Drive thru Mcds on Christmas Day

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 21:59

It would be bad to do this…wouldn’t it..?

We live abroad and aren’t back to the U.K. to family this year, quite happy to be at home (Dh, Dd, 4 and dog)
Not really fussed about Christmas dinner, we don’t love it that much.
How bad would it be to get a drive through McDonald’s and eat it at the beach? 🙈We’d still have lovely buffet type favourite foods for Xmas Eve, plus a nice breakfast and all our favourite chocs & cheese & biscuits…we just wouldn’t have the main meal 😬I feel like if we did, we’d have to keep it secret and not tell our families, who would be outraged 🤣

Do whatever you want on Christmas Day, why would it be ‘bad’? And why care what other people think?

LargeglassofRosePlease · 10/12/2022 22:02

Bugger all to do with anyone else what you do.
You fill your boots.

Its your Christmas dinner- not mine.

coldec · 10/12/2022 22:03

You are adults, you don't have to keep your dinner secret, equally i don't know why you feel you would have to tell anyone about it.

MyKidsAreKnobsInDecember · 10/12/2022 22:04

First I read it wrong and though you said you are back to the UK, and I wondered if UK mcdonalds are open on Christmas Day, and why you thought eating on a British beach in December would be anything but cold and miserable. Then I realised you aren't back, and assuming your beach isn't fucking freezing, there isn't a problem with your plan.

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 22:05

I mean just if they asked..my mum will probably ask if I’m doing Turkey or beef etc..it just feels so wrong, like you can’t not have a Christmas dinner 😬

NoelNoNoel · 10/12/2022 22:05

If you like cold McDonalds then it’s a good plan.

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 22:06

@MyKidsAreKnobsInDecember (Great username 😂) I’m hoping it is open on Xmas day..perhaps it’s not, oh bollocks

'Beef' this year mum, maybe some chicken too Smile

3luckystars · 10/12/2022 22:06

Is it open?

if it is then you are not the only ones doing it.

Just say turkey because you will probably have some in your buffet anyway. You are too old to care about what your mum thinks of your food choices!

WaddleAway · 10/12/2022 22:06

We’ve never had a ‘Christmas dinner’. Never had McDonald’s on Christmas Day as I don’t like it, but we just cook whatever we fancy on that day. Don’t think anyone has ever judged us for it!

SavingKitten · 10/12/2022 22:07

Actually saying beef makes more sense because of the burgers 🤦‍♀️

thelobsterquadrille · 10/12/2022 22:08

Most will be shut on Christmas Day unless at services or similar so you may want to check.

Baconsprouts · 10/12/2022 22:08

Being somewhere warm at Christmas (assuming from the beach reference) throws all Christmas norms out the window - so go for it!

Abraxan · 10/12/2022 22:08

Go for it.

It's the one day we do what we want and ignore so called tradition when it comes to food.

We go out for a curry with friends. Last couple of years Family have joined us and really enjoyed it!

FourChimneys · 10/12/2022 22:08

We had spaghetti hoops on toast once. Partly for convenience as we had other things happening but also because the DC would reliably eat it.

The sky didn't fall in. Neither will it if you go to Macdonalds. Who could possibly care what someone else eats on any given day?

You have experience of McDonald’s in multiple countries to make this assessment? Or did you not bother to read the fact the OP isn’t in the UK

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 22:20

Can’t seem to get the info but have a feeling it must be closed on Christmas Day..surely?!
Ahh there goes that plan! Now what to have 🤷🏻‍♀️

Even In the UK quite a few are open Christmas Day, you might be able to find one wherever you are

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 22:31

@SavingKitten Possibly…it depends on the weather tbh, not hot this time of year, but might be sunny and ok…that could work 🤔

RamblingEclectic · 10/12/2022 22:39

If it's open will depend on area, though even in the UK we've found the number of takeaways open on the 25th growing each year so it wouldn't surprise if it is open if you're not in a very devout area. We get takeaway each year, we've had a few rude people who think it's 'sad' to have pizza on Christmas, but it works for us.

Penaltyshootoutfan · 10/12/2022 22:42

We live don main land Europe for several years. And I can assure everyone this is a low end as it would be in the uk, having a maccy d’s for crimbo dinner. No one would think as it’s not uk it’s in some way less low end.

but if it makes you all happy, crack on.

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 22:45

What on earth does ‘low end’ mean? 😂.
People can eat what they want, when they want. If they want to eat McDonald’s on the beach on Christmas Day then what’s the problem? It doesn’t appeal to me, but that’s fine. Stuffing my face with Turkey then snoozing all afternoon in front on the TV doesn’t appeal to me either, but apparently lots of people do that 🤷🏻‍♀️
