Spoke to them at 8:30 this morning about my sick son. Had a callback 3 hours later from a nurse who said we needed to speak to a doctor who would phone us. Heard absolutely nothing back since. 111 is no longer a functioning service is it?

I think difference locations have different experiences- when we called the other week for DD(4 years old) we were called back spoke to a nurse, sent to A+E with an appointment , checked over by doctor and sent home with antibiotics all within 2 hours of the first call.

Most recently, I had a callback after 20 hours. I was told this is normal, they are very busy. It does feel broken in comparison to my experience say 3/4 years ago.

They’re probably completely overwhelmed rather than non functioning. Non functioning implies there’s no staff whatsoever or they’re useless. That’s not true, although there’s nowhere near enough staff, the rest of the NHS. It’s flu season, there aren’t enough GP appointments, A&Es are packed out, parents are understandably more worried than ever about their children getting sick due to the high levels of strep throat and scarlet fever and the number of deaths, so are phoning them for advice in ever increasing numbers.

I'd call back if I’d not heard from them and was still concerned, if I was in your shoes.

@holdingoutforagptiltheendofthenight the trouble is though schools and nurseries won't allow them back to school without prescribed eye drops so unless it happens to coincide with school holidays you have no choice.

What?! DS’ school has no such policy! You don’t actually have to take them out for it (I just do because it’s responsible)
