Can you actually be comfortable in stilettos ?

I absolutely love stilettos / heels. I think they look so elegant. I have a few pairs myself, but it just hurts so much. Even after a short time of wearing them, I am in absolute agony.

I've tried gel pads and that kind of stuff, but I can't make it work. It ruins any occasion I wear them.

Does anyone have any tips ? Or is it excruciating for everyone ?

I have exactly one pair of comfortable stiletto is heels. amazingly from ASOS but they've got the slight larger bases at the heel in the style of Amina Muaddi. Life changers, gutted i dint get a pair in every colour when i saw them :(

Other than that, They're all awfully uncomfortable and impossible unless sat down 90% of the time.

Thesenderofthiscard · 07/12/2022 22:03

Wear shoes you can walk in. It’s bloody ridiculous that women are still wearing shoes they can hardly stand or walk or dance in.
what’s the point!?
Can you imagine men doing this??

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 07/12/2022 22:03

I impressed myself (and DP) by walking 30 mins in a pair of 3.5inch stilleto boots the other night as not one cab to be had from the city home. They were new too and I have only worn them one time before. They cost 60quid in shoe rack so not exactly high end.

I never find high heels comfy, ever!

Risslan · 07/12/2022 22:09

I've had a few pairs of very expensive stilettos and they were very comfortable (for what they were). Apparently they're more carefully designed and constructed to ensure your centre of balance is over the centre of the heel, some have the heel and sole as continuous piece of metal so it balances itself, etc.

You could go and try some outrageously expensive pairs then watch out on ebay.

I think they look lovely but wouldn't dream of wearing them any more, so impractical and really I'm not comfortable that such things are normalised for women.

takealettermsjones · 07/12/2022 22:09

I have had comfortable ones and terrible ones. I think your comfort is always going to be mostly dictated by how often you wear them and have practice walking in them. Having said that, making sure you buy ones with decent soles, adequate straps (please lord no slingbacks or backless ones!) and that actually fit your feet. By that I mean not everyone has the foot shape for pointed toes, for example.

WeWereInParis · 07/12/2022 22:11

Yes, I've had very comfortable ones before. I wouldn't wear uncomfortable shoes.

wannarunfromitall · 07/12/2022 22:11

M and S do the comfiest ones ever. Proper high, glam and pointy and yet completely comfortable. £29.50 iirc

pictish · 07/12/2022 22:13

I don’t think you can, no.
I won’t entertain them. Nothing is worth that. So unnatural, no wonder our poor feet protest.

Omgmykidsneversleep · 07/12/2022 22:19

I think they were designed by men who hate women 😂we can't walk in them so end up using them for bedroom antics to satisfy men.

I do a good hobble in stilettos.

Slightly off topic but my son as a toddler once put my heels on (like kids do) and I had to scrape my jaw off the floor when he shimmied confidently and effortlessly in them across the landing. It defied the laws of physics.

I told him about it (he'd asked about things he did as a tot) and he laughed and said ok mum never tell me that again 😂

tillyandmilly · 07/12/2022 22:23

Kitten heels still look elegant and comfortable - i feel really sorry for women teetering around in stilettos ! Why do they do it to their poor feet! I have never worn them

JustLyra · 07/12/2022 22:25

I think as soon as you put a pair of heels on you can tell if they’re going to be comfy or not.

once I found the brands that fitted my feet comfortably I stuck with them and I firmly believe that’s why I always found them comfortable.

you need to work out what ones work for your feet.

Annabel073 · 07/12/2022 22:29

I have quite a few pairs that are very comfortable to wear all day. I always buy good quality shoes that fit well and don't have any problems walking or running in them and never have any foot problems. I would never wear uncomfortable shoes.

They don't. Once you stop wearing heels you see how silly they look.

SnapCrackleandExplode · 07/12/2022 22:31

It's mad because when I was younger (25-30) I could wear heels to work all day and only have aching feet just before I got home around 6pm.
Now (aged 41)I cannot walked from the hallway to the mirror without screaming in pain lol.

No more heels for me

escapingthecity · 07/12/2022 22:32

They are torture devices designed to render women weak. You cannot run in them. They cripple you. Flats all the way!

Ikeameatballs · 07/12/2022 22:33

I have had a few pairs and wore them until they fell apart but it’s rare to find comfy ones! Best pair I had had a thin platform sole, peep toe and ankle strap. I loved them!

MaraScottie · 07/12/2022 22:34

No.

I actually think heels look very dated now - find yourself a nice pair of flats and enjoy your nights out PAIN FREE!

Mydogatemypurse · 07/12/2022 22:37

Next forever comfort and ibuprofen gel on feet b4 going out. Walking on air.

CraigDavid · 07/12/2022 22:38

My comfiest high heels are all from M&S or chie mihara. I only wear them once in a blue moon these days though!

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 07/12/2022 22:42

Oh and the heels I mentioned above I have had on my feet since 8am this morning. Drove 3 hours in them, worked and walked around the office and up and down stairs in them and did a full grocery shop in them :)

Lillygolightly · 07/12/2022 23:01

I once found this little shoe company online, they made shoes for professional (ahem exotic dancers) but they also had a range that were completely normal respectable looking office type shoes but with all the good stuff they put in dancers shoes. I got a plain black pair with an invisible platform and completely cushioned sole. They were so comfy I literally wore them to death. When I wanted a new pair they company had gone and I now totally regret not buying more at the time.

PlinkPlonkFizz · 07/12/2022 23:03

My manager wears them and I suspect she feels she looks very elegant as she has a certain swishing catwalk walk. She just looks try too hard now after Covid. 😂

QS90 · 07/12/2022 23:03

I heard if you wear them all the time, your calf muscles shorten to compensate. This makes them comfier to wear, as your physiology has adapted to them, but then you find flats uncomfortable.
