Am I being unreasonable in hating these articles by journalists who are just showing off their families?

articles like this just make me want to chunder. Does her family really want to be paraded about like this? Isn't it just a bit weird?

Sorry but there seem to be all these 30 something 40 something women journalists who can't do anything except write dull lightweight pieces of family journalistic bragging.
Yuck.

Let's not forget, many of the most well known journalists have plenty of choice over what they write about. They pitch a lot of the ideas, themselves.

(Still feeling ever so sorry for Miles and Joey, or whatever they're bloody well called)

scampadoodle · 01/02/2008 14:31

Oh well, blame the editors. Or don't read it. Or both. I agree it's lazy but it's not as though they're running a paedophile ring, is it?

But I've got to agree with UniversallyChallenged re Normandie Keith. Makes me vom. (But I defend her right to write it! Scampadoodle says hurriedly).

& don't get me started on Liz Jones...

MrsMattie · 01/02/2008 14:32

Can we talk about Obs Woman for a second? Can we talk about what fantastically absorbent arse wipes its pages make? Can we...?

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:33

true we should not exempt smug men writing about their families from the slap-fest

MrsMattie · 01/02/2008 14:33

Liz Jones ....NOooooooooo (slits wrists)

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 01/02/2008 14:34

Living with teenagers makes me so depressed. Two of the three children appear to be basically nice teenagers who have never been given any ground rules about how to behave. The third one is in a very worrying state. Whenever I read it I pray that she is actually making it up, because otherwise her gutlessness and her husband's unsupportiveness are about to destroy that child's life.

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:34

I don't read Wumman becasue I get concerned about my blood pressure...

but I will say such a bad idea on so so many levels

Moomin · 01/02/2008 14:34

oh and while we're on the subject of Millard... what's with those photos of her in the Home section??? There used to be her tedious property column which I never read but I went to, to look at how tenuous the article and accompanying photo could be (e.g. article about Problem Tenants along with a photo of Dr.Who being attached by darleks - problems and Tennants - geddit?)
Anyway, that was bad enough but now the column are accompanied by photos of her in some kind of 'sexy' get-up, e.g. in a French maid's outfit!! or naked on a chaise!!! WTF's that all about?

Spockster · 01/02/2008 14:35

Why does even the Obsrever think that all women (wimmin?) want to read about is (outrageously expensive) fashion, slebs and make-up?

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 01/02/2008 14:35

Observer Woman is this where 100 years of feminism has got the fucking Guardian Media Group. No, I'm sorry, I can't talk about it, I need to go and throw myself under a horse.

MyEye · 01/02/2008 14:35

I can't see any egs of bragging. The homemade cake, for instance, has been made by the knitting instructors

but yes if the mere mention of 'giles' and 'barnaby' gets you going, then there's rocket fuel here

ipanemagirl · 01/02/2008 14:35

oh heavens do put it away

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:35

thankfully I have no idea what you are talking about

MrsMattie · 01/02/2008 14:36

Can I just add, for the record, that I unapologetically hate all fashion 'journalists' with a passion? (breathes, stretches, relaxes)

Iota · 01/02/2008 14:36

ooohh me too

is it too late to say I loathe those terrible husband and wife non-articles by the Millards.

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:37

ngggggg

UnquietDad · 01/02/2008 14:37

If you hate Observer Wimmin you must look here

Spockster · 01/02/2008 14:37

EVEN Jess Cartner-Morley?????

Iota · 01/02/2008 14:38

and I loathe that Dad Rules crap as well, Moomin

CatIsSleepy · 01/02/2008 14:38

the more I think about it the more I think the Teenagers thing must be made up

why would you voluntarily expose all these details of your inept parenting and your children's awful behaviour?

but then why would you make it up and have some people believe it was true??

EffiePerine · 01/02/2008 14:38

fashion journalists - oh yes, inadvertedly read one bemoaning her 'tree trunk' legs with size 10 pic helpfully attached. At least she writes in coherent sentences (pot, kettle but I don't get paid for it )

choccypig · 01/02/2008 14:39

I so so agree with the OP. It's just getting paid for writing a bit of a diary... and the worst is, they constantly go on about being working parents. I know Proper writers are working, but all this Me, me, me chit-chat ? You could just as well demand to be paid for writing on MN..now there's an idea, I'd be on 40% tax for the time I am wasting spending lately.
