How cold is it where you are?

Just thought I’d start a thread as it would be interesting to see the different temperatures across the uk (well maybe not interesting, but feel free to comment if you want!)

its currently -9 here. It’s absolutely freezing and it feels like a horrible damn/wet cold. We have the heating on atm and hot water bottles and it’s still chilly. Interestingly, I have friends in another city and the temperature is lower but still cold (-5) and they said it doesn’t feel particularly colder than normal.

whats the temperature like where you are?

my face hurts my legs hurt I'm in fleece pyjamas with a jumper and a blanket I'm still cold. Last winter it was hot at Christmas and I barely needed a jacket

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/12/2022 02:42

-21 with the wind chill in this bit of Canada. 20
degrees warmer than a week ago!

ArrrMeHearties · 13/12/2022 02:46

-8 where I am in a built up area in central Scotland

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 13/12/2022 14:42

Zero degrees in N wales today. Forecast 10 degrees for Sunday. Practically balmy!!

Kam610 · 13/12/2022 14:48

Right now it's -1 and heavy snow but this morning was -15. I'm in NE Scotland.

Pelo22 · 13/12/2022 14:52

I've always wondered, do you have amazingly well insulated houses in places like Canada or do you just have to keep your heating constantly on high throughout the winter? What if your boiler breaks down, how do you not just die? I don't think my central heating system would be able to compensate for outdoor temps in the -40s even if I turned it up as high as it goes 🥶

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 13/12/2022 15:18

I grew up in NE Scotland and am delighted to not be there at the moment.
Rural West Yorks lows of -5 highs of -1. Caused a huge asthma flare up. Joyful

Havanananana · 13/12/2022 15:22

Minus 17 here yesterday, but with the wind chill taking at least another 5 deg. off it felt more like minus 22. But I am half way up a mountain in the Alps. A bit warmer today at only minus 10.

@psychomath - yes, we have very well insulated houses here and triple-glazed windows, so we use very little heating. We didn't even turn it on yesterday. It was the same when I lived in Canada.

Sartre · 13/12/2022 15:24

-1 in North Yorkshire. Had no snow which is disappointing.

thelobsterquadrille · 13/12/2022 15:35

-2 with a RealFeel of -6. I'm in Cumbria.

Falconwithaview7312 · 13/12/2022 15:45

18 to 20 warm & sunny
In Southern Europe on holiday

stargirl1701 · 13/12/2022 15:46

Minus 10 this morning at 8am... What will it be tomorrow?!!

Itsonlyagame · 13/12/2022 15:48

-13 last night, -2 tonight should feel positively tropical. Aberdeenshire.

heidihigh · 13/12/2022 15:53

Where I currently am, 10 degrees and raining as we are on a city break in Central Europe. However, we are due home tomorrow and apparently it's currently -2 and expected to be -6 overnight. Can't wait Envy

Tarkan · 13/12/2022 15:55

1° right now in my area of NE Scotland.

It was -6° last night, I've never seen it lower than -10° here and that's a rarity, January is usually the colder month too I would say so I hope it'll be a milder January if we have a cold December.

Tonight is meant to be -3° again.

AndrewGloubermanisaperv · 13/12/2022 15:59

-5 just outside Glasgow

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/12/2022 16:01

0 degrees here in West Wilts
Feels warm compared to yesterday as no wind chill factor today

Choobyscoopy · 13/12/2022 16:25

-22 🥶🥶 But im not in UK obviously

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/12/2022 17:44

@psychomath most houses where I live are timber built, not brick. They are well insulated. We have double glazing, not triple. Most houses use the forced air system. We don’t have radiators.

We’re lucky to have an east/west aspect house, so our kitchen is sunny in the morning (once the sun rises!) and the living room is sunny in the afternoon.
This time of year the heating is on frequently, and we will put the gas fire on in the evenings if it is super cold outside.

Blocked · 13/12/2022 17:48

0°c and it feels quite balmy compared to the last few days Xmas Grin

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/12/2022 17:50

1C in SW London but no wind so feels positively mild after the last few days.

shard5 · 13/12/2022 18:04

I'm in the north west, Bolton. Temperature is now -4 and looks to be staying around this temp until tomorrow evening.
We had a bit of snow on Saturday which has frozen into ice in all the streets except for main Rds and pavements. It's pretty much hovered between 0 and -4 since then

TeaAndTattoos · 13/12/2022 18:07

-1 here in Liverpool but it’s set to get as low as -3 today. It feels really cold for me but that could be because we have no heating and we are relying on an oil radiator, blankets and layers of clothing.

CharityShopChic · 13/12/2022 18:11

It has not been above -5 in Glasgow all day. We have not have a cold snap like this for some years.
