Am I being unreasonable in hating these articles by journalists who are just showing off their families?

articles like this just make me want to chunder. Does her family really want to be paraded about like this? Isn't it just a bit weird?

Sorry but there seem to be all these 30 something 40 something women journalists who can't do anything except write dull lightweight pieces of family journalistic bragging.
Yuck.

some journalists believe the rest of us are interested in their lives, in particular the ones who write for the sunday paper magazines. It's another form of exhibitionism. Britney shows her breasts, some journos show their children. They fill up columns telling us about the antics of their 3 year-old over breakfast, as if it was remotely interesting for anyone other than the parents. No real content, no real discussion, no attempt at drawing any conclusion or casting some light on life's issues... No, it's just a "aren't my kids lovely and don't we look like a happy family?" Yawn @ them, really.
And even when they want to discuss a real topic, they have to drag their children into it, with some anecdote or other. Can they not talk about the world without having to bring their kids into it?? Where is their sense of privacy?

expatinscotland · 06/02/2008 12:11

'Where is their sense of privacy? '

Or creativity, for that matter? I mean, they're about as original as a box of rocks.

I couldn't agree more, Sweeny!

ipanemagirl · 06/02/2008 16:55

I think there should be an annual award in Journalism for writers who have not gushed about their children, been photographed with them, used them as the basis for Caring About the World, used them for a basis for Knowing What Really Matters, writers who have not once written "As A Parent" in an article.
It should be a huge glorious golden shiny award as big as a house.

Julie B doesn't mention her kid because she left him with his father years ago.

mrsruffallo · 06/02/2008 22:41

I thnk she has 2 boys who each live with their fathers

scampadoodle · 06/02/2008 22:44

I know it's sacrelidge [sp?] but I just find her writing tedious these days.

ipanemagirl · 07/02/2008 12:23

I don't know where she writes these days?

I have to admit (although I love her humour and the way she says the unsayable) I did get a little bored of her showing off about her big posh house in Brighton (or wherever) and her horny young boyfriend. But it's great when she attacks the local council!

TenaciousG. I would love to say are you kidding me, but a friend of mine used to be Donna Air's nanny and I think it was an eye opening experience.

I don't think this type of boring, lazy, self congratulatory journalism is confined to the Guardian. You should read the Telegraph (or maybe not). There is always some artcle by (or about) some smug woman who lives in a barn conversion with an aga and runs a multi-million pound business selling organic baby food and being a journalist at the same time as being the mother of six children (all at private school)and a wife to an investment banker or minor tory politician and employing a nanny to look after the six children. The main themes are: How well the business is doing; how hard it is being an employer; how wonderful the children are; how wonderful the aga is; how nice it is living in the country; how much better private education is etc etc. Boring boring boring.

expatinscotland · 10/02/2008 20:21

Amen, kneppa!

It's all just one great big circle jerk amongst themselves and the worst of it isn't that it's dull - although it's that, too - it's that it's unoriginal and requires the brain power of a hamster.

TG, my favourite bit of that article was the revelation that Meg Mathews is an "interior designer"? Who in the hell would allow her anywhere near their interiors? If you're interested, I met her once - she is about 4'6" and looks like a miniature builder in drag.

expatinscotland · 10/02/2008 20:45

Is Meg Matthews still 36?

She's been 36 for about as long as Patsy Kensit's been 39 (did you see her on The One Show last week? So botoxed she could barely move her eyes at all) and Sadie Frost has been 40.

scottishmummy · 10/02/2008 21:06

LOL- sadie, patsy, meg sad boozey plastic facedplastic titted twinkies who habitually furtle ole has-been's...and then secure a massive divorce settlement/house/media deal/blah blah bag into the process

patsy is classy twinky she furtled with Ally McCoist whilst his child was in yorkhill RHSC with leukemia

patsy wikipedia

Bluestocking · 10/02/2008 21:09

Blimey, SM, don't sit on the fence - tell us what you really think!

Judy1234 · 10/02/2008 21:11

Doesn't annoy me in the slightest. It just fills the papers for these people and sometimes the articles are interesting. usually it makes you think - she can't make much money if she's just a journalist and having to parade her children like that. So may be for some of us it makes us feel superior/better!

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 10/02/2008 21:11

lol expat

i did some research into patsy once ( obviously a lull in my social life) and found a variation in her birthdate

pisses me off cos i am sure she used to be older than me and i am now older than her

same for catherine z-J

like 'she' eternal youth
