My cat hasn't come home....

My cat hasn't come home and there was a report that a cat similar to mine had been hit by a car. We've been out looking but can't find the cat to see if it is ours.

AIBU to be sobbing at the thought he could be out there alone and injured?

Everything crossed your cat will come home to you soon. No wonder you are worried but hopefully it will be okay. Thinking of you and keep us updated xx

Want2beme · 17/12/2022 00:34

Maybe he's got lo jed in somewhere. How long has he been gone? Pop over to The Litter Tray for good advice. Hope he comes back soon.

AramintaLee · 17/12/2022 00:34

Have you tried local vets in the area? If it has been hit, hopefully it has been taken to to the vet (not sure if you're in the UK, but check out of hours vets in the area)

I hope you find your cat. Must be an awful feeling not knowing.

Mercy1968 · 17/12/2022 00:35

I m sorry to hear that. Can you phone around local vets in case your cat has been taken there by someone? There's usually a local one open for emergencies.
Is your cat chipped to your address/phone number? Vets will scan any brought in and call you.

I m hoping you get news soon, hopefully it's not your cat and he or she wanders in soon

Findyourneutralspace · 17/12/2022 00:35

I hope he’s just found himself
somewhere snug. It’s very cold out. He may well be tucked up somewhere. I feel for you though. I’ve laid awake waiting for cats to come home and I’ve lost one to the road. Hopefully your boy will trot up to the doorstep in the morning. It’s an awful feeling.

AlwaysAuntie · 17/12/2022 00:45

I'll call around the vets in the morning, if he's not home. During summer months he has been known to stay out all night. We've been calling cars home earlier now that it's so cold out. He rarely misses the chance of some food, and has been out since about 4pm. He's 14yrs old and has started acting like an old man.

I really hope that I am overreacting and that he's somewhere safe.

My 15 year old girl is normally like clock work and comes home when my neighbour takes his dog for his evening walk I hear them go out then she’s at our door within a minute waiting to come in, she’s amuses me and our neighbour but she didn’t come home last night me and neighbour called and looked for her on and off for hours was awfully worried as it’s so cold out and shes an old lady now and has her own routine she’s stuck to for years but then this morning first thing she’s at my bedroom window to come in, she never normally goes far these days but maybe with this weather they finding places to settle down out of the cold, hoping the same for you guys and he be home first thing and all well 🤞🏻🍀

ilovesooty · 17/12/2022 01:11

I hope he comes home soon. I know if either of my two were missing I'd be worried sick.

Letthekidsplay · 17/12/2022 01:20

I really hope he’s back soon

AlwaysAuntie · 17/12/2022 01:37

Thank you everyone. Am in bed now, hopefully in the morning he'll be waiting to come in. In which case I shall swear at him for making me worry and inform him that he'll be an indoor cat from now on.

Of course you’re not being unreasonable! Stupid cats are always worrying their owners. I’m worried about mine at the moment because she’s not back yet and a few hours ago a man rang and knocked at my door but walked off before I answered and didn’t return. Naturally I’ve now convinced myself that he hit her even though that makes no sense because my address isn’t on her tag. I will continue to think this until she returns even though it makes no sense whatsoever.

I hope yours is wailing at the door for breakfast in a few hours!

ooherrmissus14 · 17/12/2022 03:32

I'm awake at the moment as my cat hasn't come home this evening either. It's so unlike him as he hates the cold and never misses his night time feed. I'm so worried about him as it's so cold outside. Really hope your cat comes home soon x

berrycakeandcustard · 17/12/2022 05:39

All fingers and toes crossed for all of you @AlwaysAuntie , @EllesB , @ooherrmissus14 that your lovely cats will be waiting to be let in when you wake up in the morning.

AlwaysAuntie · 17/12/2022 09:10

Still no sign of him 😔

motherofcatsandbears · 17/12/2022 09:45

Any sign of him yet? I’m keeping my fingers crossed he’s safe and well.

InvincibleInvisibility · 17/12/2022 10:24

Fingers crossed. My 1 year old cat went missing last week for 36hrs last week including 2 nights. First time ever he had stayed out past 5pm. Its horrible.

We put our dirty clothes outside for the smell as well as scattering his litter round the edge of the garden. He came back at 5.30am and we were all euphoric.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 17/12/2022 10:26

It’s the worst feeling 😢 I hope he’s home soon xxx

AlwaysAuntie · 17/12/2022 09:10

Still no sign of him 😔

My cat disappeared for 3 months, during that time we had deep snow, storms and really bad weather and he came over completely healthy

GeorgeorRuth · 17/12/2022 10:55

One of my boys has made himself comfortable at the elderly lady across the roads house. He comes home when he is hungry little shit

HereIfYouNeedMe · 17/12/2022 10:56

Who posted the report? Can they give you more info? So sorry the worry must be awful! Xx

Lovesnowforever · 17/12/2022 10:57

Oh nooo, this post makes me sad.
I used to have beautiful kitty who just had her 4 kittens in the past week.
She went out and never returned.
Then someone said a few weeks later they saw a similar looking cat lying on side of road up my road run down by car.
When we went there, we couldn’t see anything however this was in the era of no FB so no social media existed to ask around.
The kittens all died too as even when I tried to feed them they couldn’t drink anything as were too young..
She was a such a beautiful and loving cat, I’m still sad thinking about this even this was a years ago.
I hope your cat will come back soon.

Mercy1968 · 17/12/2022 10:59

Have you asked the neighbours? People might have been opening sheds up for spades etc to clear snow or ice and he s got shut in by accident if he s found a warm spot?

Put his litter tray outside if he uses one. Cats will find their way back by smell if disoriented.

I know the feeling so well. My girl hates the cold and won't go out much in it but I have been up all night many times in the summer when she s gone for ages.

It was a lady saw the cat as she was driving by, she couldn't stop. She described where she saw the cat crawling towards. There wasn't anything else she could add to her original post on our local fb page.

I found my cat locked in my garage. He must have slipped in when I went out to get some logs. Perhaps something similar could have happened to yours?

HereIfYouNeedMe · 17/12/2022 11:07

@AlwaysAuntie that's frustrating, maybe try and keep the post going incase there's anyone else dog walking. I don't think it is your moggy but it will be somebody's so hopefully the locals can help 🧡
