Sick dog - advice needed

Small dog has thrown up after every meal for the past 3 days. She’s very quiet, barely moving. It’s undigested food but sometimes many hours after eating. She’s no appetite today and has only eaten a carrot and a handful of food (which she then brought back up in its entirety 2 hours later).

no bile, only puking food. No diarrhoea.

7 years old.

does it warrant OOH vet? She hasn’t kept anything down (other than water) for 3 days. Awful farting too. DH reluctant to call OOH saying I should just take her tomorrow

You can phone the OOH vet and they'll tell you if she needs to be seen, but given the description of her barely moving I'd be concerned enough to get her in tonight.

Runforthehills82 · 18/12/2022 20:56

Not a vet but currently sitting next to a vet who says please get your dog seen asap.

berrycakeandcustard · 18/12/2022 20:57

Blockage was the first thought I had as well but of course it could be something else equally as serious.

@PawPatwol please take the advice of @SupposeItDoesnt and take your little dog to the vet right away. Hope she'll be ok.

ZellyFitzgerald · 18/12/2022 20:58

If she's barely moving she's likely dehydrated and probably has a foreign body.

Persistent regurgitation is a massive sign of trouble in the stomach or intestines.

Get your dog to a vet asap. She should have gone days ago.

Vomiting for three days? You could have phoned for advice before now even if you didn't think a vet visit was warranted earlier.

I hope your dog is OK.

whirlyhead · 18/12/2022 21:04

It sounds like a blockage to me and if it is, she needs to be seen right away but do ring the vet for advice. I’ve had 7 blockages between my animals, and they’ve all needed immediate surgery or they would have died. 3 days is too long to leave as this is a serious condition. Please call the vet.

CloudyYellow · 18/12/2022 21:07

It could be an obstruction that is life threatening. Take her to the vets now.

FMLonceavain · 18/12/2022 21:08

As someone who lost their much loved dog today I would go straight to the vet

MondayRush · 18/12/2022 21:13

A vet has already said to get to vet straight away.
I am a doctor and think it is obstruction which is an emergency.
Go to the vets now and don't let your dog suffer any more.

I am so sorry for your loss xxx

Waystation · 18/12/2022 21:20

I hope you are now at the vets - if not please go.

SophiaLarsen · 18/12/2022 21:20

Or it could be mega oesophagus which my spaniel had. Same symptoms. Vet.

Blondewithredlips · 18/12/2022 21:21

You have left your dog like this for 3 days?

You don't deserve to have a dog if you cannot look after its needs.

I would report you to RSPCA if I knew you.

Waystation · 18/12/2022 21:20

Sounds like vile husband has vetoed vet. What a lovely "man".

Jaybird43 · 18/12/2022 21:25

Oh OP - go call the vets now. Hope your dog is ok but I cannot fathom why you left it until late Sunday evening to reach out about this!

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 18/12/2022 21:25

I would have probably contacted the vet after 24 hours if my dog hadn’t improved. Three days is way too long to leave a dog unwell for. Please call the OOH vet. It could be too late if you leave it. Let us know how you get on if you can and sending positive thoughts.

Backtoblack1 · 18/12/2022 21:26

Please go to the vet

WhaleInAManger · 18/12/2022 21:26

Vet now.

Blockage would be my main concern. That cannot wait, is life threatening and needs ruling out or treating asap.

Unbelievable this dog has been left unwell for so long.

lipstickwoman · 18/12/2022 21:30

I'm afraid I agree with those holding their hands up in horror. Your poor dog. Probably not moving due to being in pain.

You are so cruel not taking her before now. Please do the right things and get her some help.

Just awful.

userxx · 18/12/2022 21:31

Bollocks to what your husband says, get your dog seen by a vet asap.

wetotter · 18/12/2022 21:33

I think you should at least ring for advice. Now.

Does your insurer have a vetline?

(And in future, consult a vet at second vomit)

Ludo19 · 18/12/2022 21:40

Vet nurse here. Sounds serious and agree with it being a blockage. Sickness in itself is not serious if it lasts a day or so but the fact that food is being brought up undigested and your dogs lethargy would point to a very serious situation. Why you've left it this long is frankly appalling.

Totally agree.

I am so upset that a poor vulnerable dog has been left in this state for 3 days. The poor dog may not survive due to delay.

She needs to get rid of that vile "man" she is married to.

They are both cruel and irresponsible dog owners that do not deserve to have a dog.

berrycakeandcustard · 18/12/2022 22:08

@PawPatwol

Hoping you're currently at the vets.
Could you update us please when you have some news?
