Peta using baby

Not posting link as could be triggering but it's on the Manchester eve news fb page. PETA are using a dead baby doll in place of a turkey on their stall in central Manchester today.

I don't eat meat but aibu for saying this seems so insensitive and tone deaf for those who have lost a baby 😢

I mean I’d eat dog if it was legal. Why not

It's legal to eat dog. Why would it not be?

donquixotedelamancha · 21/12/2022 22:57

That's horrendous, it's things like that, that put me off Peta. They could do so much good with their platform, but they're so extreme they drive people away.

Are there things about PETA which don't put you off? It's not like stealing and killing a child's dog or cooking a dog and displaying it on a stall is out of line with the rest of what they do.

No.

UseAMuckySock · 21/12/2022 23:01

I really dislike PETA. I used to follow them but they were so extreme it felt like I was following a weird cult.

The final straw was when they posted that ALL dog breeding, professional or otherwise should be outlawed across the world.

presumably leading to the extinction of the domestic dog? Weird bastards.

Prescottdanni123 · 21/12/2022 23:08

It is disgusting but I am not surprised. PETA are crazy.

Oysterbabe · 22/12/2022 07:43

Telling that they chose to pay off the family for 50k rather than face questioning about their euthanasia policies.

The taste. Though tbf cat is worse .

Ocrumbs · 22/12/2022 07:49

I don't know why they did that as its going to upset some vegans too. It makes no sense.

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 22/12/2022 07:57

They're total edgelords trying to provoke a row and get some column inches. Honestly they have the marketing tactics of a stroppy 13 year old.

Flapjackquack · 22/12/2022 07:59

They are extremists who use celebrity affiliations to give themselves a veneer of respectability. They don’t give a shit about animals really, if they did they’d be working to improve conditions now as they move towards their goals steadily. PETA’s biggest goal is attention for their own egos.

Because of the irony that is killing millions of innocents to celebrate the birth of an innocent…

we are just so cognitively dissociated from that fact, that I guess they think people need to be offended to make a few realise what they are a part of.

You missed out the nouns from that sentence. Do you mean killing millions of turkeys to celebrate the birth of the supposed Son of God is ironic? If so I'm not sure you really understand irony.

we are just so cognitively dissociated from that fact, that I guess they think people need to be offended to make a few realise what they are a part of.

What possible basis do you have to say that? Why would you imagine that anyone doesn't know they are eating a dead bird at Christmas? How does pretending to indulge in canibalism help them 'understand' that they eat meat?

The scare tactics and physical violence from PETA and the ALF doesn't seem much like encouraging understanding to me, it seems like trying to bully those you don't agree with.

LimeTwists · 24/12/2022 15:52

Well, I guess I’d be the perfect person to offend - I’m vegan but hate militant vegans and have lost a baby. I looked at the picture and it’s a pink plastic doll with some black soot rubbed on it. Didn’t look dead or even mildly offensive to me, in all honestly. I was expecting blood, entrails and horror but unless I’m looking at the wrong thing on the MEN page it was literally just a grubby doll on a dish.

LimeTwists · 24/12/2022 15:55

*honesty

CocoLux · 24/12/2022 16:04

The meat industry is absolutely horrific. People don't like to acknowledge it, but it's a fact.

Alfur · 24/12/2022 16:08

Ponoka7 · 21/12/2022 19:28

I used to be vegan and I'm still a member of different vegan/vegetarian groups. There's no reasoning with the extremists. They don't care that they are pushing people away from veganism. It was a waste of time trying to explain that change means getting people on side using a gradualist approach akin to the Fabian society strategy.

You were never vegan then. You were just eating a plant-based diet for a phase. Vegans who understand what it means to be vegan never go back.

Alfur · 24/12/2022 16:11

Peta a correct about pets though. The number of farmed/fished animals who would be saved from horrible deaths is in the billions a year for the UK alone, if we did away with meat-eating pets.

Wonnle · 24/12/2022 16:17

bellac11 · 21/12/2022 18:07

They're extremists who peddle untruths.

Yep !
They have been laughed out of the USA and come over here to try the shit tactics
If they have their way NO ONE would even be allowed a pet
