To think I just witnessed a glitch in the matrix.

We had to go to 2 different shops for 2 different things. My child was being practically catatonic, which happens sometimes, so went about implementing therapy exercises to help.

This involves holding something manageable, taking it to the till, handing it over, giving the money, saying/signing yes and thank you for the receipt, and often requires extensive help and support. Point is, my child was looking very special.

When handing over the money both times my child said " The change will be X " and both times the 2 different cashiers in the 2 different shops replied with the exact same thing in the exact same tone " It is? It is! Well done mate. Aren't you good with numbers, you should be doing my job!" And my child responded the exact same way both times with a half smile while staring off into the middle distance.

I can't get across how identical the response sounded

I'm a little freaked out ngl.

I've read all of the posts here and I genuinely feel like I'm dreaming as I've no idea what half of you are on about! Maybe you're all part of my dream.

A lot of people we encounter day to day aren't actually real, so it doesn't surprise me. That's why you never see your neighbours bringing shopping home.

Yes, this,

And the Ocado vans bring the spare parts to fix them when they malfunction.

rumship · 15/12/2022 08:17

So OP why do you think all the replies on MN are from actual people and not the matrix? 😎

This forum is just a simulation.

Omg. I just thought carefully back and I've never seen ANY bring shopping back Confused

😆

Moonatics · 15/12/2022 08:45

I obviously live out of the matrix or its malfunctioning. I do see my neighbours take their shopping in. It's a family of 4 adults with 2 cars, and as I'm on my way to work most days, one of them comes home in one of the cars and takes the Asda bags from the boot into the house.

Tbf I've no idea what's in the bags and it's very suspicious that its every day at the same time, but I do see them.

sentientpuddle · 15/12/2022 08:48

Flip sake. The quote disappeared. That was in response to 'if it flies it spies'
& those stoopid emojis don't post the way they look when you're selecting them.
Maybe they're tracker bots.

BeginningToLookALotLike · 15/12/2022 08:53

Cassillero if they have come down to York on the train in the morning, they will very likely have been drinking on the train journey.**

Unless you have your neighbours under constant surveillance you can’t know if they never bring home shopping or have it delivered.

Bangolads · 15/12/2022 09:14

Did you come here to let us know your kid is good with numbers?

I would love a thread based on this.

emptythelitterbox · 15/12/2022 10:22

I doubt most of my neighbours have ever seen me at all.

I used to walk in the evenings just after dark and one day I realised that most everyone was doing the exact same thing night after night, sat in front of their telly.

It made me a bit sad of the realisation of how bog standard average we truly are.

Mummyratbag · 15/12/2022 10:52

You know how when you are watching a really good film (usually a thriller) and sat on the edge of your seat and biting your nails...then all of a sudden you snap out of it and remember it's just a script and actors and the suspense is ruined? I had a moment of that yesterday waiting to pick up DS1, but with life..

AmberGer · 15/12/2022 11:01

Nah, just a coincidence

That's exactly where we were when I started questioning it's authenticity 🤣

Do you ever get that feeling that you're not really here? A bit like a waking dream? I was having one of those moments and that's when I realised York's definitely a set. I've been going there regularly for almost 40 years so granted, this pretence has been going on for some time. And it's a very well made movie set. With lots of other countries in on the scam.

I sometimes worry I'm cross-eyed and don't know it, and all my friends are too polite to tell me. And I can never quite catch myself being cross-eyed in the mirror but I'm sure I am.

Bookworm20 · 15/12/2022 14:59

I used to have neighbours whose front garden was always totally immaculate. Lawn always pristine. Grass never over grown. But I had not once seen or heard them cutting it. And it definitely was real grass. It became a thing to listen out for the mower, and then we'd just noticwe the grass was cut again, yet no mower! We decided there much be some sort of mary poppins clicking finger thing going on over there.
They were lovely though and one day I just had to ask. how do they keep their grass so neat? and I joked do you do it in the middle of the night?
Turns out they had a little robot cutter thingy that would come out of his little robot house very late evening and cut the grass. And all very quietly. Mind blowing! I actually looked out for it one evening, and there it was, leaving neat little lines as it trundled up and down and then returned to its little house round the side.

Come to think of it, I've never seen them bring in shopping......

Ineedtosleep79 · 15/12/2022 15:16

Maybe they have a robot shopper... 🤖

Ineedtosleep79 · 15/12/2022 15:20

@Bookworm20 sorry forgot copy you in.

Andsoforth · 15/12/2022 15:55

It’s easy enough to spot the bots once you know the signs. For instance, on this thread, they’re the ones claiming to have seen their neighbours unloading shopping Wink

looking very special - shot in the dark OP, are you thinking in French and thus by "special" you actually mean something like "odd"?

You can easily resolve this by studying photos of yourself on social media. Unless you think in order to protect your feelings your friends may have photoshopped all images? If you think that though, I'd have to say that's incredibly unlikely. It would take a massive amount of time to photo shop every single image. Maybe just check a sample. See if you can catch them out?
