I don't want to start a UCM type thread but it just struck me how prety much everyone i saw at the shops earlier was foreign.

no one seemed to be speaking English at all.

Hannahandnoah - a few years ago dh got attacked by a local known thug purely because he was with me (mixed race couple). He was white. Should we tremble with fear every time we see a young white lad? It was in London btw.

hercules1 · 21/08/2008 14:27

Oh and shorty, I have lived in London for the last 15 years and am nearly always in situations where I am the only white person and I can honestly say I've never felt intimidated. Perhaps we have very different views on how things are...

Aitch · 21/08/2008 14:52

and also, cestlavie, i imagine if you aren't particularly well-educated yourself (or have dyslexia issues etc, i'm trying to find a good reason for shorty's poor spelling/grammar etc) and having foreign doctors and teachers doing a job with less status than your own and hearing them chat in their own language... perhaps you just start getting a bit paranoid? who knows?

zippitippitoes · 21/08/2008 14:54

it totally offends my pcness to call someone shorty

hercules1 · 21/08/2008 14:55

Lol - I didn't even notice, I just couldn't remember the rest of it!

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 14:56

Zippi

Maybe her name change could be VerticallyChallenged.

PinkChick · 21/08/2008 15:01

i know what your saying MAmazon, its hard to be able to describe it/explain what you mean in this day and age without be called rascist.

We went to blackpool recently and we encountered lots of "non english speaking people"..not singled out.., who are supposedly very religious and stand by it but it was comical how all the younger people would sneak off to pub and have pint/fag/shouting/swearing/learing while older family members were looking in other direction.
MY experience of that as well, was that every ride dd wanted to go on (and i mean EVERY one) she was pushed out of the way/shoved to one side by this particular bunch of non english speaking people, and im talking adults, not children pushing her! as they claimed they DID NOT UNDERSTAND the sign saying "please Q here" and ignored the fact dd was stood behind this sign IN FRONT of them/their children

MrsMattie · 21/08/2008 15:03

Shorty, are you sure you're not Prince Phillip?

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 15:06

Be careful Pinkchick your be branded a racist for saying anything bad about someone from another culture!

PinkChick · 21/08/2008 15:06

oops, sorry didnt know this was old/resurected thread, totally irrelavent posting now

zippitippitoes · 21/08/2008 15:06

sneaking off to a pub in blackpool! and leaving the old folks out not sure that is antyhing to do with race/nationality

or pushing in queues

hercules1 · 21/08/2008 15:07

I went to Thorpe park earlier in teh week and there were plenty of white people pushing in the line. Sigh, I hate people making generalisations. It proves nothing except shows their prejudice and ignorance.

MrsMattie · 21/08/2008 15:10

What do people hope to achieve by complaining and generally being nasty about whole huge swathes of people, though@Shorty? Are you going to make life better for yourself, or anyone else? Has ranting about people who are different to you ever achieved anything, other than violence and, oh yes, a world war or two? It just seems so small minded and pointless bitching away about certain ethnic groups. Anyone with any intelligence learns when they are about 5 yrs old that someone's nationality / religion / skin colour doesn't make them a good or bad person.

PinkChick · 21/08/2008 15:11

no, im not ignorant or making generalisations, i am saying these people were walking round in full national dress all day until they hit the pubs, it was all off and basically making a mockery of what they are supposed to stand for and i mention them pushing dd out of way because THEY did, not saying white/english people WOULDENT..but THEY DIDNT!..thats not a generalisation, its a fact and an observation..sheesh, should have know!..thats why i said "its hard to explain what you mean in this day and age"..as everyone shouts racist!!!..pathetic, that you can only have an opinion if its something everyone agrees too!

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 15:11

Aitch I am very well educated I have 13 GCSE's A's and B's also Btecs GNVQ's I am not paranoid about what they are capable of as its apparent in this country all they are able to do is Pick Greeting cards for a living something that I would not ever do its got to be the most boring job ever. I was responding to what someone else had said about how they are very highly educated which they are I was agreeing to what they said.

PinkChick · 21/08/2008 15:12

oh and herculaes, i didnt say they were NOT WHITE!!?/..thats a HUGE assumption you made there!

hercules1 · 21/08/2008 15:13

My mother has fairly daily mailist views and I often have to remind her she is not a British Citizen either and her grandparents were also Polish.

Aitch · 21/08/2008 15:14

i don't understand your last post, shorty, sorry.

and pinkchick, national dress? what does that mean? what are those people to whom you refer supposed to stand for, exactly?

ilovemydog · 21/08/2008 15:15

AM amazed the Fijian army has a base in Oxford...

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 15:16

I do not look at people by the skin colour or Creed or there religion I don't judge people either I never said these people are bad people.

Pinkchick give up now these people think the sun shines out of there arses and they are right and everyone else is wrong.

CaptainFabioHiltsTheCoolerCat · 21/08/2008 15:16

Hello.

I never do this, but I can't be arsed to read from where I last read up to at some point around 8 this morning, so will someone be kind enough to answer the following, please?

Is this a thread of interesting debate, or are people taking the piss out of the loons?

zippitippitoes · 21/08/2008 15:17

but chick

isnt it possible they are individuals primarily

so they might behave in a way you dont like but that is not because they are a particular race/nationality that just seems terribly obvious to me as an irrelevant fact

a fallacy

Aitch · 21/08/2008 15:18

did they look like this, pinkchick?

if they did, they were welsh, who are well-known queue-jumpers.

(don't understand your question, fabio, sorry... )

Shorty84 · 21/08/2008 15:18

What don't you understand!? Do you not know what a GCSE is OR a BTEC or GNVQ there qualifactions I was replying to what you posted.

ilovemydog I didn't think they were based in Bicester either I have never seen them wondering around do see alot of squaddies thou

hercules1 · 21/08/2008 15:19

PErsonally I'm very proud of the way english people behave in foreign countries especially when they are wearing our national costume of a football strip...
