To think I just witnessed a glitch in the matrix.

We had to go to 2 different shops for 2 different things. My child was being practically catatonic, which happens sometimes, so went about implementing therapy exercises to help.

This involves holding something manageable, taking it to the till, handing it over, giving the money, saying/signing yes and thank you for the receipt, and often requires extensive help and support. Point is, my child was looking very special.

When handing over the money both times my child said " The change will be X " and both times the 2 different cashiers in the 2 different shops replied with the exact same thing in the exact same tone " It is? It is! Well done mate. Aren't you good with numbers, you should be doing my job!" And my child responded the exact same way both times with a half smile while staring off into the middle distance.

I can't get across how identical the response sounded

I'm a little freaked out ngl.

In fairness there’s a limited amount of replies to that kind a statement and having to humour a kid might lead to a flat tone so meh can’t get too excited tbh

Reindear · 14/12/2022 21:42

is your child usually good with numbers?

It was the opposite of flat, that's why the first one stuck in my brain 😅

Yeah they are gifted. They do things like that a lot, but I've never had 2 unrelated instances in a row have the exact same reaction. Hell, I don't think two people have ever had the exact same reaction full stop!

Overexcitement? Or the cloying ‘can’t think what to say to a child’ kinda tone?

Fizzadora · 14/12/2022 21:55

Yup definite glitch there🛸

Gettingeverybuggoing · 14/12/2022 22:19

😂With a half smile, staring off into the middle distance

tickticksnooze · 14/12/2022 22:21

They sound like culturally expected responses tbh.

ForgetBarbie · 14/12/2022 22:22

Definitely a glitch in the matrix😂

moreparmesan · 14/12/2022 22:23

That’s really bizarre!

mumda · 14/12/2022 22:26

It's in the shopkeepers book of things to say.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 14/12/2022 22:27

See i would of said well done or clever boy etc

ethelredonagoodday · 14/12/2022 22:28

If they said the exact same thing, that certainly is very odd.

blubberyboo · 14/12/2022 22:29

It does sound a little bizarre and could it be weird telepathy or something

But the sceptical part of me wonders is it quite common for cashiers to have people tell them the change out loud and this has evolved into the standard sarcastic response when someone tells them how to do their job.

like when something doesn’t scan and they always hear
“ it must be free then”
“ hahaha yes it must be , it must be! ….that’s £8.99 please”

we need a long serving cashier to answer this!

Cassillero · 14/12/2022 22:32

Did they both say "mate" as well? Hardly anyone says that. It IS weird, I agree!

nannynick · 14/12/2022 22:33

"well done mate" - are you in an area where mate is used a lot?

Both using the word mate... that seems the glitch. The AI should have come up with a variation... one should have said "Well done. You are good with numbers."
Matrix support will pick this up and address it in the next AI update.

Tinselpipes · 14/12/2022 22:34

A lot of people we encounter day to day aren't actually real, so it doesn't surprise me. That's why you never see your neighbours bringing shopping home.

That makes sense.

I was in York at the weekend. I don't think that's real either. It's too much like a movie set. I did point this out to my friends but they looked at me like I was the crazy one 🤷‍♀️

CoffeeBoy · 14/12/2022 22:38

Have you seen 1899 on Netflix? You might like it. Similar matrix glitch.

This made me laugh but it is COMPLETELY true!

SwishSwishBisch · 14/12/2022 22:52

reading this thread in amused bemusement til I got to the post about never seeing your neighbours bring shopping home and now I’m convinced I’m in a simulation 😂

ArseMenagerie · 14/12/2022 22:53

Hang onnnn. I haven’t EVER seen my neighbours unloading shopping 😵

Knew it!

If they were south asian cashiers, then making kids count out the change in their heads tends to be one of the ways we train our kids in mental arithmetic. Otherwise I can’t explain it

Jimmini · 14/12/2022 22:57

Sounds more like The Truman Show and a script writer has gone off sick
