What do you have for Boxing Day?

I’d normally think leftovers..but it’s only the 3 of us this year, so I haven’t got loads for Christmas dinner and even so, I imagine Dh will eat any bits leftover on Christmas Day evening.
Do you make a whole new meal for Boxing Day or eat what’s lying around or what?
Ive planned Christmas Eve food and obviously Christmas Day, but not Boxing Day 🤔

Leftovers, sausage rolls, gammon, salads, cheeses, pickles, crisps, dips etc etc.

StrawberryWater · 20/12/2022 19:30

Buffet.

Lots of left over meat, sides, lots of nice cheese, fruit and crackers.

This an amateur question! You purposefully cook enough so that there will be leftoversGrin
I cook Christmas lunch and then the kitchen closes down for a few days. Everybody just grazes whatever they fancy out of the fridge. Or makes their own.

This! It's a choice not to have leftovers.
We'll always have some meat, spuds and stuffing left at least. I make absolute sure of it. 👍

spiderontheceiling · 20/12/2022 19:34

We have a massive fry up about 11.30 and then leftovers of turkey & ham with nice breads & salads. I have some pizza & quiche in the freezer and salamis in the fridge in case there aren't as many leftovers as I'm expecting!
The cheese gets properly tucked into on Boxing Day too.

Iknowhim · 20/12/2022 19:37

Actually, apologies because my last post assumes everyone can afford to buy extra food.

I hear what you are saying but it doesn't bust the bank to prepare too much potato and sprouts. I know I said I don't cook after Christmas but we do always have bubble&squeak for Boxing Day lunch. It doesn't take much cooking - big frying pan, cooking oil, lots of veg, stir every now and then. Serve when suitably mushy and crispy. With turkey leftovers and baked beans. Food of the Gods.

UntilHootOwlReturns · 20/12/2022 19:47

Usually do a rib of beef or pork belly for lunch. Then a buffet of hams, pickles, cheese, salads, party food etc in the evening. But we do have 7 of us here.

Always4Brenner · 20/12/2022 19:47

Buffet nibbles as having dinner Christmas Eve all day then dinner two courses Christmas Day.

Mrstumbletap · 20/12/2022 19:48

Big family affair here on Boxing Day, we divided and conquered this year so we are all in charge of bringing something. Cheese, meats, snacks, pastries, drinks and desserts. Will just snack through the day in between games, chatting and presents.

But Aldi have bacon wrapped halloumi, im excited to eat that on Boxing Day!

Paracetemol, Berocca and a dessert of sedatives.

Hahaha my kind of Boxing Day.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 20/12/2022 19:53

We’re having Yorkshire pudding wraps full of leftovers at DS’s request. They seem to be a bit of a thing on TikTok at the moment thanks to Winter Wonderland apparently 🙈.

OriginalUsername2 · 20/12/2022 19:58

A lay-in (lie-in?) and then a huge buffet of party food, cold meats, veg sticks and dips, cheese and crackers, with drinks and games.

I can only manage a scoop of ice-cream and a few chocolates after a big roast dinner so Boxing Day is when we eat “all the things”.

Then it’s help yourself to leftovers until it’s gone.

THEN comes the stage where we still have cheese so we buy more crackers. Then we still have crackers so we top up the cheeses.. repeat until early February when we finally say enough 😆

OutofControl3 · 20/12/2022 20:01

Dinner turkey/stuffing/ pigs in blankets if some left! With chips gravy apple sauce!

Left over cheese and crackers for supper

MaydinEssex · 20/12/2022 20:07

We'll just be scoffing leftovers, biscuits with cheese, and other nibbly bits.

There is (well was anyway a few years ago (a restaurant in York that did either filled Yorkshire puddings or Yorkshire pudding wraps - they were great/.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 20/12/2022 20:07

Slow cooker curry

Grigorisangel · 20/12/2022 20:11

Left over turkey, stuffing and pigs in blankets with fried new potatoes, baked beans and fresh baked baguettes with way too much butter followed by grazing on cheese and crackers and desserts. I often look forward to it more than the Christmas dinner

Purplechicken207 · 20/12/2022 20:15

Another roast. Absolutely genuinely another roast (but not turkey/chicken). We often see different family boxing day so basically just do it again but a bit more low key.
Though as kids get older I think id rather spend more time playing with them and do cold cuts/cheeses/buffet etc

redressgirl · 20/12/2022 20:34

i’ll do another xmas dinner we only eat once a day and don’t snack so that suits us most to have another cooked meal i don’t buy in the chocolates or cakes biscuits or anything else just have the christmas dinner

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 20/12/2022 20:40

We have another Christmas dinner with whatever parents or grandparents we didn't see on Christmas day

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/12/2022 20:41

Boxing day buffet made up of leftovers, cheeseboard and bolstered by a few frozen 'party' snacks

FortyFacedFuckers · 20/12/2022 20:46

I have Christmas Day round 2 with the in-laws but before this I had curry with the left over turkey!

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 20/12/2022 20:50

Left over Turkey/pork, chips and gravy!

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 20/12/2022 20:51

It's been a yearly tradition in my family for over 50 years! It's my favourite meal of the year! Only time the chip pan comes out! Home made chips! Wooop
