To bare my midriff over 40?

Ordered a top online for a Xmas party next week and it is more cropped than it looked on the website. It skims my belly button but obviously a lot more skin shows if I raise my arms! I have a toned stomach and actually feel really good in it, but is this one of these trends that are absolutely out if bounds if you wore it the first time round?

YABU - nobody over 40 should be seen in a crop top.

YANBU - wear the top (and put that 90s navel piercing back in too!)

Don’t be moaning if you have younger guys hitting on you

Computersaysno123 · 17/12/2022 17:47

I'm 41 and occasionally have some stomach skin showing. Why the hell not!? Literally no rules, if you feel good it radiates and you look good. Have a great time

skippy67 · 17/12/2022 17:48

Up to you, innit?

SquatBetty · 17/12/2022 17:50

I'm older than you and I'd definitely be bearing my midriff if it didn't look like the battle of the Somme after 2 massive babies, 2 c sections and being 4 stone overweight 😂

Dippydonky · 17/12/2022 17:51

Go for it!

wishing I still had my navel piercing.

Zanatdy · 17/12/2022 17:51

If I had a flat stomach maybe - but I don’t

Notimeforaname · 17/12/2022 17:52

Wear the top,enjoy yourself.

You feel good in it, that's all that matters.

schmalex · 17/12/2022 17:53

Absolutely NU, go for it!

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/12/2022 17:55

If you like it go for it.

But I guess yes it is a young look, but as long as you know that and don’t mind, why not?

Jingleoverthatway · 17/12/2022 17:57

Go for it!

girlmom21 · 17/12/2022 17:57

Can you show us how cropped it is?

What's going on the bottom half? How chesty is it?

theydontspeakforus · 17/12/2022 17:58

Ignore anyone who says no. Wear wtf you want. Nothing better than feeling good in an outfit, sometimes.

Have a cracking party :-)

mauvepaper · 17/12/2022 18:02

Yanbu! Why not.

I'm not too far off 40 and I wear crop tops and leggings or shorts for gym and exercise classes, so am used to showing off midriff there. It's definitely emboldened me to wear very slightly navel revealing tops in non exercise wear.

Oh and I put my navel piercing back in too! Though it's a nice bar rather than the original ring.

mauvepaper · 17/12/2022 18:05

I used to wear hipster jeans and crop tops or skirts and same, so it's a far different look to that of my youth.

The hem kind of sits on my navel but lifts up when I move my arms. There's maybe an inch between the top and my waistband. I'm wearing trousers and no cleavage on show, so the only other bare skin will be my arms.

Will need to stay off the mince pies for a few days to avoid a bloaty tummy though ...

Go for it!
I did when I was your age, can't do it now at 60 plus, so make the most of it.

WonderingWanda · 17/12/2022 18:06

Go for it, I mourn my lovely flat tummy that didn't look like a deflated balloon or have loads of wobbly flab.

Yeagarup · 17/12/2022 18:08

YANBU Go for it. I would/do.

HeadAboveTheParapet · 17/12/2022 18:08

Are you going to be happy and confident in it or are you going to spend the evening pulling it down, not raising your arms and generally being self conscious in it?

That's the only thing I think about.

Is that a Xmas party? Looks like a beach

blondieminx · 17/12/2022 18:17

Go for it - and have a fabulous night!

my stomach is a mess after a baby that turned at 36+4 and diastasis recti! So I keep it covered. But make the most of what you have, right? I still wear mini skirts north of 40 (I do have decent legs at least!)

mauvepaper · 17/12/2022 18:19

You do look great @Yeagarup

Runner? And or Pilates/dance?
