Am I being unreasonable in hating these articles by journalists who are just showing off their families?

articles like this just make me want to chunder. Does her family really want to be paraded about like this? Isn't it just a bit weird?

Sorry but there seem to be all these 30 something 40 something women journalists who can't do anything except write dull lightweight pieces of family journalistic bragging.
Yuck.

Hope to god "Living with Teenagers" is made up. Otherwise they are bound to get even more FXXXd up than they already seem.

rebelmum1 · 01/02/2008 14:40

excellent love the t-shirt can include Telegraph Weekend in that too

Moomin · 01/02/2008 14:40

IN that link, half way down on the right - that cover about 'I'm 47 and self-obsessed and aren't you too?'... thats' not...[shudder] Crista de Souza is it? [vom]

MrsMattie · 01/02/2008 14:42

Especially Jess!

I loathe her. I loathe the way she assumes that any 30-something woman other than her and her three mates in the Obs Woman office give a feck about Agnes Deyn or would ever be seen dead wearing day glo leg warmers or whatever the 'hot look' is. And that Alexis Petridis! Didn't he used to be a 'cool' music hack? Why is he now pretending to give a shit about organic linen tunics and male grooming?

ipanemagirl · 01/02/2008 14:42

I wouldn't mind these awful filler articles if the writers weren't snooty.
To be honest it's the snootiness that I hate most! La Millard is HRH of that condescending style.

"Oh you slightly smelly hoi poloi! If you could only imagine the anguish and trouble I have over my Paris apartment! It's unfeasiblly distressing and I am driven to sobs into my capacious decolletage!"

It's like when Prince Andrew grizzles about the press! Oh mercy may we be more kind to Andy! Give him the royal flight for that urgent game of golf!

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:44

am v tempted by the t-shirt (if only it weren't pink)

Spockster · 01/02/2008 14:45

Chortle @ Lennygrrl

Qu for fashion editors: Why does "high street fashion" always mean Whistles, Nicole Farhi etc? Not on my high street it ain't. What about M&S, Next, Primark, Tu at Sainsbury's?

Moomin · 01/02/2008 14:45

The only one I enjoy reading is Shane Watson - she has no kids but has just got married. Wonder if she'll go crap if she has kids and starts writing about them?

Tamum · 01/02/2008 14:49

It is possible to write entertainingly about ones own family- I used to like John Diamond's columns about his children before he started writing about his illness (I liked them afterwards too, obviously)

Spockster · 01/02/2008 14:49

Probably; let's face it, most first time parents are obsessed with their pregancies/offspring, but glady most of us don't have the opportunity to bore the world at large about them. It's embarassing enough to think about how we were with family/friends/workmates, just imagine having hard copy to look back on and cringe, years later? (MI excepted, of course).

branflake81 · 01/02/2008 14:50

I'm so glad I am not the only one who hates Observer Woman...it's just filled with rubbishy articles about lipstick. Is that what they think we are into?

I think the living with teenagers column is probably true. Sadly....

And don't get me started on Zoe whatserface. I used to quite like her til she had her baby and then wrote an exceedingly dull column about him.

Tamum · 01/02/2008 14:51

Actually the family column I always loved was Julie Myerson's in the Independent. She wrote so well and it was often moving and funny at the same time

AllFallDown · 01/02/2008 14:55

It doesn't really matter that everyone seems to hate Living with Teenagers (and lots of people I know in RL do, too). Why not? Because you're all reading it. That makes it a success.

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:56

not me

scampadoodle · 01/02/2008 14:59

Effie: Jess C-M had her kid at DSs nursery a couple of years ago. We all went on a seaside trip together. Her legs are fabulous & she obviously thought so too because she was wearing a very short skirt. Whereas if, like me, you really do have tree-trunk legs, you live in trousers. I read that too & was

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 15:00

it's the ooh yes, I'm normal, I have chunky legs that gets me...

donnie · 01/02/2008 15:01

someone pass them the crack pipe FGS.

SugarSkyHigh · 01/02/2008 15:04

I am so sick to death of india knight now - I used to quite like her in the news review but they all get so above themselves and end up ALL OVER the place - so boring! And the ultimate over-exposed up themselves example of this is the revolting AA Gill. I wish he'd just go and have it off with j. clarkson and get it over with

scampadoodle · 01/02/2008 15:09

Yes Effie, it's another version of the supermodel saying "I looked like a duck when I was at school; I was so ugly I had no friends" Oh, piss off...

[That reminds me - I was reading an interview with someone who is famous for being skinny (bugger, can't remember who, now) & the writer believes them when they say they're only having a light lunch "'cause I had a HUGE breakfast". Yeah right]

I quite like the Alexis Petridis column though as he sends himself & men's fashion up a bit. & often looks a complete prannie in the photo.
