There is a baby names topic

Both nice! I love Gabriella and considered it for DD but do not love Gabby/Gabs which it might get shortened to.

FestiveFruitloop · 07/12/2022 16:32

I think a Sofia would go through life with everyone misspelling it as Sophia...

This, but I like both equally.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 07/12/2022 16:32

Gabriella has more style and is more versatile for whatever personality the owner of the name turns out to have. Sofia is inherently 'gentle' sounding to me so conjures up more preconceptions somehow. Gabriella is also feminine but less laden with any particular vibe.
That's just me.

mathanxiety · 07/12/2022 16:33

Do you like the nickname Gabby?

If not, choose Sofia.

BatshitBanshee · 07/12/2022 16:34

I like both but the nickname "sof/Soph" makes me wince so on that basis - Gabriella.

Lapland123 · 07/12/2022 16:35

Love both, fabulous names - if I had another daughter I’d call her one of these, or maybe both!

3totheright4totheleft · 07/12/2022 16:36

Gabriella. I love it and wish I'd thought of it but DD hates it so perhaps just as well!

Edinlassy · 07/12/2022 16:36

Gabriella x

DunkingMyDonuts · 07/12/2022 16:37

Gabriella

Annonymiss123 · 07/12/2022 16:37

Both names are beautiful.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 07/12/2022 16:39

Sophie /Sophie are a bit wet. Gabriella is more feisty!.
My ddog is Gabriella and certainly feisty!

Wagsandclaws · 07/12/2022 16:42

I have a Sofia, she is 30 now. It's a beautiful name that suits all ages.

It does get shortened to Sof though, she also has to spell it constantly. I just preferred that spelling.

Blueysparentsputmetoshame · 07/12/2022 17:08

What sort of image do both names conguer up? Are they common at all? What are girls with those names you know like?

Iamclearlyamug · 07/12/2022 17:10

My DDs best friend is Sofia and she's a lovely girl. But it's now a hugely popular name (at least round here) so I'd go with Gabriella, but I'd shorten to Bri as I dislike Gabby 🤷‍♀️

TeenyTomTilly · 07/12/2022 17:11

Are you Italian?

Blueysparentsputmetoshame · 07/12/2022 17:12

@TeenyTomTilly No….

Gabriella. My 15 year old niece is Gabriella and her nn is Gigi.

She's not now, nor has she ever been Gabby.

SlashBeef · 07/12/2022 17:16

Love Gabriella. The Gabriella in our family doesn't get called Gaby for short.

Also we're not Italian.. but we also have Scottish and Greek names in our family and we're not those nationalities either..

Rauha · 07/12/2022 17:17

Gabriella

Taillighttoobright · 07/12/2022 17:21

They conjure up images of sleek young Audrey Hepburn types. English would be their third or forth language and they wouldn’t look out of place as an educated, erudite James Bond love interest. Love them both - but might find them an odd choice if for a girl from inner city Ipswich!

AdaColeman · 07/12/2022 17:22

Gabriella.

Both are lovely names but Sofia (and it variants) has been one of the most popular names for several years, so there will be a great many of them, so I would use Gabriella as it's a little less used.

ChillysWaterBottle · 07/12/2022 17:23

I really like both but Gabriella seems a lot less common (as in popular) to me so is a nice change.

Spanielsarepainless · 07/12/2022 17:23

Gabriella
