalError · 22/12/2022 20:28

In our house, we are ABT. Anything But Turkey. This year, we are having a leg of British Lamb, roasted with lots of garlic & rosemary until caramelised on the outside & pink in the middle. 😋

foxandbee · 22/12/2022 20:28

I think it depends on the type of turkey. We get a Barras bronze and it is delicious. But it is mega, mega expensive.

UsingChangeofName · 22/12/2022 20:29

YANBU to not like it particularly, but I haven't voted, as I think turkey is lovely.

I love it as part of the main dinner, and then I love it cold in sandwiches for the next few days.

We aren't ken on legs, so we always have a crown.

CakeCrumbs44 · 22/12/2022 20:29

I don't mind turkey, it's fine, I don't think it's a "treat". We usually have rib of beef for Christmas which is a lot nicer in my opinion and feels more special. It's not even that much more expensive as turkeys are ramped up in price at this time of year (obviously). This year we are having turkey because we will be with my in laws.

Dogsgottabone · 22/12/2022 20:30

We are having beef fillet and chunky chips.

Do whatever works for you.

Mentalpiece · 22/12/2022 20:30

I don't like turkey, although I buy and roast the dogs a large leg each for their Christmas dinner.
It has to be a goose for me.

nocoolnamesleft · 22/12/2022 20:32

We like turkey, so we will be having turkey. If you don't like turkey, have something else.
