Partner brushing your teeth (lighthearted)

Please settle a debate between me and a friend. After decades of friendship she has just revealed that her husband sometimes brushes her teeth for her! She says she sometimes doesn't have the energy after looking after young kids all day and it's nice to have someone take care of you. I felt physically repulsed! The idea of someone being that close to me, cleaning my teeth, peering into my mouth - I'm shuddering just typing this. Each of us thinks the other is being odd so...

YABU - a partner brushing your teeth is the highest level of intimacy that can be achieved

YANBU - it's an obscene act that shouldn't be talked about in polite society

There's not a soul alive who cannot muster the energy to clean their fucking teeth FFS! Hmm Methinks your 'friend' is pulling your leg @AuntMarysPinny . If it IS true, that is as freaky as fuck...! Shock

On a slightly different note, I fucking HATE it when people come out of the bathroom, and walk around the house cleaning their teeth/with their toothbrush in their mouth. My cousin does this when I go to her house, DD used to do it, and DH does it occasionally. Angry

Really gets under my skin and I don't know why! Confused Like, you're cleaning your TEETH, get in the fucking BATHROOM! I can't look at DH on the occasions he does it. Daft I know, but it just jars me for some reason! 😩

@Youcunnyfunt

This is so bloody strange! 😂

I've got images of a poor lady with feet thudding and dragging up the stairs, slumped on the toilet seat, with head tilted back, messy hair straggling across her face, with her gob opened just wide enough for her husband to gently brush her teeth for her. Her arms, of course, are useless because she is so tired.
Absolutely hilarious. Too tired to brush your teeth! How bloody dramatic is she!

😂PMSL!

@Glassslapper

You can tell who on here doesn’t have a very loving relationship irl. Its sweet to do the basics for the one you love if they’re just not feeling it. I actually think it’s pathetic some on here are trying to call your friend names for wanting to be pampered a bit.

I thought 'youcunnyfunt's' comment was funny, but yours is hilarious - and farcical! 😂 If your partner doesn't clean your teeth, (like you're fucking 3 years old,) then you don't have a loving relationship????? LMFAO!!!! Grin You have a funny idea about what constitutes a 'loving relationship!' Does your other half wipe your arse too when you've had a dump? 😱😂

Mamette · 06/12/2022 21:45

Yeah no I’ll be brushing my own teeth thanks and you can do something else to help out like hang up the bastard bathmat for once in your life.

Pp who said they can see who doesn’t have a loving relationship- yoo-hoo over here!

No not really it’s loving enough but having him poke around my teeth would give me the absolute fury. I have a very specific dental hygiene routine which he wouldn’t have the bandwidth for.

My husband has done waaaaay more intimate things... way more!

Agreed!!

This made me giggle! 😂
I suppose I'd do it for my dp, but definitely wouldn't allow it to be done to me, I wouldn't find it relaxing or helpful, I'm ok doing my own 🤞

burgledinParis · 06/12/2022 22:18

This makes me think of a friend brushing my teeth in an attempt to coax her then 2 or 3 year old son (my godson) to let her brush his teeth one exhausted evening on holiday after he's had candy floss and holiday treats and was flat-out refusing to try on his own or let anyone brush his teeth . She did her best but honestly, never ever again - and I was sympathetic to his tantrum.
But hey, if it floats their boat and is a bit of couple time when she feels loved and cared for, why not?

All couples are different ... my ex used to get my phone out of my bag when I got home to put it on to charge and recharge the spare battery, and take my water bottle to wash and refill ( in the summer he even used to half fill it and freeze it over night so the water stayed cold the next day ) He'd then repack my work bag in the morning with my charger, phone and water.

A friend who stayed with us tried to convince me he was controlling and weird and unhealthy and only doing it to look at my phone .... it really wasn't... I'm just crap at remembering to charge my phone and the panic when I'm out and about without phone battery. And it was something so simple but made me feel so loved and taken care of.

Well, i mean, yeah. Most of us have had sex with our husbands too.

I don't think that's quite what the OP is getting at.

Unless you're thinking the teeth brushing is a form of foreplay for them? I don't think so. If she's too tired to brush her own teeth i doubt it's that.

TulipCat · 07/12/2022 05:12

The notion that having someone else brush your teeth is less fussy than doing it yourself because you're just soooo tired is hilarious. Surely if you are exhausted it's much less energy sapping to just do it yourself rather than faff about letting someone else poke about in your mouth?

@StollenAway update us with how it goes! Fingers crossed he doesn't post on dadsnet and get LTB...😂

Yeah as predicted it was really annoying. Not relaxing in the slightest!

mondaytosunday · 07/12/2022 11:48

Yuck.

@StollenAway you went above and beyond for mumsnet by enduring that. I award you a medal for your service (and I hope your marriage survives!) 🏅
