Freaked out by footprints

We have a fresh layer of snow in our back garden that has been undisturbed until now. I went into my garden this morning to find fresh footprints in the form of a large circle. The footprints must be of a child based on the size and the prints look like the underside of wellies. I’m most freaked out because there are no footprints leading up to this circle or leaving, it’s just a perfect imprint where they have walked in a large circle. My garden is very secure, my neighbour to one side has thick prickly bushes against the fence and the other side has bird deterrent spikes along the full length (don’t ask), the back has a large office block, it would be impossible for anyone to climb over unnoticed. The rest of the snow is untouched. I can’t work out how this has happened without footprints leading from and to their entrance/exit site. It definitely wasn’t there yesterday as I check every day to see if the snow has melted. DD is too small to go outside alone, it isn’t from anyone in the house. There aren’t any children living nearby who may have sneaked in somehow. Can anyone come up with a plausible explanation before I abandon ship and put the house up for sale!?

When you have old footprints on the snow the new snow settles but lower on old footprints so could it be that?

Panpastels · 18/12/2022 14:23

Unless there is a photo I don't believe this

onmywayamarillo · 18/12/2022 14:25

Robins are known to wear wellies too 🤣

It's not 1983, no one would not have a photo

Not possible. What are you hoping for from this thread OP?

birder · 18/12/2022 14:43

I really, really want to see a lovely clear photo.

Too many windups on here today.

CeliaCanth · 18/12/2022 14:43

Springheeled Jack?

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/12/2022 14:44

Pics ... or my bet is, its a Luggage that has been lobbed in, done a wee circle to find its bearings and has then jumped straight out again.

There is no other logical conclusion.

My other bet is that the op vanishes, with an each way on 'I can't seem to upload a photo, I don't know how'.

birder · 18/12/2022 14:46

I reckon a photo would be fairly easy, I'm thinking a very long stick with a weighted welly on the end. I might give it a go myself as the OP can't be bothered.

Well I’m sure it would give your neighbours something to talk about at least 🤣

Inyournewdress · 18/12/2022 14:52

No footprints so the creature responsible must have either landed from the sky or come up from the earth. Could be a mole, although it seems unlikely they’d be in wellies. Could it have been two birds, each carrying a welly in their beaks?

Lunde · 18/12/2022 14:53

Definitely trolls .......

I would love to see a photo of this.
I'm not saying I don't believe you (although I admit to being skeptical), but I would love to see the evidence.
Maybe the snow has melted now (it's turned to rain here) and we will never get to see it!

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 18/12/2022 14:54

Easy rationale explanation.... yours was the garden the flying snowmans' loose nose dropped into while cruising over the gardens last night en route to north pole. A quick drop in to retrieve and then a short circular run for getting up steam for taking off again.

(Snowman may have been on tv last night Xmas Grin)

Has someone been reading "A Shetland Winter Mystery"?
"It's the dark nights in the run up to Christmas, and sailing sleuth Cass Lynch's first night on dry land is disturbed by strange noises outside her isolated cottage. Tiny footprints in the moonlit snow trail from her front door before mysteriously disappearing. Soon Cass learns others were visited by the same tiny feet in the night."
