to think Elon Musk is shining direct sunlight on a very grubby state of affairs?

Just staggered at what's coming out tbh. When he first bought Twitter there were several lengthy threads on here lamenting that Twitter would soon move to the Right and be full of hate. Now it appears that no one was bothering to work on child protection, child sexual abuse and exploitation routinely unaddressed, and Twitter employees were working directly with the FBI and government to censor stories some which arguably had direct impacts on how people would vote. Are there any threads on here discussing what's coming out like there were screening about how horrific it was all going to be, because I can't see any?

Talking about J Corbyn, not Musk!

What is the Corbyn project? I feel like I am missing something here.

As a country we voted for Boris Johnson, a man who made what many perceived to be homphobic, islamaphbic and racist comments.

I say "many perceived" because I agree with some interpretations of his bigotry but not others. The point is politicians using racism and hatred is, sadly not new. The way you are speaking implies there is something more sinister behind Corbyns anti-semitism. Is that the case? Or is the emotive language because his brand of bigotry effected you were as other politicians was targetted at other groups?

I was quoting a pro-corbyn poster who used the phrase 'the corbyn project' previously on this thread.

I'm confused by the idea that you think there needs to be something more sinister behind Corbyns anti-semitism

is relentless dedicated hatred towards a minority group, serious enough for him to have the Labour whip permanently removed, not enough in itself?

Is the pain and fear and terror I've seen all around me, worsened by the blatant fact that some people either didn't care or actively supported it, not enough?

What do you mean by 'something more sinister '?

Ok, we’re all entitled to our opinions. FWIW I could not disagree more. The man is a proven anti semite and not fit for any office.

Thank you. X

I am happy to aknowledge this is your sincerely held view, and it is difficult to square the circle between what you think and what I do. I promise you though that I will always be willing to listen to what you have to say, and I think as long as people agree to engage with each other in a respectful manner, we can find a way forward.

I thought it was clear what I meant. Something more sinister than your average politicians use of racism/homophobia etc to further their cause.

I just find the Corbyn hysterics a bit disingenuous to be honest. I don't see how he is any less fit for office than Boris Johnson was (in this context) and I was wondering if there was something more specific about his intentions that makes his racism more significant than his opponents.

Dotellhimpike · 13/12/2022 09:30

Whether or not someone is fit for office is a matter for the electorate.

MechanicaHound · 13/12/2022 09:55

The idea any government appointed agency would act in an impartial way if given the power to regulate and oversee social media is naivety on an industrial scale.

I agree.

Yet that's what our government is bringing in with the Online Harms Bill, isn't it?

MechanicaHound · 13/12/2022 09:59

I too am baffled by posters accusing you of claiming special expertise or being a Musk cheerleader when you’ve done nothing of the sort, just opened a discussion. Weird

This! Very like Twitter behaviour in fact. Does Mumsnet have bots?

That will be why your response to all of the concrete examples and evidence of his racism I posted upthread was to ignore it,, taunt me, and ask if you could b hide my posts (ie bullying).

Or perhaps the difference is that I'm Jewish and this poster has not said that they are, and therefore you treat them with a modicum of respect, while you treat Jews like shit on your shoe.

SleeplessInEngland · 13/12/2022 10:01

It's a non-story. Twitter's lack of effective moderation has been talked about for years. And guess what, Musk isn't going to be any better at it. Because, surprisingly, it's really hard to moderate billions of tweets a day.

You think Jewish people speaking about being the targets of a vicious campaign of antisemitism are being 'hysterical' and 'disingenuous'?

Wow.

Well, thanks for saying it so clearly, I guess.

Micsays · 13/12/2022 10:25

im no fan of Oligarchs, but a few days in he had already closed a number of accounts relating to child trafficking. Even people who don’t like Musk but work in this area acknowledge he’s done more already than Dorsey…www.newsweek.com/while-blue-checks-whine-about-extremism-elon-musk-protecting-sexually-exploited-children-opinion-1761383

But time will tell. Word is he wants Twitter to be the user friendly interface for blockchain/bitcoin, anyway. WhAT FTX wished it could be. So I think he has his sights set much much fighter than being the town cryer..he wants be the world’s banker

"Or is the emotive language because his brand of bigotry"

Jeremy Corbyn is one of the nicest, kindest, most decent, anti racist, anti bigotry politcians this country has ever produced. To label him a bigot is ridiculous.

I don’t know how you reached this conclusion as it seems so off base, but I also think it’s a bit dismissive of people who were impacted, when they are saying why it’s not the case.

Corbyn was and is a kind and decent man, I will never stop saying this, and I wont be browbeaten or emotionally blackmailed either.

Ah so does that take into account the appalling antisemites he promotes, shares platforms with and calls his friends? The five years of abuse online (in his name) to Jews which he refused call out? That's not to mention the numerous microaggressions towards British Jews. Cool, cool.

That horseshoe isn't going to join itself so crack on love!!

And to @Changeyncchange Minimsing or downplaying people's experiences of racism and antisemitism is racist in and of itself. Telling Jews their language is too 'emotive' when they describe antisemitism? Wow. Just disgusting.

No one is emotionally blackmailing you. They are telling you how they were impacted.

Well then.

Clearly the ehrc, the Labour Party, and the overwhelming majority of Jews in Britain,, as well as all of the actual words and actions he's taken, are wrong then, because @Dotellhimpike has met him and thinks he's lovely.

Good to know none of the reality or the facts matter.

I didn't start posting in this thread to get ina fight about Corbyn

Antisemitism is abhorrent and absolutely should be called loudly, often and in damning terms.

I wrote a much longer post originally explaining my reasoning but ultimately it doesn't matter but please believe what I wrote above is my sincerely held belief that I have voiced on many occasions.

What did you mean when you said that Jewish people pointing out Corbyn's antisemitism were being 'hysterical' and 'disingenous'?

No one put those words in your mouth.
