The class system in the UK needs a revolution

So, lots of things have had me pondering this. I studied Sociology in my first degree. One thing that always caught my attention was the statistics that were stacked against anyone trying to ‘climb’ social classes. Everything is stacked against you.

I find it so hard to understand why single mothers are constantly painted as scroungers and the enemy of the state, when the majority work and just are completely failed by the misogynistic, not fit for purpose, CMS system that basically leaves them bringing up their children with all the financial, emotional and logistical responsibilities, that the fathers don’t have… and no one makes them. There’s so many other things that boil my blood, like blaming addicts and low income families, disability’s and everyone else at the ‘bottom of the pile’ to justify why resources shouldn’t go to them.

I dip in and out of this forum but I’m drawn to it because time and time again I hear the ‘middle class’ objectives and excuses.

It’s like Mancock being in the jungle. As long as I maintain my upper class charm while eating a kangaroo penis, all is good with the world, ignore everything that went on before… we don’t talk about that. Slap on the back, and on your way 🫡.

Am I unreasonable to think there needs to be a ‘levelling up’? Mancock is private educated with the world at his feet, IF we actually had a system where a ‘level up’ politician- was even possible, single mother, who was from a working class background was in the same position as him… would she have been redeemed in the same way?

I think not… time for a revolution? 🤔

Is he worried about paying his bills, feeding his children, heating his home, having enough diesel/petrol to get to work? He’s upper class in this shit show of a country

Wait a minute. You did a degree in sociology and you think paying your heating bill and feeding your children is the definition of upper class? Shows what a waste of paper a sociology degree is if that's what you learned.

It’s so relevant… it’s about entitlement and whatever I say is above what you say even though I’m a slimey lying fuckwit with no morals or integrity, I’m educated in a particular school within the UK and I’m a white or any other ethnic group male/ as long as I’m in with the ‘jobs for the boys’/ might let a few girls in for good measure, tally hoe, fuck democracy, we’re elite and you’re all peasants and we will do what the fuck we want whenever we want and we’ll be supported by every saddo trying to protect their little bit of Britain… uk class system in a nutshell… and quite a bit of mumsnet 🙄

Correct Marsha… correct ✅

The class system drives a lot of people to strive and work stupid hours so their kids can go to private school and perhaps get a taste of what the middle/ upper middle classes have.

UrsulaPandress · 30/11/2022 21:34

You sound quite cross.

Have you had a bad at work or something? You seem to have quite low self-esteem, calling yourself names like that.

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:36

That’s because I am 🙄

You can't really become "upper class" you have to be born into that class.
You can become middle class though, by working hard at school, getting a good education, university degree etc.

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:37

Oh Marsha

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:37

Exactly

ichundich · 30/11/2022 21:39

It needs to be done away with completely, not just revolutionised. But it won't happen as long as so many working class people either vote tory or don't vote at all.

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:40

Agreed. Perhaps my question should have been around how do we make the voting system fairer for ALL classes and include them in decisions made about them. Good point

I thought poor single mothers go to the top of the list for council housing and lots of benefits already.

Well, I guess that makes it all fair then, eh?

the study of social problems.

How very dare working class people vote Tory.

That’s isn’t true. A single mother will have to make her family homeless and spend time in temporary accommodation (which could be a crappy B&B) in order to get a council house.

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:52

I think it should be more centred around why? What led you to believe this was a good vote for you? Where did your ideas come from? How were you supported to make the right decisions for you and your family? Let’s give you ALL the information and tools to make a good and just decision for YOU.

🥱zzzzzzzzzzz

UrsulaPandress · 30/11/2022 21:53

Oh Lordy you’ll be suggesting a test before people are allowed a vote next.

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:54

You should really get to bed… weirdo

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 30/11/2022 21:54

Rude

Toastandavocado · 30/11/2022 21:55

A test in what? Not commenting a ridiculous comment on a thread before you’re allowed to vote? 🤔

Have you been on the lash?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/11/2022 21:57

I said to Dh today that this country needs an overhaul as big as the birth of the welfare state. Something revolutionary and egalitarian.

Not that it will happen under current government.
