Peta using baby

hellosunshineagainxxx · 21/12/2022 15:23

Not posting link as could be triggering but it's on the Manchester eve news fb page. PETA are using a dead baby doll in place of a turkey on their stall in central Manchester today.

I don't eat meat but aibu for saying this seems so insensitive and tone deaf for those who have lost a baby 😢

OP posts:
walkinthewoodstoday · 21/12/2022 17:40

How is a baby doll, which has never been alive, presented as dead?

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/12/2022 17:48
Confused
Wronglane · 21/12/2022 17:49

There is NO WAY I am eating a dead doll for Xmas lunch

NuffSaidSam · 21/12/2022 17:51

It is a really horrible picture tbf. A doll made to look like a dead baby for anyone struggling to understand what the OP is talking about.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 21/12/2022 17:52

They had a stall at a market where I live they were asked to leave as they had videos playing on a tablet of animals being slaughtered and were handing out leaflets to kids saying that cheese was made out of rape and murder.

They don't do their own cause any favours.

Flamingogirl08 · 21/12/2022 18:05

Peta are so weird. They alienate so many people from their cause with their extreme stunts. Ridiculous

BlackForestCake · 21/12/2022 18:06

PETA are lunatics, best ignored.

bellac11 · 21/12/2022 18:07

They're extremists who peddle untruths.

Eustaciavile · 21/12/2022 18:08

A pretend kitten or puppy would have worked better, but PETA are right. The turkey (and indeed all animals within the meat industry) are subjected to horrific cruelty, but people either don’t care or look the other way. This ad challenges that.

JubileeTrifle · 21/12/2022 18:10

Not all people will see animals the same way. You can’t force them to.
This behaviour is just counter productive. I worked with a very vegan woman, my colleague used to say her rants made her want to go home and eat a burger (she didn’t even really eat meat herself).

Stressedmum2017 · 21/12/2022 18:16

I just think its hilarious they think that stunt would convert anybody. Just shows how deluded they are.

DogInATent · 21/12/2022 18:19

They're bonkers. Just another fringe organisation looking for attention.

From what you describe, YANBU. Not sure why you're getting some facetious/dismissive comments re something gratuitously nasty.

PETA are repeatedly 'gratuitously nasty', it's their standard mode of communication.

I'd have asked if they wanted to see real pictures of a my dead baby babies because it's nothing like a turkey.

I understand the point they're trying to make, but it did make my stomach go a bit tight briefly, and I'm not one to be mard.

unvillage · 21/12/2022 18:46

PETA continue to kill thousands of cats and dogs in their shelters, their ultimate goal is for no one to have a pet at all. That's why they didn't use a cute kitten toy - people would rightfully point out how they are actively killing animals. They believe pet ownership is in itself cruel.

donquixotedelamancha · 21/12/2022 19:16

They've made it look like it's been roasted, served it up with stuffing and all the trimmings then pretended to eat the baby.

PETA are right. The turkey (and indeed all animals within the meat industry) are subjected to horrific cruelty

Their point is a little more than that. They feel that eating any animal is the moral equivalent to canibalism. They think any amount of violence and offence is justified by trying to stop mass murder in the same way as anti-abortion extremists.

PETA continue to kill thousands of cats and dogs in their shelters, their ultimate goal is for no one to have a pet at all.

They feel it's better to kill animals than keep them 'as slaves'. That's why they euthanise (almost) all pets given to them- they want all domesticated animals (farm and home) eliminated.

EasterIsland · 21/12/2022 19:22

PETA have form for misogyny and sexism, so this is not surprising. They’re a pretty unethical organisation masquerading as an ethical one, IMO.

Loics · 21/12/2022 19:22

I don't disagree with the tablets showing the slaughter process - I am not vegan or vegetarian, but if we eat meat, we should face up to how cruel the meat industry can be, and understand the process of how it's made.
I think Peta are dodgy though, for many of the reasons already posted.

Ponoka7 · 21/12/2022 19:28

I used to be vegan and I'm still a member of different vegan/vegetarian groups. There's no reasoning with the extremists. They don't care that they are pushing people away from veganism. It was a waste of time trying to explain that change means getting people on side using a gradualist approach akin to the Fabian society strategy.

You agree with small children walking past a market stall and seeing animals being slaughtered on screens because they should know what they are eating?

I don't believe it's up to anyone to make that choice for other people, let alone children.

If parents were sitting their kids down to make them watch horror films they would likely have SS involved, PETA shows them real animals being slaughtered and its ok?

No, I didn't say that, so can't really answer your question, sorry.

Oysterbabe · 21/12/2022 21:29

I saw one in Bristol last year where they were serving up a dog.

That's horrendous, it's things like that, that put me off Peta. They could do so much good with their platform, but they're so extreme they drive people away.

Wronglane · 21/12/2022 22:43

I mean I’d eat dog if it was legal. Why not
