To ask what you think about dogs peeing on front grass

A bit of a petty/insignificant one but I'm interested on peoples views. I was walking my little dog yesterday when he pee'd on the edge of someone's grass (not right in the middle of it), she couldn't have been closer to the edge near the pavement & it was only for a second or two, it's also hard to avoid because the small patch of communal grass runs onto their front grass (I'd never intentionally let my dog run onto someone's grass). The owner came to the front door shouting at me about what my dog had done & seemed very snippy about it. I think she was expecting me to apologise but I thought it was a bit OTT so I just said something about not being able to control when my dog pees & walked off. AIBU to think she was a bit over the top or should I have apologised?

I did shout at a man that let his dog pee down my sloped path , That could have got trodden into my house . I threw a bucket of disinfected water over it but I I should not have had to .

If it had been my lawn, I’d have been tempted to follow you home, note your address, then come back after dark with a jug of urine to get my revenge and see how you like a smelly, piss soaked garden.
It really shouldn’t be difficult to stop your dog trespassing and fouling other people’s properties.

WT actual F?

Some seriously ridiculous replies to this thread. OP, it's not ideal, but hardley necessitates some of some of these replies. Wouldn't bother me at all if your dog did a wee on the EDGE of my grass, as you described. A lady on our street did once actually knock to apologise that her dog had wee'd on my grass, which was very thoughtful, but totally unneccessary as I would never had known if she hadn't told me. I do know that dogs wee on the end of the fence between our front garden and the neighbours, but I definitely don't smell urine when I go out there! Some people just want any excuse to moan about dogs.

purpledalmation · 16/12/2022 19:08

Pull him into the gutter. Of course dog wee smells especially in the summer. As for bitches wee!

Mummieslncorporated · 16/12/2022 19:13

We have yellow patches in the grass in the communal areas of our flats because one of the people decided it was a good place to let their dogs pee. It's not great tbh.

But I've never known this as an issue anywhere else that I have lived, so my guess is there is a very thin layer of topsoil here.

If I had a lawn that was getting damaged by dog wee, I would probably be annoyed. But not otherwise.

NosyNeighbour22 · 16/12/2022 19:20

I’m a dog walker and walk loads of dogs everyday but I discourage them from peeing anywhere around someone’s garden. I prefer they don’t do it on peoples garden gates and I wouldn’t let them cross an obvious boundary and pee on someone’s grass. If it did happen and the home owner spoke to me about it I would accept it’s not very nice for them and apologise. I wouldn’t want every dog in the street peeing on my grass!

WiddlinDiddlin · 16/12/2022 19:40

Wow.. its HELLISH to have the occasional bit of piss on a plastic wheely bin?

I truly wish I'd led a life so uneventful, so joyous and delightful that some piss is the closest thing to hellish you can imagine!

Lots of dog owners have said they avoid their dogs doing this, I have said I avoid my dogs doing this, but sometimes... shit or rather in this case, piss, happens. In my case, I carry a bottle of water with me everywhere anyway so I squoosh it down with that.

No one has said that it's acceptable because other animals do it either, they have pointed out that even if dogs DIDN'T do this, your kids are still playing on a lawn that multiple species will have pissed on, that your lawn up close stinks of the multi-species piss (and shit) thats been on it and soaked into it.

If dogs didn't exist... you would still not avoid coming into contact with piss on things left outdoors. Best all build yourselves bubbles to live in eh.

@YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot maybe if you had read the post correctly you'd have seen it was unintentional & this is why I was asking if the reaction was warranted. As for calling me 'entitled', that word is completely out of context to the conversation, look up the meaning please.

As to the others who have been helpful & kind, thanks!

I'm guessing you're the local 'eccentric'.

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 16/12/2022 20:49

It's not about your intentions, it's about basic respect and politeness.

If I accidentally knock an old lady on crutches over I don't shrug my shoulders and think 'oh well accident'. I apologise and check if there's anything I can do.

In this situation it is the lack of apology and the defense that you 'cant smell the piss' that marks you out as entitled. And if you can't control your dog now is the time to heed advice from the conscientious dog owners who have given you advice on this thread.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 16/12/2022 20:54

Yes because a dog pissing on some grass is comparable to knocking an old lady over

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 16/12/2022 20:59

We do not need to get in to a hierarchy of rudeness. Assuming as op apologised she knows she's in the wrong. It's just a shame she had to be told.

It's exactly what you expect to see on such a MN thread though. So over the top and so po-faced.

You do not know everything that goes on in an persons life, and why I reacted the way I did at the time. I was looking for advice on the situation & have received it (amongst other things)! Saying 'it's a shame' someone has to be told something is right/wrong shows you out to be the righteous person you think you are. What a wonderful world it must be, being a person who doesn't do or say anything wrong, ever🙄

OP posts:
YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 16/12/2022 21:13

Whatever. It is a shame that your standards are so rock bottom you think pissing on someone else's property is fine and doesn't merit an apology.

timetosave · 16/12/2022 21:16

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 16/12/2022 15:05

Can I come and pee on your grass op?
How about my toddler or drunk husband?
Wild animals are completely different, you, another human being are actively choosing to put piss all over someone else's lawn. Dog piss isn't some kind of ambrosia. I don't want my front garden smelling of piss whether it's Fido or Fred.

Your original reply really set you apart from the start, thank you for adding nothing but comedic value to the thread!

Well the offer is there. DH is out on the razz tonight. P. Your address and I'll get him to come piss on your lawn. Remember. If you can smell it you are too close.

I'm sorry you married a drunk who pisses in people's gardens. No wonder you're so angry.

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 16/12/2022 21:22

Lol yeah sure I am

Redbone · 16/12/2022 21:23

Yep you were rude allowing your dog to do this.

Sflynn · 04/08/2023 16:37

It is a silly thing to stress over in my opinion. People should worry more about the toxic chemicals they apply to their lawns and all the air pollution they make maintaining them. Cancer, anyone?!

It’s a silly thing to stress over but you’ve chosen to get so worked up about it you’ve brought up an almost 8 month old thread for it? And then somehow linked it to cancer… are you ok?

Verv · 04/08/2023 16:48

I honestly dont care.
The world is covered in pee and poo.
We're the only species that uses a toilet, so fuck knows where all of the "EHRMEGHERD DEURGH PEURGH" lot thinks the rest of lifes excretions go.

CandyflossKaren · 04/08/2023 18:14

Don't care either!

Sflynn · 04/08/2023 19:21

Well, I am not the one who linked it to cancer- many researchers did that. Not really worked up either, a friend brought the subject up and I saw this thread and commented 🤷‍♀️. Why ya so angry?
Anyway, I see I’m not alone in the chill zone regarding this matter.

Have a good day!

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 04/08/2023 19:38

It’s the ones who let their dogs pee all over my alloy wheels that make me cross
