To have covid and see family at Christmas

I'm 99% I'm going to test positive for Covid tomorrow, I'm convincing myself I can already see an extremely faint line on an LFT. AIBU to still see family over Xmas? All jabbed to a certain extent, no clinically vulnerable. No one is made to isolate anymore are they? Last Christmas my Mum had it so Christmas was miserable and lonely and we had so much planned for this Christmas Sad

Do you plan on telling them and letting them decide for themselves?

OrigamiOwls · 13/12/2022 22:24

You probably need to ask your family how they would feel about it, rather then Mumsnet

namechange2000000 · 13/12/2022 22:24

Yes sorry, should've said. I wouldn't not disclose it. They'd all be aware and able to decide for themselves.

Don’t test. If it’s that much of a dilemma for you sit and hold tight and see how you feel next week. Just like we did pre-Covid times. Chances are you will be feeling a lot better by then anyway and wouldn’t necessarily test positive by Christmas Day.

Poppyseed14 · 13/12/2022 22:25

If you have it now you will be better by Christmas surely?

namechange2000000 · 13/12/2022 22:25

@Britannah This is my stance, really. No one would've tested for cold/ flu.

Surely better to test positive now than in a week's time? Christmas is still nearly two weeks away!

Honestly, they're the only people you should be asking this question then, not Mumsnet.

Hope it's not too bad for you if you do have it Flowers

  1. Obviously if you have COVID you shouldn't go. Do you remember the last 2 years ?
  2. If you ignore 1 then you should at the very least tell the family you have covid.
  3. It's not yet Christmas. Can't you wait until you are testing negative and still go over for Christmas?

Just aware it wouldn't be just myself likely to catch it. I have 2 young DC and a partner Sad

I've had Covid twice and my DH has never had it.

We don't have a spare room either and normally he catches everything going.

FettleOfKish · 13/12/2022 22:28

Christmas is 11 days away. If you test positive tomorrow then there is every chance you'll be out the other side by Christmas.

I had Covid in May of this year and only tested positive for 4-5 days (and was completely symptom less by day 3).

Have faith.

Hbh17 · 13/12/2022 22:29

Why are you even bothering to test?? Most people definitely wouldn't. It doesn't matter whether or not you have Covid, as it's not a big deal. Just crack on with whatever you have planned.

Flapjackquack · 13/12/2022 22:29

I would just treat it like any other cold or flu at this point. Go if you are feeling better in 11/12 days time. Don’t if you aren’t.

PinkiOcelot · 13/12/2022 22:29

To go back to work in a hospital, I would need a negative on day 5 and day 6 so surely you’d be ok for Christmas. Your kids and partner must get nit catch it off you. If you are positive that is.

PinkiOcelot · 13/12/2022 22:30

Might not catch!

DialsMavis · 13/12/2022 22:30

We have had it 5 times between 3 of us in my house and there has never been any in house transmission. You will be fine by Christmas and you might not even have it anyway

This. You’re being overdramatic.

CharlotteRose90 · 13/12/2022 22:31

As someone that got covid off a selfish family member last year. Don’t be that person. Stay at home and isolate . I got long covid thanks to mine and I’m still very ill a year on.

Mammyloveswine · 13/12/2022 22:31

It's almost 2 weeks until actual Christmas

namechange2000000 · 13/12/2022 22:31

Yes, I am quite an over dramatic person Grin Sorry, I know bigger and much more important things are going on in the world! Thank you all for your advice!Xmas Blush

It's only the 13th. Christmas is 12 days away. Even if you are positive, you will be past the 10 days maximum isolation/quarantine thing by Christmas Eve.

Imapartylass · 13/12/2022 22:32

I have it just now and feel awful. Tested positive on Saturday. My five days isolation ends tomorrow. Had the cough, very high temp and very out of breath. I prob caught it from work as folk have stopped testing and going in coughing and spluttering. Def felt a lot worse than when I had it last year. Christmas is two weeks away so you will be ok. ^^

EvilRingahBitch · 13/12/2022 22:36

You'll probably be fine yourself by then, test the DC during Xmas and inform your relatives if they test positive.

Everyone remembers the last two years and that is why so many of us refuse to continue living like that.
