Okay, so this may seem like a bizarre question.
However seeing as I'm awake at 5am listening to my 9 week old squealing with delight in her cot, because for some reason she has gotten herself into the routine that after the 4am bottle and nappy change its playtime... Anyway I'm awake and thinking of random things...

I discovered a few months ago that my partner stands up when "cleaning/wiping" himself after going to the toilet.
I found this so strange, I'd never heard of anyone doing this. I just assumed everyone remained sitting down and it seemed really alien to me.
Somehow the subject came up when we were with his family (we're not pride and perfectly confortable talking about these things) and it turns out they are a family of stand up wipers! They thought this was normal and the usual thing to do.

So for research purposes and because what else is there to do at this time whilst I wait for my little squealer to go back to sleep, let's do a poll.

I'm not being unreasonable : I remain sitting down to wipe my butt.
I'm being unreasonable : I stand up to make sure I get in all the crooks and crannies.

Hopefully by the time anyone responds to this I'll be asleep!

You do a pat with one sheet to dry or use a dedicated arse towel. Cuts bog roll use down to almost zero.

Do your visitors know which one is the dedicated arse towel before they wash and dry their hands....?! Or do they get the full run-down as soon as they step through the door?

Emmalou0607 · 15/12/2022 10:59

I sit down, DH stands up. I was in shock too what I found out 😂

Yes mine too!! I twist to the right and mine are loose that side!
I want to ask DP now but I don't want him thinking I'm a dirty mare is we do it differently 😂

It's clear you should LTB and find a Southpaw for a mate so that the loo seat stays fixed in place! Of course he'd need to be a sitter, too. Interesting convo for a first date! 😂

My DH was surprised when I said this, I can’t even remember how we ended up talking about it but he always has something leftover. I’m quite happy that I don’t have to deal with that to be honest 😂

@rainbowandglitter
ss i saud in my earlier post. It's diet. When I'm low carbing it's like a perfect poo 😊just leave & no mess/trail.

when eating more carbs etc I call it a man poo, it's never seems to finish properly & lots of wiping. I call it a man poo, I think it's why lots of men end up with stuffy underpants!

I’m almost 60. Can say I’ve never had a conversation with anyone, ever, about their or my preference for arse wiping positions.

No, I haven’t 😢 all my conversations are about boring stuff like work and the weather and my kids. Maybe next time somebody at work says ‘have you got your Christmas stuff all in’ I’ll reply ‘yeah, do you stand up when wiping your bum or sit down? Do you wash your arse after? Which towel do you pat dry with?’

I'm a kindly sort so I put it in the wash if we have visitors. It's confusing enough that I have a shower next to the lav my in laws think it's discusting.
Bidetta is a much more palatable name.

Agree I am 52 and have most definitely never had this discussion before in my life.

JulieMarooley · 15/12/2022 11:25

I worked out the concept of sitting whilst in America, where the toilets flush when you stand or even lean forward. It was very confusing :)

I'm 67, and until today I had no idea that not everyone sits to wipe.

Every day's a school day on here.

Stand with your back to the toilet roll.
Lean forward and reach between your legs.
Grasp the end of the toilet roll.
Pull through till you come to a clean bit.

I start off sitting down but it gets a final polish standing up

All of you hose/shattaf users: isn’t the water COLD down there?!

It has a thermostatic valve like the shower mixer, and the other bit is flow so you set it nice and warm or freezing in the summer.

honestly begrudge all the periods I had without it.

To ask if you stand up or sit down?
LikeAStar1994 · 15/12/2022 17:55

I'm the opposite. I have never heard of anybody wiping when sitting down. How the hell can you even reach properly? I have always stood up and I don't care if that's the "wrong way" or whatever.

Wow, that looks amazing! The ones I’ve seen in my country are always just connected to a cold tap and I can’t quite imagine that in the winter…

Depends on positioning of loo roll holder!

Lol😂😂😂😂😂

CoffeeChocolateWine · 15/12/2022 18:02

I'm a sitter but I discovered my DH was a stander a few years back when I walked in on him wiping. I honestly thought he looked like an overgrown toddler wiping whilst standing. I thought it was really odd...I'm amazed to see how many people on this thread stand. And horrified at the people who put their feet on the toilet seat - where people sit with their naked arses and other people have to sit afterwards where your shoes have been - to get the right angle! Yuck. I also don't understand why people who stand say they can wipe more thoroughly - you get far better cheek-spreadage sitting down! Plus toilet rolls holders are generally at the height for a sitter not a stander!

@ILoveAllRainbowsx I’m a stander, I don’t put my leg or foot on the toilet, I just stand up and wipe. I very very rarely have anything to wipe, 99% of the time the toilet paper is clean.

Lovegossip · 15/12/2022 18:56

Lmao at this thread, for the record I'm a sitter and wipe, never worry about it not being clean because I feel its cleaned up without all the extra faffing around lol

DOBARDAN · 15/12/2022 19:09

I have never had this conversation with anyone before,
But I wish I had, after seeing the consequences of those who do not sit to wipe!

I want a sign for my loo which says 'If you refuse to sit, I'm afraid you cannot '

DOBARDAN · 15/12/2022 19:11

I'm afraid you cannot shit

AlwaysLatte · 15/12/2022 19:17

What a weird post!!

Octo5 · 15/12/2022 19:58

WHAT!! People stand to wipe!!

OMG how have I never heard of this!!

TMI but one time the toilet roll was outside of the door so I had to stand to retrieve it.
Things were a lot more messy to clean after.

justcallmebozo · 15/12/2022 21:23

@Ijuststoodonlego - "😖that was meant to be a perplexed face but looks more like a thrusting emoji

A thrusting emoji??? Never heard of that one, but really want to find an occasion where i can use it.
