You well know that skinny bitch has connotations of beauty, desirability etc. Fat bitch the exact opposite.

So you have never heard, or said the words "skinny bitch" in a derogatory way? Really?!

I have, and its usually said by someone who doesnt like or is jealous of said "skinny bitch" who actually isnt skinny at all but slimmer than the person who said it.

It's not just that comment though. It's countless comment about my body, physical weight, dress size, sex life(yes really?!) all because I'm smaller now. No one would ever have asked me those things when I was heavier. It's like they think there's a free pass now because only fat people can get offended about questions regarding their bodies?!

Spoodee · 04/12/2022 00:56

And I have heard skinny bitch in a negative way many times.

You’ve just proved my point…

Ffs this does annoy me, just eat a few chocolate bars and nice things if you are underweight. What an awful problem to have…

You are an absolute idiot.

You have no idea about this topic.

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/12/2022 00:58

And as a person upthread pointed out, skinny means underweight, unattractive, the exact opposite of attractive.

Sadly I think in these times of more people being overweight/obese than healthy, our view of "skinny" has been somewhat skewed. A healthy size ten is not skinny. Hell, a healthy size 6 is not skinny.....my 18 year old daughter is 5'1" is a size 6 (or age 13 clothes which she is happy with as they are cheaper) and not at all skinny, but yes she is slim.

At the end of the day, size 4/6 is attractive a desirable in society and for most people. Size 18/20 is considered unattractive. There is your difference. I maintain playing the smallest violin for all those skinnies out there…

How? Explain to me please exactly how I have proved your point?

Especially as, the vast majority of the times I have heard it said, was by bigger women to me when I was also very overweight, under the assumption I would also hate said "skinny bitch" based purely on the fact that I was fat.

DuplicateUserName · 04/12/2022 01:00

Annie232 · 04/12/2022 00:36

ok I get it.

I think it’s just really hard for a lot of people to have sympathy for people who are skinny and struggle to put on weight. After all skinny is more attractive and 2/3 of the adult population of the U.K. are overweight or obese.

I know if someone said to me to put on weight I would be thrilled! I’d also love to be called skinny!

🙄🙄🙄

Read the room mate.

I suggest you take your own body image issues elsewhere, preferably to a professional.

Slim people don't like to be called skinny or fat.

I'm a fat person and I hate being called fat but I'd give my eye teeth to be called skinny.

The reason people call you skinny is because you look good.
The reason people don't call me fat is because I look bad.
So they're not meaning to be rude, they're complimenting you.

you said the term skinny is used by someone who is jealous of ‘skinny person’. To be jealous they must have something desirable… ie skinniness

poefaced · 04/12/2022 01:03

Yanbu, skinny is rude (i say this as a size 14).

Call her fat, see how she likes it.

What a bizarre view.

You can stick your tiny violin where the sun don't shine. I spent my whole adult life being obese and I was just as beautiful then as I am now. And not wanting people to comment on my body is completely valid.

I also have anorexia, if you want my skinny you need to take the anorexia as well.....its a BOGOF.

monsteramunch · 04/12/2022 01:05

"Can you not call me skinny please, it makes me uncomfortable."

Or if you have kids I would go with what would be an honest statement from me:

"Can you not comment on my weight please, we don't want the kids to pick up on commenting on other people's weight or give them any reason to self conscious about their own."

I would love to say “You’re just morbidly obese”… but I don’t when I keep hearing about my supposed “Anorexia” from the MIL I haven’t seen or spoken to for over six years. (Other very valid reasons.) I have lost about 65kgs sticking to a strict keto diet and she’s not impressed that I have managed this.

Because you have proved that her obesity is not because she cant but because she cant be arsed.

She has probably spent years convincing herself that her weight is down to her genes, her "thyroid problems" (imagined), lack of time.....when it reality its down to the biscuititis. Then you went and made an effort and lost weight. "Call me out without telling me you are calling me out" Grin

I don't think people stop to think. Comments on weight can be so upsetting. My sister is naturally very slim and she is trying to gain weight via the gym. Someone calling her skinny would devastate her.

Mamaneedsadrink · 04/12/2022 01:23

Could she mean it in a concerned way? My Dad says that to me meaning he's worried I'm not eating enough. Also when I've put on weight he tells me I'm fat. Can't win. Some people have no tact (or are completely unaware they're being rude). I'd just ignore if you can or else maybe say I'm actually in a healthy weight range thank you and leave it at that.

Honeyroar · 04/12/2022 01:23

Annie232 · 04/12/2022 00:15

Sorry can’t relate. Most people struggle to maintain a healthy weight/ be skinny, have to exercise regularly and watch what they eat. Seriously, can you not just have a few weeks on the sofa and work your way through some chocolate bars, pizza or crisps?

Open your mind a bit! Some people struggle to put on. My husband was very ill and had emergency operations. The hospital said he could go home when he gained 3 stones. He still hasn’t a decade later! They gave up and sent him home after 1.5 stones. And it’s not as wonderful as us portly folk imagine being underweight. He gets cold easily and will probably struggle more when older.
