A straight, white couple falling in love.
Even if that isn't the central theme it's shoehorned in somewhere and as a non-white lesbian it's beginning to ruin---- my cheesy Christmas dim viewing.
Please prove to me that I am being unreasonable by suggesting some films that don't contain straight, white couples falling in love? Xmas Grin

Never mind that, they always feature a dog. A clever dog, with human qualities.

It's probably because all the Canadian ones are made by the same people using the same 5 or 6 actors who are often the executive producers too.

Luke Mcfarlane and Candice Cameron Bure seem to dominate.

Does anyone fall in love in Die Hard?

Yep. John and his estranged wife!

stargaze2 · 17/12/2022 19:52

I'm in the same situation as you and feel the same but channel 5 have definitely up things this year. I've watched several films over the past week with lesbian romance and cheesy endings

Fatman
Krampus
Carol

A New York Christmas Wedding on Netflix is about a black lesbian and her partner. Lovely film, really recommend it!

I've literally just watched a film on channel 5 with the lead romance between a mixed race couple

With a gay couple in the same film

I watched that one as well it ticked lots of the cheesy Channel 5 Christmas movie boxes but I did like the lesbian couple and the mixed race couple and the Muslim person winning the gingerbread competition.

I thought this thread was going to be about tropes so I was going to add usually a woman who has a promising career in the city realising that the true meaning of life is moving back to her small town home to be a wife and mother.

The new Amazon prime one with him off of Sex Education features a mixed race woman and a white man. All the other usual Christmas movie tropes apply.

I found this one to be excruciating 😬

Blendandmix · 17/12/2022 21:50

I watched single all the way last year and loved it and had completely forgotten about it so thanks for this thread it's on the list!

I did watch this a couple of years ago and it's probably worth another look now!

And yes the Channel five one is on my list... it's going well 😆

Yes and the husband to be is inevitably great looking "salt of the earth" handy type with jeans and messy hair.

I have nothing at all against a dog with human qualities!
Well not in a Christmas film anyway, in real life it'd be terrifying.
